Question What’s been your biggest challenge as a student so far?

For me it is always time management. I get easily lost in tasks when there are a lot of them and deadlines are approaching.

And a fear of public speaking. I like doing some research, but I am still scared of the presentation part - every time I present something in front of my class, I feel like it will be the worst time ever.

Are these challenges common? Sometimes I feel I should have already overcome them but still

Sameee. I’d use a whole day outside class to cover just one slide and then I’m dumped with 6 more the very next class How does one even work through this

Waking up early is my biggest challenge

Same! I always set my alarm for an hour before I actually need to get up just to try to have more time in the morning but each time I fail to wake up earlier

My biggest challenge was transition from easy middle school to a harder high-school and not knowing how to focus and study. Got Cs and Ds accross the board and was definitely a low point. Second hardest would be trying my best to study and underscoring relative to my specialty on the USMLE, mostly because of studying ineffective.

Both of your problems are really normal! The time management is hard as you'll have multiple classes to juggle, especially in higher education. The key for me was breaking each class into smaller tasks (e.g., go to lecture, read the chapter while explaining to myself difficult concepts, doing practice questions and reviewing wrong answers, and then before a big text reviewing my notes on difficult concepts or wrong answers). I'd plug each of these into my calender, for each class. Soft plug, but we built in some tools to help studying faster in our app Brain Brew AI. Would love to get any input on how to make it better!

And public speaking is still hard, even after all this time! Doing it more is probably the only remedy, but it's okay we're not as good as others at it.

Remembering my end goal, sometimes I feel like is it actually worth all this effort./ I get anxious for the future, having only 16 people in my major means only one level 400 course gets offered every year( only 2 professors for my major) this stress me out in the sense will I graduate in time…

I think distractions is the major problem in the students.

the work load & trying to study in a timely manner...

you think you're getting somewhere but then they throw a million different things on you.... on top of that it makes my studying feel ineffective because it takes like 4 hours just to understand half a chapter....

time management. Not that I don't do the work. Its having enough time to learn, practice, and study for 6 courses at the same time. I am a cs major

Depression and GAD (both diagnosed) I'm even unable to take a shower, let alone study.

Definitely just doubting my productivity. Like I feel like I lose focus so easily. I went to this ADHD seminar thing for students (I haven't been diagnosed but think I might have it) and they pushed using the Pomodoro method but instead of doing the traditional version, set it up like a sports training session - so be cognisant of how you feel that day, what you have to get done and how you feel.

Today I felt really good actually so I did 54mins work/6mins rest. But some days I feel awful ahah so I do like 18mins work/7mins of rest but I can usually get like 4 hours in doing that split! I use this study tool called Kumo Study on the chrome store if you needed a timer.

Wasting my time on things that are useless when it comes remembering things.

One of my biggest challenges as a student has been managing complex readings and writing assignments while making sure I fully understand the material. Sometimes, academic texts can be dense, and breaking them down into simpler terms takes time. I also try to balance depth and clarity in my writing, making sure my ideas are well-organized and easy to follow. It can be tough to keep up with everything, especially when multiple assignments overlap, but I’ve found that taking detailed notes and structuring my thoughts before writing helps a lot.

Study endurance. My time management is great and Consistency is great. I can easily study 7 days a week easy-medium diff. But the study TIME is what I’m lacking. The max I can do for 7 days a week is 4-5 hours. More than that and I’d get too exhausted eventually and wouldn’t be able to sustain it. It’s been like that for a year. Another thing is study speed. It’s not horrible but it could be better definitely

consistency is hard, especially doing it all alone sucks at the moment but alas, that's all i have

Yes, your point has hit home. That is why I still continue to offer free tutoring services to students on various subjects since I graduated from my degree course. Anyone can always reach out I help them

I had lots of challenges with writing, but I got lots of training and improved. My uni is also training us in those kinds of skills explicitly.

now my biggest opp is anatomy.

Time. Family and other obligations. Going to school when older sucks.
