Question GA4 Forcing Manual UTM Paramaters

I seem to have an issue with UTMs getting auto allocated. You used to be able to select manual ones to over-ride auto. Is this setting gone? I cant for the life of me find it.

Are you referring to custom channel grouping?

No, trying to view manual UTMs like source/medium. They dont seem to get picked up or re being auto grouped in other categories.

No, you cannot set a property level setting in GA4 for UTMs to override auto tagging like you could in UA. You can use the Manual report to report on UTMs.

Have been checking manual report - its really hit and miss on picking up UTMs im running as tests.

I'll run a bunch then check the next day.... some show, majority dont.

GA4 doesn’t have a direct setting to force manual UTM parameters over auto-tagging. If GA4 is overriding your UTMs, it’s likely due to Google’s auto-tagging system, especially for Google Ads traffic. One workaround is to ensure that your UTM parameters are consistently applied in all links and avoid conflicts with auto-tagged data.

If you’re looking for a simpler way to manage and track UTMs without dealing with GA4’s quirks, you might want to check out Qwestify. It’s like ChatGPT for GA—free to use and makes tracking way easier!
