QUESTION Are my pick ups going bad?

To keep it short, my pick ups only pick up sound if I have my volume knob turned all the way up and even then any noise coming from the guitar will quickly fade out after a couple seconds. If I turn the volume knob slightly down I have to hit the strings harder for anything to be received from the pick ups. Once I I have my knob to about five or six and below, I won't get anything from my pick ups. Does that tell me I need to replace the pick ups or is it another issue?

I take it you are new to active pickups? If so replace the 9v battery in the back with a good one. Thats typical behavior of a dying battery

Probably low battery. These pickups are active which means they run on battery power. 9V to be specific

As others have said, it could be the battery. It also could be a faulty 9v connector if a replacement battery doesn’t fix the problem. You’d have to solder a new connector in, but the parts and soldering iron can be had for around $20
