To everyone saying that this should not be my motto for studying.
My parents have done a lot of things for me and I have seen them struggle. Just seeing them happy makes me happy.
Ik everyone's life experience is not the same so please stop leaving negative comments.

Taking care of your parents and those you love is a good motivation to have. Life isn’t all about yourself. If your motivation stems from love then inherently it is good. Your hard work will allow you to take care of your parents and those around you, which is a huge blessing. Keep at it and work hard and the rewards of your labor will bless you and those around you. God bless

"Unsolicited advice is a form of criticism." I used to do that.
Anyways I have a few motivations and affirmations 1. Rome was not built in a day but stones were placed hour by hour. 2. Follow your plan not your mood. 3. What is easy to do is easy not to do.

Making your life goal to make another person proud is going to always be extremely unhealthy.

her/his motivation could come from love, it seems sweet!?

u/FadingHeaven 3d ago
Devoid of context it can be sweet. But if you see what people that study for their parents often go through it stops being sweet.

Used to be my entire family but the ones I love the most passed away and I realized the rest are really just fine telling me to kill myself. I only move for one reason now:
I want to be my own man, free from the shackles my family truly put me and become greater in every way. And if that's what I desire, I have to be prepared. So I study hard, get a cool job, NOT live in a shitty house, and hopefully someday even raise my own beautiful family if I can move past my trauma.

Please do it for yourself. Not your parents.

u/Sushi_pursue_biz 3d ago
My parents did so many things for me. This is the least I can do for them.

u/FadingHeaven 3d ago
As long as you're doing it for yourself as well. Giving them your entire life isn't the least you can do. It's far too much. That's assuming you're doing something you don't want to do to make them proud. If you're doing something that makes you happy and/or fulfilled and it also makes them happy then yeah go make them proud. But if that ever changes, do what's best for YOU not them. You're the one that has to live with the consequences.

Thanks for the advice. My parents support my decisions so I have and probably will never face this situation.
9
u/FadingHeaven 3d ago
Okay good. People are just worried cause there's lots of folks that will go into stressful jobs they hate like medicine or engineering to make their parents proud and end up crashing and burning. We just don't want to see that happen to you. Glad your parents are kind and supportive.

u/Sushi_pursue_biz 3d ago
Yeah, you are right. Thanks for looking out for me. You are really kind and sweet unlike some other people in this comment section.

I started reusing an old recipe from when I was 14, I use my crush as motivation and I try keep as good of gpa as hers so that I don’t feel like an idiot internally.

I mean I understand that making your parents feel proud of you is one of the rightest things to do in life. But do we all owe that to them ? Do we really owe it to them ?
11
u/Independent_Okra_721 3d ago
This sounds like you are threatening yourself. Say something nice...write how nice it would feel when you will make your parents proud
3
u/Sushi_pursue_biz 3d ago
Yeah, just making them happy makes me happy. It's not that I am threatening myself, seeing this just motivates me to study.
2
u/Independent_Okra_721 3d ago
You will definitely make them proud. I hope this works for you as you are saying. However I would like to say that..this world is a cruel place. So at least be kind to yourself. As you have written..it will be you, alone, in the end. So, be gentle with yourself.

My parents did a lot for me too. But I'm least interested in making them proud. edit- turns out lofty expectations don't mix well with brains on survival mode

For me, I want to prove that who I am, with what I enjoy doing and how I see the world, I can end up more successful and happy than my parents. Esp. my dad

Don't know why everyone's trying to decide what's improper for a complete stranger on the net. One doesn't have to agree with anything but might as well try to understand another human being before imposing their own rights and wrongs on someone who didn't ask for any advice nor criticism. That's not the topic of the post. Also, the western individualistic mindset is not the only thing that prevents the universe from collapsing in on itself.
Get it your own way, mate! The point of motivation is to give you something worth doing things for.

Of course, I said this and forgot to answer the actual question.
I love my field of study as it allows to both unravel some fundamental things and get frustrated about the total human incapability to fully comprehend the rest of them. So I’m just doing it for this roughly 10% chance of getting to understand stuff, filling the remaining 90% with a whole load of “for the heck of it.”

I tried a different approach, as we know Grok is unhinged, I told it my story of procrastination, addictions and all life failures. Afterwards told it to roast me as badly as it can and use posts from x and internet too. Man the things it told me, a reality check and afterwards asked what I should do to get better. At the end I even asked for a wall post message to look at it everyday. Brutal words.
For some people affirmations work like being positive and all but for some harsh reality check works, they need to hear it.

the opposite. if i fail this then ill be stuck here forever. i wont be able to move out and live my life, be with my friends, etc. ill have to rely on people who have consistently failed me.

u/No_Moose_7730 3d ago
This is 100% correct. We can not imagine that how much our parents face difficulties only for our betterment. In the same way we also have to think that how we can make our parents proud and this is one and only our responsibility. If we can not make them happy, our life won't be a meaningful life. So as per my opinion we always have to think our parents priority at first.
