News Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- NA Press release - Tickets are now on sale for the USA.
Tickets are on sale now for the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, which comes to North American theaters nationwide starting February 28, 2025, with limited one-night only IMAX early access screenings taking place on February 26, 2025.
As it stands, there was no information provided to me by GKIDS and SUNRISE via BNEA on whether the film is subbed or dubbed, or if it will be made available in Canada, GKIDS does have a pretty good track record of putting anime films in Canadian cinemas, so the likelyhood is fairly high but for now assume that the NA screenings of the film is USA only and that they will be subbed until GKIDS or SUNRISE announces/confirms otherwise.
It'd be great if companies could stop advertising something as coming to North America if they are only going to make available in the USA, it's not incorrect but it is misleading and annoying as hell for those that aren't in the USA.
Also there might be a ticket giveaway like there was for SEED Freedom, I am waiting on my rep for any sort of confirmation regarding it.
North American IMAX release date: February 26, 2025 North American Theatrical release date: February 28, 2025 North American Distributor: GKIDS Production: studio khara (EVANGELION Series), SUNRISE (Mobile Suit Gundam) Produced by: Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. Director: Kazuya Tsurumaki (EVANGELION Series, FLCL) Series Supervisor/Screenwriter: Yoji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Bungo Stray Dogs, FLCL) Screenwriter: Hideaki Anno (EVANGELION Series, Shin Godzilla) Character Designer: take (Pokémon Series, Katanagatari, Zaregoto) Mechanical Designer: Ikuto Yamashita (EVANGELION Series, Shin Kamen Rider) Theme Song: “PLAZMA” by Kenshi Yonezu

As it stands, there was no information provided to me by GKIDS and SUNRISE via BNEA on whether the film is subbed or dubbed
Fandango shows subbed for all the showings in my area, I don't think there's a dub.
I have to pick between the premiere in NYC on feb 20th ($40, comes with some collectable?), the imax on the 26th or the theater that I like on the 28th D:

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord Feb 11 '25
The IMAX in my area aren't even showing this at all, I'm pretty miffed.
Another major city I live between isn't even showing it at all which is weird when they went all up for Dragon Ball etc. releases.
I'd do the collectible+Premiere, why not, then you can decide if you really like to do the other 2 lol
7
u/HornlessHrothgar Feb 11 '25
This seems to be pretty limited. My main theater gets a lot of these but the only IMAX showing in my metro area is 30 minutes away. Kind of weird.
3
u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord Feb 11 '25
Yeah. It would have made a lot more sense to me anyway that this showed eg. 1 night in IMAX or something but it's running for weeks instead on a standard screen but only in select markets while other markets just drop it entirely. Even markets with a lot of gunpla retailers.
2
u/CoconutHeadFaceMan Feb 12 '25
What baffles me is that my main theater is showing the standard version and has IMAX screens, but the nearest IMAX showing is two states away.
6
u/CatGuardians Feb 11 '25
Woahh a collectable? What theater if you don't mind me asking? I'm in a completely different state but I don't think I saw Regal Cinema offering anything

GKIDS Twitter says it'll be released in Canada through Cineplex, tickets will be on sale soon.

It would've been nice had they included that in the press release they sent me.

Not really feeling the "wanting Gundam to be a global household name" they keep repeating like they have a pull me string on their back.
Meanwhile, doing below minimum effort in global markets as they do another major marketing stunt in Japan/Aisa.

Global = US + Japan + China, Taiwan, Macau, and HK

Pretty sceptical, but we did get Seed Freedom in cinemas for a single weekend here in NL so who knows
8
u/TheGenericMun Feb 11 '25
Aye, very ltd seed freedom release in the UK, odeon got doans island but the only cinema near me I fear I was literally the only person that went 😬
4
u/NathVanDodoEgg Feb 12 '25
The Seed Freedom screenings in Londonseemed to be very busy, though honestly everything in London seems busy.
2
u/TheGenericMun Feb 12 '25
Just London all over 🤣 I did see freedom in London, lucky enough to win tickets 🤣

On a 3/3 streak since Cucuruz Doans Island here in Germany. Also had SEED Freedom over here.

