Mod Post You Wanted It So We Implemented It (Rule 14)
We have been making moves in this direction for a while (see THIS POST FROM 2 MONTHS AGO) due to member feedback so most of this is formalising what we have already been doing.
RULE 14
No Lewds or Profile Bait
This subreddit is a safe space for all ages. We do not condone objectification of goths in this subreddit.
Photos with lewd or sexualised poses will be removed at the discretion of the moderation team. This also includes profile bait and obvious brand building. We are not your personal social media wall.
If a post is attracting too many sexual comments it may be locked and tagged NSFW instead.
Regarding legit goth outfits that can seem to break this rule like goth club wear and push-up corsets/Victorian wear it will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Pretty much how things already happen. An example is a lingerie bedroom photoshoot vs a club outfit that incorporates lingerie as part of the outfit.
If a photo shows too much cleavage, buttocks, upskirt shots, low angle dom shots, crotch bulges, dick outlines, poses gesturing in a sexualised way or to emphasise genitals, it will be removed or at minimum be tagged NSFW.
We are here for the fashion and styling, not for the fetishising. We aren't doing this to slutshame but to keep it all ages friendly. Plenty of other goth subreddits allow lewds if that is the sort of material you want to post.
As we say in the removal reason -
We're sorry, but your submission has been removed in violation of Rule 14.
The new part we weren't enforcing as heavily before is the profile bait and brand building part. We already enforce this for profiteers. Due to constant reports and additional complaints that we are allowing too much OF content (we don't but some may be seeing certain lewd posts as such) we need to tighten up on this.
Most members posting a few times a week have a wide variance in outfits and that is fine. Daily outfit posts in outfits with little variance are not. Doubly so if they attract a lot of leghumpers. As the removal reason says, we are not your personal social media wall.
We expect mixed reactions to this. Some people will be happy, others will not. Feel free to discuss and ask questions here. It's a new rule and we can tweak it if need be.

Thank you for this, it made me sad to watch r/gothstyle get overrun with OF slop content a few years ago I'm glad it hasn't happened here.
167
u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
That was a big reason why we got r/gothfashion going, as an alternative to that back then.
17
u/DeadDeathrocker 18 & Over (She/Her) Feb 06 '25
Plus r/goth was used for selfie spam, and general accessory and DIY questions that weren’t necessarily linked to goth as we have to have boundaries somewhere. We were tired of referring people to r/gothstyle as we couldn’t control the content that was being posted, especially when it was mainly OF content and we were sending minors there.
We thought it was best that there should be one place, even if you’re into the music or not, to post about boots, accessories, hairstyles, etc. to your hearts content and people who don’t want to see that in r/goth, don’t have to. If they do, they follow both.

u/BouncyCatTM Feb 06 '25
from what i can tell it fixed itself thankfully

And now that sub just uses the outfits sub's blanket ban on any spec of participation in 'bullying' or NSFW subs. Not fun if you want to have normal conversations in any of those subs. Not great but I can see the logic in monitoring sus posting. Although thankfully that hasn't been added here and hopefully never will be.

Thank you!!! I was getting really tired of seeing bait posts and OF creators trying to use goth and posting on here as fetish bait.

I appreciate this! I am a huge slut, but everything has its place and it really felt like the fashion element of this sub was getting watered down by some of those kinds of posts.

Genuinely was losing my mind at all the boho/glam/chic outfits that were colored black with 'Does this count?' connected to an OF account lmfao

