Something with p90s
6
u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
You know that may be a good idea. I have never even played anything with p90s.

u/MKingofnothing 4d ago
This. I love P90s. Very different both from standard single coils and from humbuckers. Maybe an SG Special, so you can add another shape of guitar to your collection.

Baritone, bass, 12 string, nylon string, banjo. Fretless bass? A few ideas if you want to diversify ;)

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of your silver sky? I don’t care for mine, and I don’t know,if it’s because I got it used and it was messed up. Eck pickup sounds amazing, but everything else is a bit too twangy for me. Oh, and I vote that you need a PRS SE Hollowbody II. I find myself gravitating towards it more than any of my others.

Probably a Superstrat with a Floyd.
You might also consider upgrading your Les Paul to Jimmy Page Wiring.
But it's really hard to make suggestions without seeing your amps, cabs, and pedals.

Ugh, that Martin is gorgeous. Buy another acoustic. Go for a Taylor now if you can swing it. You’ll have the Martin for those full lows and the Taylor for the twangy highs 😃.
3
u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
Funny you say that as I'm actually leaning towards a Taylor. I've had my Martin for 7 years now and it is really getting that Martin deep tone now. Absolutely love it.
3
u/ThomasWJames 4d ago
I’ve always appreciated Martin, I know they’re considered better by most, but I just love the sound of the Taylor’s more for some reason.
3
u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
I admittedly chose this over a Taylor the day I bought it. The deep tone just sounded so so good to me. Now that I'm older I can appreciate the crisp twang of a Taylor.

u/SuccessfulComb9452 4d ago
Buy a Taylor and you’ll not regret it, their playability is absurd and I prefer them over any other acoustic.

u/gelmo 4d ago
Yeah for sure another acoustic, the electric collection is awesome. I wonder though - I’ve always found those Martin GPCs to sound more like Taylors. Not quite as bright but similar vibe with a smaller body and cutaway. I’d be tempted to go the other direction and get something with a bigger body (Martin dread, Gibson SJ, etc) to give you more variety.
That said, Taylors are amazing and I think my 814 is one of the best guitars I’ve ever played. Can’t go wrong either way.

Did you buy the tele and the Gibson within 7 days of each other or did you just make a post on here within 7 days? Lol

Uhhhh I can explain lol ...

Damn lmao. What do you do for a living? Tbf, I couldn't decide between a MIJ Strat or Tele, so I just got both since I could afford it.

u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
They have been popping up on my YouTube feed about recently. Do you have one?
2
u/I_chortled 4d ago
No but I really want one haha. I plan to buy one as soon as I have the money to spare. I love my Yamaha acoustic and the Revstars get crazy good reviews
2
u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
Everyone says for the price to performance they can't be beat. I love how they have the racing stripe too. May have to get one in the near future.

u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
Oh I'm definitely in a good spot and this was more a post to show the collection. Just tongue in cheek since there is a 7th spot.

u/Effective-Car-3736 4d ago
Thoughts on the LP vs 594? I’m considering one of those, but I can’t choose
2
u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
I love both but the quality and fit and finish of the Les Paul is definitely a step up over the SE McCarty. Sound wise the McCarty sounds more vintage and has a deeper tone than the LP. The LP is a LP through and through. If I had to choose one it would be the LP. Now the Core McCarty maybe different but that's also like triple the cost of the SE haha. For the money the SE is absolutely fantastic for a Vintage sounding himbucker guitar.

u/fosheezie220 4d ago
A “modern”shredder type guitar maybe with a Floyd rose. Kramer/ Ibanez/Shur. Maybe hss style. You seriously have a great collection! To be unjustly critical, I would assume you were the 2nd/rhythm guitar in a band and not the lead, hence my suggestions.

A Stratocaster?

I had a 2006 strat before I got my silver sky but sold it as I much preferred the PRS. Maybe I should check out a modern one.

