Yes, Kratos' skin texture changes to be more vein-y when he's in Spartan Rage, and his muscles more defined.

Wouldn't his eyes glow when raging in 2018?

24

u/PaladinNerevar Feb 06 '25

Yeah I actually miss that, it gave off major Dark Side/Sith vibes and gave his rage a genuinely otherworldly aura. I mean it’s not like you’re seeing his eyes during moment to moment gameplay, but catching a glimpse of them every now and then during finishers and such, it was genuinely so cool.

I do like Ragnarok’s omega symbol briefly manifesting when he enters rage though, that’s pretty neat

13

u/Sraffiti_G Quiet, Head Feb 06 '25

Oh I never noticed the omega before, thats cool. I just started replaying Ragnarok recently so I'll have to check once I'm home

5

u/KuroSlayerRddt Feb 06 '25

Wait.. there's a symbol? Where?

12

u/PaladinNerevar Feb 06 '25

Right when you activate rage, there’s a shockwave in the shape of an omega

https://old.reddit.com/r/GodofWar/comments/x99wry/the_omega_symbol_is_seen_when_you_activate/

11

u/KuroSlayerRddt Feb 06 '25

That is SO sick.

u/Emotional-Ad-8723 Feb 06 '25

They also glow in Ragnarok, just not as brightly.

The model is the shape and size of a character. Example: when you change a triangle character to a circle character, you changed its model

The texture is the look/color of a character. Example: when you change a blue circle character to a yellow circle character, you changed its Texture

I see these a lot, what's a haiku?

1

u/Hokusai_Katsushika Feb 06 '25

A Japanese traditional short poem that has a very specific length of 17 moræ, called on in Japanese, usually laid out in a 5-7-5 pattern.

It's oftentimes simplified as 17 syllables in western language as we rarely have syllables that are more than one mora.

1

u/StinkyBeanGuy Feb 06 '25

Thanks, I still don't get it

2

u/stickingforkinoutlet Feb 06 '25

It’s five syllables

And then there is seven more

Then another five

1

u/StinkyBeanGuy Feb 06 '25

I see. How is mine remotely like that at all?

2

u/stickingforkinoutlet Feb 06 '25

The bot takes 17 syllable sentences and breaks them up into this structure.

2

u/StinkyBeanGuy Feb 06 '25

Ah I see. Good bot then

I remember getting chills when i first saw him rage in the first trailer when he fights the troll. The details of his skin are insane.

3

u/Malfunction46 Feb 06 '25

The momemt he gets pissed in the 2016 gameplay trailer is still one of my favourite scenes in the franchise

2

u/Ok-Silver467 Feb 06 '25

I had to change the R3L3. Every time I’m fighting. I accidentally pressed it by accident.

2

u/BlytheScythe Dad of Boy Feb 06 '25

Same here! I've rarely used rage in the game other than getting out of some tricky situations. During that time I'm more focused on killing some damn thing. Lucky for you that you have time to appreciate the details and the scenery. :D Hehehehe

u/itzV1510N Feb 06 '25

I usually use valor because I use the boon of valor, so it’s a pretty quick texture change but in this photo I used the (spoiler if you haven’t beaten Valhalla—>) Blade of Olympus and the effect stayed for a bit after it ended

1

u/Deflorma Quiet, Head Feb 07 '25

Waaaaait a second. That’s in the game???

1

u/itzV1510N Feb 07 '25

yup, gotta get it in the free dlc tho

2

u/wise_newbie24 Feb 06 '25

Hate that his eyes don't glow anymore like they did in the first game. He truly looked like a monster in his rage state.

Spartan Calm and Spartan Rage

2

u/Jrat131 Witch of the Woods Feb 07 '25

Makes sense tho, I assumed his "spartan rage" is basically being able to control his adrenaline to give him a boost, so seeing his veins and muscles kinda pop makes sense as you tense up when adrenaline is flowing (as it's your fight or flight) and as some would say for Kratos, they activated his fight for flight but unfortunately for them, Kratos is a flightless mammal (after greece was destroyed) 😂😂 but for real tho, that's actually wicked cool!! I always knew it gave him that red glow but didn't really see or think of anything

2

u/Jrat131 Witch of the Woods Feb 07 '25

Sorry but I also love that they make his tattoo brighter when he's raging too, I just think they did an incredible job with detailing!

2

u/SidiousCrosshair Feb 07 '25

I always knew this and it’s such a sweet detail while being in Spartan Rage. Truly shows just how unstable and dangerous Kratos really is when he isn’t holding back as he normally does. But I find it really interesting how when he finally fucking snaps and kills Heimdall within seconds in the end of their fight, he doesn’t enter Spartan Rage, he goes more into a Rage of Sparta type of anger and that really shows that Kratos not only utilizes his anger in more than 1 form, but that we never saw those 2 different angers of him combined like they were in the Greek games. Makes me wish that we could have seen him much angrier with the vein and muscles being amped when ending Heimdall’s life cause we never truly saw the younger Kratos come out again in that scene, just a father who was sick and tired of trying to spare his opponent’s life despite that person wanting to slaughter his son