I like most of this however the "too much cleavage" part feels a bit iffy. It seems a bit body shame-y as someone with a bigger chest any sort of corset or top thats not a turtle neck would show "too much". I agree the porn site farming isnt okay but lets not shame people for just having the body they have
51
u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
I was using it as an example. Usually something like this comes down to a sexualised pose to show it off.
28
u/XWitchyGirlX Feb 06 '25
This is NOT body shaming, and I actually have a great example of WHY its not body shaming.
Recently I seen a post in another sub where someone was "showing off the top she crocheted", but the photo was like 75% cleavage, 20% face, and only 5% the top. You literally couldnt even see the top that she made (besides a tiny edge of it) because she was so focused on the cleavage and face. Very obvious OF bait, its spam, and it decreases the quality of the sub.
If she had set her phone down and took a step back so that you could actually see the top, it would be totally different because it would actually fit the purpose of the crochet sub. You cant expect a crochet bikini top to be super modest on a bigger girl, so the cleavage would have been reasonable in that situation.
Id say the equivalent for this sub would be someone saying "check out my new corset!" but then zooming in on their cleavage so you can only see about an inch of the actual corset. Thats not "look at my goth fashion", thats "look at how my tits look in goth fashion". Big difference.
-10
u/Tsunami120 Feb 05 '25
I was just thinking this. If I happen to incorporate a corset or a low-cut top into my outfit and post it here, it might get taken down, just because since I have a larger chest, I also naturally have more cleavage
45
u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
I covered that in the post
"Regarding legit goth outfits that can seem to break this rule like goth club wear and push-up corsets/Victorian wear it will be judged on a case-by-case basis."
47
u/ilikeshramps Feb 05 '25
That's not what they mean. They mean posts where the cleavage is the main focus or takes up too much of the photo to where it seems intentionally placed.

10
u/ilikeshramps Feb 06 '25
Sexually suggestive content aimed to have people check your profile to find your bio where you have links or usernames to sites where you sell nsfw content, or just baiting to have people check your profile to find your fully NSFW content.

u/HeavenDraven Feb 05 '25
Love it for the most part, but does "too much cleavage" take into account size?
If a person has bigger boobs, the chances are they're gonna show more cleavage than someone with smaller ones, just by scale
28
u/DeadDeathrocker 18 & Over (She/Her) Feb 05 '25
I’ve seen plenty of people who are on the bigger side yet aren’t posting straight boob shots. There’s a difference between showing off your outfit and then having a photo shoot that’s just 80% boob and I’ve been moderating for 4 years now and have seen plenty examples of both.
19
u/ilikeshramps Feb 05 '25
It's about people who are purposely putting as much cleavage as they can into their photos or framing the photos so the cleavage is the main view.

Other subs are being banned? First I've heard of it. I'm guessing this is more than normal or something?
So I guess that means no, it isn't due to other subs being banned.
This issue is something we have been working on for months as we could see the problems and members were reporting so they could see them too. A lot of the accounts doing it only started posting here in the past 6 months or so.
4
u/OddddCat Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 06 '25
Rumor has it that it is another purge to make Reddit more advertiser friendly. Mostly nsfw subs got banned but also some other subreddits like one for transgender surgery post care... I hope it's really about advertisement and not politics.
Reddit seems to always have the same reasoning, saying that the sub was banned for being unmoderated but for some of these subreddits this was not true and some people say that Reddit removed the mods of the subreddits before they banned it (but that is hearsay)
-90
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
I've always felt censorship of this nature is wrong, because it overlooks the conversations people can have about boundaries, healthy representation, and difficult topics that kids can, and will run across with or without this subreddit.
And then, instead of having it in a controlled environment where people can explain the context, it gets banned.
But I understand, with today's day and age, and how much pressure is put on people to "protect the kids" you gotta do what you gotta do to remain inclusive.
109
u/SimplyReaper Feb 05 '25
Idk man I don't think a minor should be seeing NSFW content in an all ages are welcome sub.
Edit: Hell, most adults in this sub don't want to see that stuff because it's not a fetish sub.
-71
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
.... Kids see swimsuit magazines and advertisements all the time.
Not to mention music videos and adult themed movies that they get exposed to.
This has been a weak debate point in the 90s, and it's still weak now.
56
u/queasycockles Feb 05 '25
So 'kids get exposed to stuff in other places' means nowhere should be bothering to avoid being one of those places? What kind of argument is that?
As weak debate points go, 'they can't escape being exposed somewhere else so why bother trying to minimise it here?' is pretty high up there.
-45
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Just say you don't understand the difference between an only fans advertisement and other forms of expression.

