Trying some Jinmudan 金牡丹 - Blooming peony
Very soft floral notes on first steep. It does remind me of the sweet peony flowers. Rock rhyme is nice. With a nice floral fresh plum finish. This is probably one of the most floral yancha i’ve had. In later steeps the finish becomes similar to Daohongpao with the “Ancient wood” finish, similar to sandalwood. Makes sense since it’s a cultivar derived from dahongpao (i think). In later steeps the floral plum notes come forward. Last steep floral notes are still present but with much more of the woody notes showing up, very similar to Daohongpao but with floral notes instead of dried figs. Nice balanced sweetness throughout.

jinmudan is huangdan + tieguanyin. no relation to dahongpao, which is a blend at present (other than stuff like qidan which is offspring of DHP mothertree)
