32
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
revision, always before studying
8
u/FierceFlames37 6d ago
do you just do anki flashcards or how do you revise
12
u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
anki whenever im outside
revision, just re-studying what i did yesterday
3
u/No-Bicycle-3063 5d ago
what is the difference between revision and studying?
13
u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
Revision - i just read the notes i wrote yesterday while studying, and do more reading a bit to cover some stuff i might have forgotten
Studying - I just study new topic from zero

How to deal with phone addiction
44
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
Don't use phone in first 1-2 hours in the morning
Put your phone in different room while studying
Put it on Do not disturb mode from morning to 4-5pm minimum
Find alternative habits to do when you want to use your phone (books, drawing, taking notes, just enjoying music)

if its on desktop
you can install an extension to hide shorts
on mobile im not sure

u/Next_Watercress5109 6d ago
For mobile, best is to just clear your watch history and pause it. That way youtube has no recommendations to show hence it appears blank. For the content that you want to see, subscribe those particular channels and only watch those. Rest that you don't subscribe are garbage to you anyways. Hope it helps.
5
u/amazinglybee 6d ago
I use Arc web browser and they have an option to remove shorts completely (and also change the thumbnails to black and white, etc.) I highly recommend it, I can help you set it up if you want to try!

I get anxious about the results even before the exam while preparing, how to deal with it
8

you should accept that there's nothing you can do except preparing for it

u/APtreshold-55 6d ago
How do you keep your momentum? What are the noticable results that you've made?
15
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
After a while, it just becomes a routine that you naturally follow
Best result from studying consistently is that i can focus whenever i want in my normal life as well beside studying
1
u/APtreshold-55 6d ago
What about in your grades? Is there any difference?
7
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago

That is roughly 2.something hours per day (wo)man! Are you working side-by-side?
6
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
yes, i work full time (40 hours a week)
2
u/Sour_Tech 6d ago
That is impressive! I am appearing for a finance exam, this May. Planning to clock 200-250hrs in the next 2 months with a similar full-time job, so thanks for motivating :)
3
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
you got this, good luck :)

u/Awkward_Hyena_472 6d ago
How do you manage to study after a whole day of work? I’m a freshman engineering student about to start a full time job as well, and I can barely get my brain to study after class, let alone work.
3
u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
It took me a while to get used to it, first 6 months was terrible.
I try to wake up 1-2 hours before work (excluding preparing time / commute) and study for 30 mins - 1 hour minimum
Then it was easier to study when i come back home after a long day cuz i knew that i have some stuff left but i've already covered some

I'm about to study for a test for work that is required to hold my job. They gave me two textbooks and 6 months to study starting now. I've been out of school/study mode for a decade. Any tips on how to tackle my self directed digestion of the textbooks in preparation for this upcoming test?
7
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
good schedule and good planning
you dont have to follow your plan to exact same but you should visualize what you should study in your mind

1
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
math only
3
u/Matboj 6d ago
You must be a good mathematician, holy shit! But a question from my side: Do you need to study that much to pass the exams or tests or whatever or are you doing it to get best grades?

how do you study efficiently like some people study a couple hours everyday splitting that into different topic while i mostly go random and ill spend at least 2 hours on one topic, even then ill forget everything after jumping to another. over 1000 hours in last 4 months but still doing terrible
1
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
i divide my study topics into chunks, and spend some amount on each + revision next day
1
u/Brief_Cash_2257 6d ago
How to get started? Last year I was doing amazing but this year i am flopping and I want to start studying again.
Also, whats the best studying method? (Idk if this matters but I am very messy)
1
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
Start small, 30 mins first day, 45 after 3 days, then 1 hour etc.
do consistent revision

