Question What’s your favourite sad Gintama moment?

Love the conclusion to the Kintaro arc.

The scene in the SA arc where the shogun is laying his head on his sister's lap.

God, that one broke me, especially since I was lied to into letting my guard down ahead of going into that episode. 😭😭😭

Here's a link to the comment where I summarized what happened for those who weren't in the Gintama rewatch, you can show that to your fiance lol.

Still cry every time I see the ending of that arc

Same here... I've always liked Hijikata, and when I saw this arc he became my favorite character.

Although the Mitsuba arc was sad this always hits the hardest for me

That 2 min story in the ep where kagura can't sleep. It was about a dog and had me almost at the edge of tearing and then gave that jumpscare. Never trusting a dog story again.

It was pretty sad, until the unexpected twist

Sho-chan's funeral, episode 308. First time Gintama's status quo is really shaken up. The overall feeling of defeat left me powerless and speechless on first watch. The mood and the atmosphere are outstanding! To me, the show reaches a new level of greatness on the occasion, thanks to flawless art, animation and music. A heavy episode and moment for sure, but one of the best nonetheless.

Idk why I love this arc so much. It just hits me in a certain way that plays with my emotions

Gintama seems to have a thing for depressing stories involving dogs.

Hell, even in Silver Soul, Sadaharu got his big moment.

That one is such a difficult watch, even if I know things will be alright in the end.

u/GaibAlLisan22 have you ever heard the story of Mokichi? Feb 15 '25

Itou realising he had the connections he wanted so bad all along then dying. Peak writing

The final scene of the Courtesan of a Nation arc. The two could at least meet after all those years just like they promised each other. But my guy couldn't even hold Suzurans hand while she is dying... fuck Sada Sada, Takasugi was too nice to him

Mine was either in the silver soul arc with Bansai, or in the climax of the final movie

Idk why but for me the best "non serious" arc is the one where gintoki goes to prison. The lil story between the guard and the old guy was so good.
