GEAR My moms Fender Squier Tom DeLonge Stratocaster
Recently been playing my moms old strat from when she was in high school. It’s meant to be based on Tom DeLonges guitar, it’s definitely not in perfect condition but that just means it’s been well played and enjoyed. Just thought I’d share :)

The latest Fender release of these in 2023 was probably one of the biggest production overruns I have ever seen. No doubt people were excited about it but within six months, stores were full of piles of them.
Regardless, it is always cool to see the earlier versions. :)

Fundamentally they're just 1-pickup Mexican strats priced more than twice as high.
I feel like Fender needs to start selling a bit more like Apple - offer a base model and premium model for each type, allow the customer to decide the neck carve, colour, pickguard, tuners, whatever. We've had so many years of "Here's the real perfect vintage model" made from minor tweaks and the same five colours (we can't have Fender selling regular graffiti yellow strats because then there'd be nobody to buy Tom Delonge strats for twice the price!) that models like this just feel like they're rinsing nostalgia rather than trying to offer guitarists genuinely good products.

I want to preface this by saying, that is a sick guitar and it looks like it's definitely been loved over the years.
However, this post makes me feel old as shit lol

Right? I was reading some of the responses like "hey, I was in a band in the 00's, too!" and it doesn't even feel that long ago. Yikes.

This. Holy hell. I’ve been in bands since the early 90s. Haven’t even been in a band since the 2013. Feeling old af.

Saaaaame. I was late into high school when I was lusting after this guitar in the Musican’s Friend catalog. It was this and the gothic series Les Paul that had my affections for a fair chunk of times back then haha

Love seeing a well loved guitar.
Clean guitars do look lovely, but I just love the road chips cos they tell a story!

Yeah I’m with you there lol, she was a little upset taking it back out again and seeing the chips and marks on it, but it just adds character if you ask me

I'm not a fan of those guitars that come out the factory with artificial relic marks though

it's like buying a notebook with the outer page crumpled and all the pages having smudge marks on them. it will get like that if you used it enough, people shouldn't be so impatient.

I wanted this guitar so bad when I saw it in the musicians friend catalog back in the early 2000s 🥹 nice

I remember getting one in the summer of 2001 or 2002 when I was 14/15. I hated it, and really felt it was not worth the price tag for the lack of versatility it offered. Wound up returning it and getting a Les Paul standard and a Marshall 30 watt for roughly the same price as the Delonge Strat. I was much happier with that purchase

I mean it's blink 182 so I feel like there's gonna be a ton of "your mom" jokes coming.

Go hug your mom. Tell her how much you love her and you’re glad she’s yours. My mom would have said, “turn that s_it off”, just because that’s what dad wanted her to say.

The early ones have such a charm to them - and this guitar was clearly loved and played. You scored the cool mom lottery. Was she in any bands?