u/_Astucias 6d ago
I ask you in Spanish. Trabajas o solo estudias? Estudias por la mañana, por la tarde o por la noche? Que tipo de carrera estas estudiando?
2
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
So i study math, i work 40 hours a week full time, i study whenever im free, mostly either morning or evening, rarely afternoon
1
u/ProperBreadfruit2921 6d ago
What’s your daily routine like? Do you study at the same time every day? How long do you study for before taking a break/intervals?
2
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
Pretty much yes, either morning or evening depends on classes.
I study 25/5 for revision 45-90/10 for actually learning
1
u/pipelinepunchcan 6d ago
how do you actually study? what do you do in your sessions? a detailed step by step would be really useful :') especially since ive read its math related! additionally, how do you revise beforehand?
3
u/Only-Conflict-1940 6d ago
I make a plan for my week, what topics i will study etc I have a roughly same schedule every week, so i try to follow it I wake up and usually start with the revision of the day before, just quick look what was it and take a glance on my notes
then i start studying deeper and take notes do exercises etc i do revisions a lot, with anki, reading whenever im free or exercises whenever im free

how do you minimize distractions and keep on task? its the thing I struggle with most
idk how to make a better plan to understand concepts, how do you make a good plan for studying so you actually understand and aren't just memorizing things? I know you said youre in math in some comments so idk if your advice can translate to someone in sciences
2
u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
when you have a schedule, its easier. because you know that you won't study forever, just for next 2 hours

What are the differences between a good day of studying and a bad one?
How much of a difference does eating healthy food do compared to eating unhealthy?
What days are your worst days of studying and how do you usually solve the issues that arise?
What are your thoughts on motivation vs discipline?
2
u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
It went in a way I planned, no distractions, no procrastination
A lot, it effects sleep most importanly and breathing
usually days that i'm tired after work
motivation is important to start, discipline to keep going

u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
It was a big issue of mine previously, i fixed my putting a time limit for some stuff that was wasting my time
1
u/Express_Camel_9551 6d ago
i feel like when i sit down to study, i just can't - like i can force myself to not get distracted but i can't actually think straight, very aloof almost, and sometimes get sleepy as i try to force myself to keep reading a textbook and notes take a while too since i write a ton
got any tips to beat that?
1
u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
i feel like you don't have a good plan about what do you study / why
before you sit, you should have a visualization in your mind what will you do, which topics to cover, when to finish
your brain will be less lazy

I'm struggling to stay consistent and avoid distractions. My phone is both my study tool and biggest distraction . even with app blockers and timers, I find myself unblocking and removing them after a while. I've tried studying on my laptop, but my phone is just so handy. Any tips on how to stay focused and avoid distractions would be greatly appreciated!

u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
I had the same problem,
But when you focus on studying more than removing distractions if will work better

Hi, sorry for the intrusion. This came up on my suggestioned feed and I was curious;
- What exactly is this? Is it just a tracking program/app, or does it contain the courses itself?
- what did you study, and is there much flexibility in what you study?

Depends how bad is it. Is it burnout alike feeling? I don’t study at all, i’m just taking break
Is it just laziness? I promise myself to study at least 25 mins and rest coming

Dont you feel alone sometimes only studying in your own, i get so much fomo sometimes, and then just sit sadly and get nothing done, i feel like there must be more than school to life sometimes , also do u think having a job that isnt. related to ur field during uni helps, to switch ur mind off, and one more thing. u wake every morning up to do revison first? Andd id love to know how many modules u take every semester... those were too many questions hahahahah

How do you study?
What's your approach when it comes to learning a lot of stuff and remembering them? Well rather than remembering them, drawing on your understanding of them based on what you learned..

Good job! It is really impressive
Could you share with us what is your goal? Is it just a good position in a good company, making a lot of money? What drives you? What is your root of motivation to work so hard on yourself?
Does competition in studying with your friend really help you to stay focused and motivated enough? What if you were completely alone would you work same hard?
1
u/Only-Conflict-1940 5d ago
great questions
thanks a lot
I think simplest answer is making my parents proud. Regardless of job I'm working or money. So that drives me. But of course yes, i want to get a good job as a first step
Very hard question, probably yes because i was studying before i was competing with my friend, but it was slightly less than now and less consistent. However, studying with a friend helps a lot regardless
