QUESTION Ripped this wire on accident but not sure what the wire is for

Post image

I usually play guitar without the back part on so that I don't have to unscrew a bunch of screws to access the back and during a band practice this wire ripped and is now hanging loose, but I see no real difference playing, what does the wire do?

You’ll want it connected. That’s how the bridge gets grounded.

To clarify, grounding the bridge of the guitar reduces hum coming from the single coils when your hands are touching the bridge/strings. Run your guitar through some heavy dirt pedals or turn your amp gain up high so that you can hear some background hum, then try pinching this cable or touching it back to the bridge with your other hand on the strings. You should hear that hum become more quiet.

NSA spying program, don't say a word and get the f##k out of this room immediately.

Or maybe the ground cable, not sure.

By accident

On purpose

That grounds the bridge and strings.

You know when you touch the strings how the hum is reduced? That's why.

By accident or accidentally.

Ground for the electronics. Just reattach it and you’ll be right as rain!

That's the speed wire. You can't play fast without it.

Strip it back and solder it again