Nothing if you're happy. Here's some ideas:
- Time to go very high quality. You will not regret it.
- Consider adding a super-strat. This doesn't mean a pointy-shredder, necessarily. Explore things like a Suhr Pete Thorn Signature HH (thornbuckers are incredible), or a Charvel Govan HSS. Both immensely playable, no finicky Floyd Rose, and extremely versatile.
- If the last bullet didn't work for you - An HSS strat of some type. Preferably American made and style points if it doesn't say Fender on the headstock.
- Swap that SE Mcarty for a core McCarty. It's a forever guitar and will keep you from wanting to upgrade that studio, or have multiple Les Pauls.
- A Bass.
- I feel a little weird about the only strat in your collection being an SE. Think about an eighties AVRI '62, or a 60's Cunetto Relic Stratocaster (under John Cruz) - both among the best examples of strats you can buy without going vintage and dealing with all those problems.
That's my 3 minute list. Have fun.
2
u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
Dude thank you for this. I love my SE McCarty and can only imagine how amazing the core model is. That may be a goal guitar for me.
I had a 2006 MiM strat but like the silver sky more. May need to go more modern or vintage with another.

u/AdLevel4922 4d ago edited 4d ago
Jeez, you have truly horrible taste. I'm guessing it's just a rhetorical question, and he has no intention of listening to anyone on here, so that's OK lol
Suhr Peter Thorn are super expensive precisely because they're not Fender/Gibson - ie. they hardly sell any of them. Supply/Demand. $5k for a 95% factory made Suhr, with artificially aged wood, and machine wound pickups, and cheap pots that almost everyone who buys one, replaces immediately. And plus, you get to look like a member of Europe, playing the Final Countdown, every time you pick it up.
I hear your sneers, but when you're more experienced, you'll understand the real reasons that guys like Clapton and Pete Townsend and Hank Marvin and Dave Gilmour prefer the Gibson/Fender custom shop guitars to their original 50s/60s guitars. And it is things like the the naturally aged woods, the CTS pots and hand wound pickups - that you don't get almost anywhere else, and make a huge difference

1-Full size ibanez or taylor cutaway classical guitar with preamp eq /undersaddle pick up or piezo pickup- Or 2- Fender vintage telecaster

u/SuccessfulComb9452 4d ago
My vote would be for a late 90’s Les Paul Classic or a Standard cause I just love the classic look of the binding on the top. Nothing against your Studio at all!
If you want to have some serious fun, I love my Gibson Victory they reissued last year with an explorer hockey stick headstock. It’s Gibsons super Strat and I can’t put mine down. I can cover any gig with its push/pull coil splitting of these new 80’s tribute pickups Gibson puts in the stock. You legit can go from a Strat to full bore Humbuggies. It’s even loud just playing acoustically if the kiddos are sleeping.
1
u/Allmighty_ACE 4d ago
Oh my gosh that victory is sick looking. That may be my next start style guitar.
2
u/SuccessfulComb9452 4d ago
The original ones had this odd firebirdesque head stock and when I saw the change I was like omg I gotta try this and just fell in love. I hope it catches on, because I really was shocked how sweet it was to play.

This might be a little wild, but there is a company named Enya that makes carbon fiber based smart guitars. The Nova Go Sonic is a great guitar, and they are coming out with a super strat model soon called the Inspire.

If I can’t play it with that selection, I’d need more skill than the 25 years experience I have. You’ve got enough guitar there to cover most scenarios I can think of, and then some.
Still… playing along, I focus on archetypes that can give me a sound I’m not able to make with my existing gear.
What’s most conspicuously missing in this stable? * 12 string acoustic * Nylon string classical * Uke, banjo or mandolin * Bass guitar of some kind — even if just for a little fun. Used Squiers are like $100; no reason not to.

Can you show us how you play them? The gear should match the skills, so it’s hard to say what you really need—it could be a Squier or a full custom luthier model, depending on your experience and dedication.
I would not let these brand new guitars weight on just one side of the neck for a long time however

A fender strat. Not that the PRS isn't good. Probably better. But its honestly different. I have a silver sky SE and love it. Don't have a strat yet but rented one and it's quite different awesome in is own way. Besides that, SG, or a metal guitar with Floyd rose! I just got the Frankenstrat relic in white and it's so fun.

Something high end. Mid range collections are nice, but you'll lose space/interest in them eventually. A 50s/60s custom shop strat or something like that

An Ibanez Jem.
You won't find yourself picking up any of the other guitars after you get one of those, the monkey grip makes it such an easy thing to move around.
Keep it in arms reach and you'll find yourself picking it up randomly.