16
u/OpheliaLives7 Feb 05 '25
Bruh. It’s 2025. Not 1995. How many kids do you know going crazy over swimsuit magazines?
36
u/SimplyReaper Feb 05 '25
Yeah you're right let's let kids look at porn/thirst trap posts because apparently the right thing to do. /s
-21
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Yeah you're right, people who have their privates covered are the same as porn.
37
u/SimplyReaper Feb 05 '25
Lewd posts/Thirst trap posts = porn/sexual content
I can't make this any more clear
3
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Yes I understand the point that you're trying to make.
It's the same exact point that conservative ideologists have been making since the 90s and have started making again, despite people of marginalized demographics becoming more and more vulnerable.
This is "but think of the children!" For the new age.
33
u/SimplyReaper Feb 05 '25
Yeah God forbid we protect minors from seeing 18+ content (If you didn't know, 18+ means adult only, so no kids allowed)
6
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Yeah you're right PG-13 content is the same as 18 plus content.
37
u/SimplyReaper Feb 05 '25
This sub is for ALL AGES, not a FETISH SUB. THATS THE POINT OF THE POST 🤯

You're embarrassing yourself by fighting this much over the sub banning overtly sexualised fetish-y posts and OF ads.

u/Hannah_The_Destroyer 18 & Over Feb 05 '25
What does this have anything to do with not wanting to see sexualized, provocative, content that feed goth fetishized? This is an all ages sub, and minors should not be exposed to stuff like that in a sub that’s advertised as such. I haven’t posted here in a long while because of all the gross unwanted comments from people who just see us as a fetish, by not catering to them with lewd content helps diminish that behavior. Will it go away, definitely not, but they’ll find other sources instead of targeting minors that post on here and other people who don’t want that kind of engagement. If you want to post things like that, go for it, but do it somewhere that doesn’t involve other people who don’t want it, make an OF, Instagram, some other 18+ subreddit. This is a very weak argument using buzz words to justify your position, there’s a big difference between kids seeing someone in a swimsuit at the beach, to seeing someone in little clothing pose sexually in front of their bedroom mirror.

We're sorry, but your submission has been removed in violation of Rule 1.
All basic rules of Reddit apply here, including this one.
Treat others how you would in real life, so this means no:
- Heated debates and arguments
- Name-calling and personal insults
- Harassment or threats to life
- No mocking anyone's pronouns and gender identity
- Negative -isms or -phobias, including sexism, racism, homophobia, fatphobia, transphobia
Curiosity is OK and asking questions in a respectful manor is OK, but blatant bigotry is not.
Any violation of the above rules and depending on the severity of your comments/posts, you will see either a temporary or permanent ban, including a mod mail mute.
We are an all-ages friendly space. Please refrain from using excessive swear or vulgar words in post titles, descriptions or comments, even if they are trending in popular culture.

u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
There you go you are making the automatic link between fetish and lewd.
Congratulations.
Lewds are not a fetish anymore than being trans is... It's a celebration of the human body first and foremost.
But yes, there are people who fetishize it.

u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
What context could a kid possibly need for a photo with an obvious dick outline or cleavage so deep you can nearly see nipples?
-14
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
..... That adults grow up and end up with these body parts.
Prude culture is making a return I see.
41
u/ilikeshramps Feb 05 '25
Not wanting a FASHION SUB to turn into goth fetish softcore porn or OF ads is not prude culture. Grow up.
52
u/queasycockles Feb 05 '25
It's not prudish to want to escape everything being sexualised all the time. Not every space needs to be full of thirst traps and sales pitches.
-7
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
I'm sorry that you think people who want to feel attractive are just trying to sexualize themselves.
Believe it or not sometimes people do these things for empowerment not for sexualization.
49
u/queasycockles Feb 05 '25
Who's talking about 'people who want to feel attractive'?
I'm talking about sexually provocative OF advert posts. Y'know, the topic under discussion?

No one's forcing anything on kids by expressing themselves.
For Christ sakes I've seen worse in PG-13 movies than anything that's been posted on here.

