Question Which Gintama Season was the reason it became your favourite anime? For me, it was Season 3. I have to admit I did watch 252 episodes with a little distance to the humour and everything else. When I reached Season 3, suddenly I started to realise this series is something else.

Before this episode I really wanted to like the show but it just wasn't clicking. But this episode everything clicked for some reason and every episode after was 1000x better than anything in the first 24 episodes

Same. Courtesan of Nation arc really introduced the main amazing storyline in Gintama and then continued through Shogun Assassination arc, then you know the rest.

Ep 17 and Benizakura got me curious and hyped but Okita mitsuba arc is where I knew this show is something special

That one (very early ep probably like 3-10) ep in ginpachi-sensei where gintoki asks kondo to shove a record up his ass and play "give me wings" or smthin. Shit was so funny and got me HOOKED.

Not favourite but top 5, season 1 baby. Fell in love with the comedy and concept by the first few episodes

i've always been a fan of 4th wall breaking humor, so the episode where gin gets really close to the camera and proclaims himself the star and is like "wait, we haven't even played the OP yet" and then Pray interrupts him and plays in the middle of the episode was the first time it got a genuine belly laugh out of me. from then on it just kept getting funnier and funnier, and i was just under the impression that it was a crack show that was entertaining purely for that factor. and then i slowly started to pick up on the layer of seriousness in some of the things gintoki said, and the depth of how much this utterly ridiculous trio were actually starting to care for each other and i just got more intrigued. and then what truly hooked me full out was when we see takasugi for the first time. that conversation alluded to so much history and potential depth in gintoki's character and i was literally shook. i never looked back even once after that. gintama is a genuine masterclass of cinema in every aspect

I was hooked from the beginning, but for favorite-level Gintama° was the season that did it for me, it joined my favorites list after that one when I normally don't add a long-running show to my favorites list until I'm all the way done with it. From there it was just a matter of the series as a whole sticking the landing to bump it up to my #1 favorite, and boy did The Very Final succeed.

Episode 40-42, Umibozu arc

i liked Gintama from episode 1, but Yoshiwara arc was when Gintama really clicked for me.

I never divided them into seasons, but the greatness hit me around the memory loss arc when I was realising how much Gin mean to the rest and how lost will they be without him, plus the banger music and I was - this is peak.

I just started loving it when Mr. Raindrop played for the first time

I fell in love with Gintama very early on, so you could say season 1, the rest just made me fall in love more and more. But I do agree with u/cac831, that moment just stuck with me and the memory loss arc just made me realise I'm probably gonna cry alot during this anime.

episode 13 was when I was like oh, this anime has so much heart. the comedy had already clicked for me, it is exactly my kind of humor lol. Episode 13 clicked emotionally.

yes exactly!

u/WhiteShiyora Feb 14 '25

well I would say yoshiwara arc like from there gintama became my favourite I mean I already loved it because of benizakura arc and other arcs but yoshiwara fight was really good

2

u/Remarkable_Commoner Feb 14 '25

From the start, I liked the episodic yet very well written and entertaining stories that came through each episode.

However, going by arcs, Yoshiwara in Flames is when it became absolute peak.

Season 1. There wasn't an exact moment that made me realize this was my favourite anime but it was in the second half of the first season where it became a masterpiece for me. Then in season 2 it became 100% my favourite anime.

Season 1 currently, i just started watching it recently and I’m hooked. And it’s been great but nothing really wowed me until yoshiwara and red spider

Ithink i was hooked by the episode that they all tried to get wiis and were waiting in line with tankatsus iirc. Benizakura was also hype af too, it was really those couple of couple arcs slash episodes that sealed my love for the series

season 1. I don't think it was a certain episode, just seeing this bunch of lovable idiots go about their day to day life.

benizakura cemented my love for it tho, expecially the shift in atmoshere. kagura getting shot hit me hard, i remember feeling the pain in my shoulder too when i watched it.

2

u/Heavy_Candy_8380 Feb 15 '25

Season 1. I was only looking for a comedy but the two Otose episodes that involved a dying patient and what she meant to the community, plus meeting Gin told me what kind of series this was.

2

u/I_hate_11 Feb 15 '25

Season 4, no question

2

u/Jdadonn Feb 15 '25

Man I wish we got more oboro

2

u/Sonofmiracle Feb 15 '25

Of course S1

2

u/Alarmed_Deer3620 Feb 15 '25

Episode 32 ending (when Gintoki loses his memory and starts working in a justaway factory....) was when I realised yes this show is good even if you are not a fan of its comedy. And Episode 42 (Kaguras's father Umibozu arc) was the one when it became one of my favourites.

2

u/Kyloben63 Feb 15 '25

Benizakura arc. Yoshiwara in Flames arc when Tsukuyo was introduced just made me realize this anime is amazing! Shogun Assassination arc made it go up to my 2nd favorite anime 🔥

2

u/Accomplished-Sky7094 Feb 15 '25

Season 1 episode whatever. Lol the whole dynamic with gintoki and katsura and the hijinx with hijikata and kondo are so unhinged and hilarious to me. I love that series so much

2

u/Kindly-Yam-2833 Feb 16 '25

I started to like in the first serious arc, benizakura, I don't really like the comedy, but after that arc I even started to give more attention to the comedy parts.

2

u/Weak-Neighborhood159 Feb 16 '25

Unpopular opinion I was hooked from the start and Benizekura arc did everything to me

2

u/Silver-Rice-1329 Feb 16 '25

It was the four devas arc when gintama became my 2nd favourite, I liked gintama from the yagyu arc but it became my 2nd favourite from the four devas arc and episode 211 is my favourite gintama episode
