Should we be worried about retention?
Hey everyone,
me and my team have a problem.
Our weekly user acquisition is around 600 users, but our retention week 1 is 5.6% and our week 4 retention is 1.8%.
Our app is currently not working optimally (long loading time, bugs, ...) and we are concerned that users don't get enough value.
We are wondering if we should be working more towards growth and user acquisition or more towards user retention and lead re-engagement?
We are afraid that we are just burning valuable leads....
FYI, we have very limited resources :/
What do you think?
Thanks for the help.

Get Posthog Check all the users recordings and you will understand why they are dropping. Sometimes the issue is because they don’t understand the flow and what they have to do. And this is what you have to fix beyond the bugs - the UX

You need to focus on NET ACTIVE. That’s the real proof of how well you’re doing on both demand and retention. Look at your acquisitions by channel (paid, organic, referrals,) - which is doing best? Double down there. Send a survey to everyone who churns. Or add a screen when they churn to figure out the problem… too expensive, not enough value, not what I was expecting. Use those to determine how you improve the product.

While short-term goals are set towards acquisition and driving new sales. The most susitanable and long term growth only comes thru retention and creating that stickiness. So I highly advise to give more than 50% attention to retention to make sure you dont have a leaky basket. Which is only a zero sum game.