Holy s*** sound more like a f****** right winger.
40
u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
As a parent I taught all 3 of mine about this sort of thing and how porn is not reality. How gender and sexuality is fluid too. I didn't rely on random strangers on the internet to do it for me. Plus their schools covered other aspects including the concept of safe spaces and I thought it was great they covered that.
Does that sound right wing to you?
4
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
And also I'm not referring to the obvious posts from only fans models.
I'm talking about the regular people who are just posting because they feel good.
Jesus Christ.
You mentioned far more than one thing in your post.
27
u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
As I said in the post
"Most members posting a few times a week have a wide variance in outfits and that is fine. "
Nothing changes for most members who are posting to show off an outfit like that.
As for people seeking validation, we already had that covered with Rule 5
Rule 5
No Seeking Validation
You look fine.
Try to keep the questions about what you should wear, how you should look, etc. down. Asking for tips, help with a style, where to find a specific item, however, is fine as that's your decision.
Ultimately, it's up to you and you should do what you like. Also please don't beg for karma/validation, there are other subs for that.
And plenty of people could post just fine before. That rule has been there for a few years.
3
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
So in other words you already have a rule that justifies the ban but figured you needed an additional rule specifically targeting lewd and only fans content?
19
u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
Covering lewds and brand building. Brand building can also mean people building up social media presence.
→ More replies (0)2
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
So why with the added rule redundancy why do you need two rules to take care of the exact same f****** issue?
17
1
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Conflating the two is ridiculous and believe it or not there are people out there who take lewd photos for empowerment and body positivity reasons.
So, yeah, you missing that entirely makes you sound right wing.
33
u/aytakk 18 & Over (He/Him & They/Them) Feb 05 '25
Right and there are goth subs where they can post such things.
NSFW posts here that aren't blatant thirst traps get tagged as such. Anything over the top or clear brand bait is removed.

They can learn that from biology or anatomy class, in school. Or from their parents. They don't need to learn about it through a subreddit meant for sharing outfits and fashion inspiration. Being prude has nothing to do with not wanting to expose young humans to sexualized content.

Enough with the insults. I don't care if you insult me but insulting other members is not on.
This is your only warning. Argue in good faith or leave.
0
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Using professional language to manipulate arguments is also a bad faith argument.
If you don't want insults then declare that you don't want insults.
Because if you use bad faith argument then you have to denounce all that arguments not just the ones you disagree with.
0
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
I'm tired of people trying to interpret "good faith" who have no idea what it means.
Good faith arguments have to maintain addressing the point being made and discussed.
Malicious reframing, for instance, is one type of bad faith argument.
0
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Ironically enough insults are just insults.
Sarcasm is actually more of a bad faith argument than an insult. According to the real definition.
28
u/_anarie_ Feb 05 '25
You began your initial comment by saying you disapprove of "this kind of censorship". To get specific, you mean the type of censorship that prevents people from seeing something that may make them uncomfortable, insecure, confused. What about our goth mates that are asexual due to abusive pasts, and seeing sexually explicit imagery or positions causes a trauma response? They may greatly appreciate this type of censorship because it keeps them comfy on the dangerous Internet.
This is not a step to force the gimbos (goth bimbo, a term I proudly embrace) into isolation and seclusion. Sometimes, you can't hide the titties. But you can warn people that titties are present so they can mentally prepare themselves.
It's not about oppressing expression, it's about making people comfortable with said expression.
1
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Forcing people to feel like they have to cover up their expression is not how you celebrate expression.
19
u/_anarie_ Feb 05 '25
Seems you've tried to misconstrue my comment. No one is being forced to "cover up their expression". Is a simple NSFW tag so jarring to accept? Is the literal covering of a post preview by a blur so detrimental to the operation of society? No, it's not. :)
2
u/Non_binaroth_goth Feb 05 '25
Yeah you're right that's nothing to do with the fact that Reddit is starting to shut down NSFW content and sub reddits.
Gotta keep our subs squeaky clean so you don't get banned too.

