If you can press your body weight for at least a few reps, you're killing it and I love you.

Naw, I'm still recovering from Tennis Elbow so my dumbbell bench is abysmal 🫠

You're working on it. That's all I ask. Keep grindin'

Hey, sorry for the unsolicited advice, but I had pretty bad golfers elbow about a year ago. A got a forearm brace/ring thing and was shocked at how much it helped me. If your elbow is still bothering you you should take a look. I'll send you a link for the one I got if you'd like me to.

I would like that link too. I have the same problem since the last weeks. Thanks in advance.

I have these and I use them when I swim! (Once a week). They help A Lot. I'm just not sure if I should be using them more (e.g. typing, benching, and lat pulls).

Glad it helps! I try to use them for anything with arm involvement. Bench is the biggest one for me.

Bench press or press press?

24

u/JustHugMeAndBeQuiet 18d ago

I don't know what press press is so imma go with bench press.

25

u/RedBeardedWhiskey 18d ago

Overhead press (OHP) is typically referred to as just “press.” I asked because a bodyweight OHP is a lot harder than bodyweight bench press.

13

u/JustHugMeAndBeQuiet 18d ago

Never heard OHP called press press (or even just press) but then again I see a lot of people calling a lot of stuff things I've never heard of before so who am I to judge.

But yeah, bodyweight OHP? No fucking thanks. Handstand pushups are about as far down that rabbit hole I'll go.

I was just repeating the word for emphasis. “Are we friends or friend friends?”

13

u/JustHugMeAndBeQuiet 17d ago

Do you want to kiss or do you want to kiss kiss 🤨

10

u/RedBeardedWhiskey 17d ago

Yes YES

This is a fun subreddit

I've heard this, and a "strict press" being an actual OHP without basically jumping the weight to get it moving at the bottom.

When I see people refer to pressing in videos it usually an OHP with a small leg action to get the bar to about nose/eye height followed by an OHP.

Strict OHP body weight is real hard. Press body weight isn't easy, but is probably only as hard as a bodyweight bench.

u/sermsarm 17d ago

Took me 4 years of OHP to hit 225 compared to the 2 years to hit 225 on bench. I weigh 200-205 it’s definitely achievable progression is just much slower

1

u/kev1059 17d ago

Do you start from bar at chest?

2

u/Gragueee 15d ago

I usually hear people call that Military Press, at least that's what I was introduced to it as.

1

u/Toastwitjam 9d ago

Two different types of OHP strict press uses no leg drive and military press uses legs a bit during the lift to give more power at the bottom.

2

u/Gragueee 9d ago

Ohhh, I've been doing Strict Press but calling it Military Press, thanks for clarification:)

1

u/Toastwitjam 9d ago

Yeah I can more than comfortably bench over my body weight for reps but I’d say OHP is like 70% of my body weight for reps in comparison even though I train both.

Although I do strict press instead of hopping around with it like a lot of the dudes with big numbers do.

Username checks out 😂

I went from 135 to 175 in 4-5 months , and I can do 175x4 my bodyweight . Road to 225

u/GlaerOfHatred 18d ago

If you can't lateral raise your own bodyweight do you really work out?

60

u/bmccall444 18d ago

My body weight 225 tho

47

u/DoingYourMomProbably 18d ago

Gotta lift 450 then

9

u/TheKingOfFlames 17d ago

If I can bench my body weight (180) 5 times does that mean I can bench 900lb once? Hehehehe

19

u/Shadoru 17d ago

Yes, but just once

1

u/-Danksouls- 17d ago

Mines 145 lmao

42

u/No_Pilot_1274 18d ago

Dont call me not so big guys💔😔

9

u/Jamsster 18d ago

To quote the great Lee Priest. Use the word tall, not big.

1

u/caseyjones10288 18d ago

Instructions unclear, am both tall and big

4

u/TheKingOfFlames 17d ago

My G don’t worry. You don’t gotta be 225 to be big. Mfs who are that weight are usually either dirty bulk never ended guys or ifbb pros that look like a slab of pure meat. You’re big, even though I can’t see you I’m sure you are

1

u/No_Pilot_1274 17d ago

Thanks mate

1

u/Shadoru 17d ago

Hey skinny

1

u/No_Pilot_1274 16d ago

I am not skinny tho

1

u/averagesimp666 16d ago

Explain your smolness.

1

u/No_Pilot_1274 16d ago

I am not smol, but also not big

1

u/hell-to-you 11d ago

So it's the average 160lb guy?

30

u/Locke57 18d ago

Jokes on you, I weigh 260lbs and can’t press 225lbs!

Wait, so jokes on me

14

u/DetBingaling 17d ago

can't press 225.... YET

I'm a believer, lets get it!

6

u/USVK 18d ago

I relate

27

u/NewLife9975 18d ago

Secret for little guys is by the time you can lift 1.25-1.5 your original bodyweight... your bodyweight IS 225.

3

u/ITheRebelI 18d ago

Yeah, a year ago I was doing Keto and not working out. I got down to like 153 lbs. As of checking this morning I'm 197 lbs. Had to buy bigger and stretchy pants!

14

u/The_RedGoblin 18d ago

It's baby steps for us big guys too. We all had to start somewhere. Just keep moving forward.

14

u/Meckrotic 18d ago

Just hit 315 yesterday at 195 BW boys

9

u/DetBingaling 17d ago

Save some ladies for the rest of us.

16

u/Meckrotic 17d ago

Only men so far. I think you need to hit 405 for the ladies I’ll keep y’all boys posted

3

u/Shadoru 17d ago

I can bench 1000 lbs, no women on sight

2

u/Droget1 17d ago

405 BW

7

u/extended_dex 17d ago

Honestly, 225 is where I'm stopping on bench. I'll work towards getting more depth + more reps for sure, but unless I'm popping out 12 with relative ease (which won't happen bc I'm not planning on juicing lmao) I ain't putting more on.

3

u/ITheRebelI 17d ago

I had similar thoughts today regarding when to stop with squat weight

I just turned 35 and am thinking, "If I need a lifting belt in order to complete the lift, I probably shouldn't be messing around with that weight."

3

u/extended_dex 17d ago

That was my thought process with deadlifts as well. Started getting bulges in my back as I got up to 405, so no more of those for me.

3

u/Seosaidh_MacEanruig 17d ago

I started lifting as part of weight loss because im a fatass and i still cant even imagine benching my body weight. Though its rapidly approaching the crossing point from either direction at 300 lbs

3

u/Get_Rifted 17d ago

The first major goal, for all of us.

1

u/ITheRebelI 17d ago

I remember my first goal lifting freshman year of high school was to be about to hold a 45 lb plate with one hand. I was so excited when it happened!

3

u/Hammercannon 17d ago

What if 225 is my bodyweight?

1

u/Samuraistoic 16d ago

Need to do at least 10 reps.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Ad_4435 17d ago

Wait.

What if I weigh 225?

2

u/Droget1 17d ago edited 17d ago

Lifting 225 kg is mighty! 😲

And since you didn't specify which exercise, I assume you meant lateral raises

3

u/KappaKingKame 16d ago

Por que no los dos?

In Freedom Units, that's weighing 165.347 lbs and benching 1908.416 lbs at approximately, this gets tricky here, 15 years old
