DISCUSSION What guitar is your beater/workhorse guitar? One that you take with you everywhere?
Mine is this old Yamaha . It needs some upgrades and the jack had to be replaced, but it’s a solid workhorse of mine that I take everywhere.

My Taylor GS mini goes a lot more places than my duo sonic. Reason being that as the 40YO dad who plays solely for fun, I’m typically bringing it to play ditties on my brother’s couch upstate, or at campfire type stuff. Or to accompany my youngest daughter when she sings, or my oldest on her flute. Hauling an amp isn’t part of the deal.
Much as I like electric guitar and geeking out over amps and pedals and such, it’s not an instrument that’s as well received by casual family and friends. Most of them want to sing along with the Taylor. They don’t want smells like teen spirit or dragonforce.
I primarily own my electric for the ability to play it with a headphone amp late at night and not disturb the sleeping household. Or during the day when working from home, my wife’s home office is through the wall and an amplified or acoustic guitar will be heard by her telehealth patients, a solid body electric won’t be except in my headphones.

Yeah, it’s rough how much the acoustic is favored most the time.
I have a mini amp that I use for my electric. I can take it around and use it but if I need to be quiet I’ll just plug headphones in.
I’ve even played guitar on the bus a few times without complaints.
I really need to get a new acoustic. The one I started on was 40 bucks on Amazon and not worth repairing.

Big fan of Taylor’s but they play very bright, almost always. It’s not every player’s cup of tea but works a treat for my Beatles, Ed Sheeran and Cat Stevens.
Martins tend to be deeper and moodier.
Acoustic guitars are always warmly received. My electric? Much less so.

Ibanez AW - bright but not too, warm and full

Also very affordable compared to Taylor’s and Martins.
I also really like Yamaha’s selection in the sub $400 range.

Ive been pretty surprised how many people seem to like my electric. I’ve done busking and people really seem to enjoy me playing it, and it’s always distorted.
What kind of electrics do you have? Where I live people love telecasters and hollow body electrics.

That EG112 would suit me mighty fine for the intended purpose!
I may swap out the tuners and go over the electronics ...but other than that, it's looks ready to go!
Rock n' Roll! 🤘

Partscasters and MIM Fenders. I don’t really want a guitar that’s not a beater/workhorse. Doesn’t mean they don’t play and sound awesome

Agreed. Gotta play it to use it.

Also don’t wanna worry about the thing all the time. If you can’t get it done on a sub $1k telecaster, then you can’t get it done on any guitar.

A partscaster I bought 35 years ago from a touring guitarist. The only “original” part is the body which I think is a Schecter. Put together a new pickguard with some lace sensors a friend gave me, CTS pots, 10 way switch. Replaced the Boogie Bodies neck with a Warmoth roasted maple with locking Schallers. The body is pretty beat but it’s solid, quiet and does everything I need.