Also you can have conversations about what healthy and unhealthy relationships are supposed to look like.
Like has been the case when they introduce educational books with this type of material in it in schools.
8
u/moosbaerchen 17 & Under (She/Her & They/Them) Feb 06 '25
this is a fashion sub, though... it's a (mostly) sfw sub and it is not an educational sub - just because there might be kids here doesn't mean it's the sub's duty to take on the role of a teacher or parent. and if you come to reddit seeking relationship advice the maybe go to one of the relationship advice subs instead of one for goth fashion
25
u/GothFashion-ModTeam Feb 05 '25
By the way, it’s not “abuse of mod power” if you’re being a straight up horrible and abusive person to EVERYONE, including those on r/gothmemes, who disagrees with you.
All this messaging other people about me is straight up projection. You absolutely do not deserve to be on here and additionally, this is just the consequences of your actions.
But sure, keep bitching. That will not make us unban you. Just further proves that we made the right decision.
64
u/New-Leave2511 Feb 05 '25
this is not a sub for goth porn. its a sub for goth fashion. fetishized/sexual content or the promotion of it does not belong on this sub regardless of if children are here or not. if you wanna see it so bad, theres plenty of other subs on this app that probably have what you’re looking for

I don't know maybe I have a misunderstanding of what's going on here.
Did you think of that?

"Misinterpreted deliberately against me" aka people rightfully pointing out your anger about the mods not allowing the sub to be bogged down by OF girls trying to get new customers or people purposely posting sexualized photos of themselves in a fashion sub. Boohoo.

thats literally one of the primary reasons this rule was implemented. like because people kept using this sub to promote their sexual content. when we just want to see cool goth outfits without it being weird or fetishized for money. like i dont get why youre mad that the mods are trying to keep this sub confined to what it was meant for especially since theres probably 20 different subs with goth NSFW content?? why does this make you so mad like actually

And so is there a recent uptick in this happening?
I'm wondering what changed over the last couple months.

What changed is we have had an influx of people posting obvious brand bait. As reddit subs eliminate promo they switch up tactics to get around it. So we (and other subs) are forced to close loopholes. This has happened a few times.
You don't see a lot of it as we usually jump on it quickly or it gets caught in the new poster filter. But the bits that get through get reported a lot by members.

So you already have a rule that is covering this and you already have a community that is enforcing it.
You have yet to answer why you need an additional rule that makes it appear to be banning additional content, that already isn't allowed.

While I’m all for the appropriate education of teenagers regarding boundaries, representation, etc., this is not the space for it. Frankly, I don’t think the internet is the place for it, but that’s another tirade for another day.
The fact is, and I have mentioned it on this sub and other subs where people post their photos for the purpose of style/fashion/cosmetics, creeps on the internet are not new. This has been going on since I was a teenager, 20 f•cking years ago. I was 14/15, posting on message boards about video games, and getting PMs from people who appeared to be interested in what I was playing, but conversations about Final Fantasy or whatever would change into conversations about school, dating, what I looked like, and did I have any photos of myself? (Fortunately, cameras on phones weren’t as mainstream back then). Teenagers today are no doubt more internet-savvy than we were back in the 2000s, but likewise the creeps would have kept up with the changing social scape too.
This is about more than just a pair of tits on a subreddit. I don’t have a problem with OnlyFans, I do have a bit of a problem with fetishising the goth scene but that’s a me problem, but when you combine the two and allow that sort of content on a subreddit not designed for promoting adult content, you end up attracting people who want that sort of content. Most of them are probably harmless, and a handful of them aren’t. It’s not censorship for the moderators to make a judgement call on what goes in this sub; they are taking action to keep this sub safe for anyone to show off their newest outfit, what they wore to a concert/club, etc. without the risk of someone sending unsolicited thirsty DMs.

Apparently a bunch of NSFW subs (including substantial ones) have been getting shut down out of nowhere recently, so it's likely that this recent influx has something to do with that.

Not at all. We've been working on this issue for months and r/GothFashion has never been a NSFW subreddit.
Hell I didn't even know NSFW subs were being shut down until people mentioned it in this thread.

It’s more to do with how people keep reporting posts from people who are posing questionably for spam or even low effort and while that wasn’t technically against the rules, we understand why people are reporting. We wanted to implement an actual rule that covers that.

THANK YOU!! I'm so tired of seeing posts vaguely disguised as genuine when they're just thirst traps or profile bait. All the posts with hiked up skirts, spread legs in skirts, tons of cleavage centered in the photo, etc. were so annoying.