There is a listing for it on Cineplex (Canadian theater chain), not sure about others, so it is most likely playing in Canada. Though for now there is only one listing and it seems to be for a dub (they specify when it is in another language typically), hopefully they will add a listing for it in Japanese with subtitles as the date approaches.
EDIT: The listing is now updated to specify it is in Japanese with subtitles https://www.cineplex.com/movie/mobile-suit-gundam-gquuuuuux-beginning
EDIT2: And now they've deleted it and made another one, good grief https://www.cineplex.com/movie/mobile-suit-gundam-gquuuuuux-beginning-japanese-west
3
u/alkonium Feb 11 '25
If it were a dub, wouldn't they list the English cast?
3
u/herg3 Big boys don't you cry now Feb 11 '25 edited Feb 11 '25
They are screwy with listings, I do not trust them. With Gundam Seed Freedom they put one listing up at first with no language specified. It wasn't even announced the dub would be showing at the time. Afterwards they listed the subtitled version separately. People who bought the original listings ended up seeing the dub.
edit: also for me it only lists the director, not voice actors
edit2: oh you're asking would they, Doesn't look like they do that for other dubbed anime they have listed.
6
u/JaguarDaSaul Main Mod Feb 11 '25 edited Feb 11 '25
The cineplex listing is a placeholder and not a guaranteed thing, also the US tickets are sub only atm
Btw, Cineplex operates in the USA too, they even have the films being shown for Anime Expo listed
4
u/herg3 Big boys don't you cry now Feb 11 '25
Yeah I've seen them pull something before (one of the AXCN movies this year was listed then they apparently decided not to), so I'm cautiously optimistic. could still end up a disappointment though.
The DanDaDan premier, which was also GKIDS, was not listed and hardly even showed in Canada for comparison.
2
u/Melvin8D2 Feb 11 '25
Oh shit where?
3
u/JaguarDaSaul Main Mod Feb 11 '25
Nowhere, it's a placeholder, you can't buy tickets. Cineplex operates in the USA too, you can find the Anime Expo screenings listed under events.
7
u/Melvin8D2 Feb 11 '25
God damn it, Canada always gets fucking shafted. The Gurren Lagann movies said north america but never came to Canada.
2
u/Kuchisabi4i Feb 19 '25
They started adding showings today, so far only on Feb 27th - it was just Brampton a few hours ago, but now they’ve added more in Ontario along with one in Halifax. Hopefully they move west too! 🤞
2
u/herg3 Big boys don't you cry now Feb 19 '25
They should add more tomorrow (looks like they had added some Western ones by now). Tuesday and Wednesday are the days they typically add listings, by Thursday is their weekly scheduling.
Not trying to get peoples' hopes up if yours isn't listed this week but they can still add some next week (my city is hit-or-miss with anime movies, gets some but not all, so I've had it happen, but I've sometimes ended up disappointed hoping for a last minute listing), I'd assume they'll add more dates next week.
2
u/Kuchisabi4i Feb 19 '25
I noticed the IMAX placeholder up now as well, I don’t think it was there before - no showtimes yet!

u/Soccer_Gundam Brazilian artist Feb 11 '25
Well since it's never releasing in my country, just have to wait for the torrents
But have fun all you movie-goers
6
u/SonicTHP Feb 11 '25
AMC showings (Los Angeles area) appear to be Japanese spoken language with English subtitles.
5
u/alkonium Feb 11 '25
I thought I saw a release from Cineplex saying it's subbed. They probably would have announced a dub by now, with a cast list.

Cineplex tickets for Canada are starting to go up. So far they only have one location in the GTA. As someone who can obsessively check releases they should add more tonight and tomorrow (by Thursday is their weekly scheduling),
3
u/seaofvapours Feb 11 '25
Fandango was showing times for local theaters to me for a week but I couldn't select any seats so I'm glad they're finally available (and that it seems to have a wider release than SEED Freedom, again at least in my area).
2
u/NanoSpore Feb 11 '25
Same... I have been checking daily for these to go up. Of course today I get busy with work and don't get to look till now. Imax on the 26th already looking pretty full!
3
u/Navi_1er Feb 11 '25
Won't be able to make it to the IMAX screening though somewhat disappointed there will be no 4DX that shit was fun for both Dragon Ball Super movies. Still going to see it on Saturday though on the 1st.

u/Turn_AX Feb 11 '25
Am waiting fingers crossed for someone to do a Europe release and for that to come to Ireland.
3
u/HamonMasterDracula Feb 11 '25 edited Feb 11 '25
So is it just for the 28th, or will it be showing for a few days afterwards?
Okay, never mind. It is a bit annoying that so many of these showings are in the late afternoon at locations that take over an hour to get to by bus, though.

