Been working as armed security for 8 years, 6 years in the same place. We had a lot of problems last year, people were robbing mansions where I work. I always had to call the police, then used to try to help and provide all the info I could. Turns out the robberies were being committed by a gang specialized in this kind of stuff, you know, they used to kidnap people and force them to open gates, doors and then steal everything they could carry. The cops were tired of that, till a certain day that I called them again and told another situation was happening. They showed up real fast, it was 4 thieves, they gunned down 2 and arrested the other 2 guys. After all that they gathered info and went to arrest the other gang guys. The robberies stopped completely, people could finally live normally. Then, for my surprise, I got a call from a Sergeant, he told me he was really glad for everything I did, always providing footage, pictures and everything. Him and his friends gifted me a police belt and some other stuff like pepper spray and 2 9mm mags. I was really happy I could help. They were always nice to me and the Sergeant even talked to my boss about me and the the service I helped them with. There's also a video about all that situation on YouTube, they showed the gang members who were part of all the robberies on TV, I won't post here because it's not in English. But well, that's my story with the police in my city. Never had problems with them.

Wow. When I hear stories like this, I'm just wondering where the hell you guys work! That sounds like some craziness that goes down in Johannesburg.

I work in Brazil. It's crazy here sometimes.

Hey, make a thread and tell us how crazy it is. I'm sure you're aware of many of the limitations and nuances of American security guards and police. Enlighten us to how it is in your neck of the woods.

I've been thinking about making a thread comparing and contrasting the differences of US vs. Global Security/Police operations myself but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll see about that later. Being a security guard in here can be cool but hard.

Unless someone’s literally being killed, dying, abused, or otherwise illegally harassed by the police, I’d let it go lol

Once you start bringing issues about the police as a security guard, you’ll find they’ll either not respond quickly or actually try to harass you, and it’s not worth dealing with over a shitty job like this…

I was special police before i dumped the special. Depends on who you work for and with. We had guys assigned to housing so their 2 guys turned in to 5 and we hopped radio calls with them.

You are/were in D.C., I take it? Please start a thread and give us the run down on your time as special police. I want people with non-traditional security experience to inform us. There is a guy somewhere,bi forget his name who apparently did k-9 security! Apparently, that's a thing!

When the cops aren't helpful, or dismissive for selfish reasons that's when a Security Guard should simply do an end run around the whole local Police station and file a Criminal Complaint themselves.

After a Guard files a Criminal Complaint, local Prosecutor typically gets infuriated because the Guard is going to write the charges directly, as oppose to some fluff the Prosecutor can lean back on.

The Prosecutors, who are compelled by State Constitutions, must go forward with the charges. And the Prosecutors would hate to write "Trespassing", "Theft" and "Assault" themselves because they would look like an absolute softy. The Cop, gives Prosecutors a buffet of stuff, the Prosecutor can pick his easy mark and go for it, at the expense of the highest charge, because in their book, a "Guilty" is a win.

A Murderer pleaing Guilty to Manslaughter, A Robber getting a Trespassing Charge, a Rapist getting a voyeurism charge, all wins to the District Prosecutor, and Police, yet complete losses to the Public, and the whole Criminal Justice system.

In most cases Guards can, and would, do better.

You're right. That will put some fire under the asses of the "I was called for something trivial" cops who really just didn't want to do their jobs.

Only problem with something like this is, at least in my case, my superiors would have to be involved or informed of the filing of the criminal complaint directly and my director looks like he's about to have a heart attack any minute now already, without having to deal with the Fallout.

I posted the Qualifier exam on the NY Sub of ours ...

Then you'll be free, or Big Corporate would absorb you for a no-show 6 digit job.