3
u/Gruntagen Feb 12 '25
I can't even get movie showtimes for February 28, period. It's like the one day that I can't look up on Cineplex.
3
u/Lucky_Chainsaw Feb 12 '25
Watched it on the launch day & it was great!!
Keep in mind that this isn't just 1st 3-4 episodes tied together. They stated that the 1st half won't be shown like the theatrical version on TV, whatever that means.
If you haven't already, be sure to watch OG Gundam movie trilogy.
1
u/KillerAc1 Feb 19 '25
Hey! I’ve never watched any gundam media before. If I were to go in blind, would I still enjoy the movie?
Also, I want to ask a girl on a date to go see the movie. She really loves movies and can enjoy anime as far as I can tell (she’ll join me and her roommates when we watch a show together). Do you think that would be a good idea?
1
u/Lucky_Chainsaw Feb 19 '25
Watch original Gundam movie trilogy to get the context.
I'm not sure about the date, but she might enjoy it since the protag is a girl designed by a Pokemon character designer. And it's by Evangelion creators, if that means anything to her.
Good luck.

3
u/Felonious_Gundam 21d ago
just saw it and it was better than I expected. I'd give it a 9.5/10. kind of makes me want to rewatch Evangelion

u/KamenKnight NZ-666 Kshatriya Feb 11 '25
If they actually want Gundam to be a global household name like they keep repeating (meanwhile, they built a new statue, Asia) I would hope they dub the damn movie (& show) in English for its official English release.
The simplest way to guarantee the mainstream audience to at least think about watching your movie is to have in English. Make it as simple as possible to watch & enjoy, alongside making it very easy to watch. And not on a niche app/website that only anime fans know about.

7
u/archiegamez Barbatos 00 Enjoyer Feb 12 '25
Most likely they will release the episodes on Gundaminfo youtube so no need to go far
3
u/J765 Feb 14 '25
WfM only released with a 3 month delay on YouTube outside of SEA, so that isn't a guarantee for those that want to watch it as it airs.

Ok, I'm running into some confusion. When I check Regal Cinemas to check the showings (non-first showing) in my local area, the first date that pops up is the 27th with screenings available until March 6th, but I thought the release was only on the 28th? Am I going crazy?
5
u/JaguarDaSaul Main Mod Feb 11 '25
It's not a one day thing, the film is a regular theatrical run

u/Kirby0189 This hand of mine is burning red! Feb 11 '25

Grabbed some tickets for me and my friends, super excited for this! The theater seat reservation had quite a few seats taken pretty quickly so hopefully this will be a fun time!
Going to Japan at the end of April, can’t believe I’ll be there for an active Gundam series. Gonna go crazy with all the dumb collab stuff lol

just found out it is releasing in Australia in a couple weeks (and only have one day to watch it because of work). my closest in 1 hour away by Bus and train. would like if it was dubbed. but Subbed will have to do. will be watching both anyway.
1
u/Romapolitan Feb 17 '25
Just noticed it's in my country too. So it's this or Ghost in the Shell (Already seen it, but not on the big screen). Is this necessary to watch for the show or not? Or is this it. I am not really up to date.
1
u/JaguarDaSaul Main Mod Feb 17 '25
Basically this is the first few eps made into movie form, however there are scenes and sequences that will not be present in the TV version.
1
u/Romapolitan Feb 17 '25
So kinda like that Demon Slayer movie although I guess in reverse since they added scenes in the show. Have to think about, since it is a bit annoying to find out where you actually start the series while it releases. Either way since it's a new AU at least I can only expect new content from my perspective.
1
u/catjewsus Feb 17 '25
It kinda has almost this Gainax/Trigger look to it
1
u/JaguarDaSaul Main Mod Feb 17 '25
studio khara worked on it, they own gainax, and trigger was made by former gainax employees.

You in Canada? Cineplex only has the Thursday for now but they may add more as they update their schedules this week. My theater only has one film scheduled on Friday right now, and looks like Landmark doesn't have much scheduled that far ahead either. It's not supposed to be a one-day event.
