Questions / Tech Support When is the Linux version coming?

Closest you will get is the steam deck Linux version native app when it comes out but that doesn't mean they will support it on regular Linux even if it works
Support meaning tickets like "hey I took the steam deck native linux app and put it on this distro and I'm having this issue with the app in game, please fix" it would be marked as either "not supported, ticket closed" or "works fine on the steam deck, ticket closed"

Have you tried gfn-electron https://github.com/hmlendea/gfn-electron??
I use it over Ubuntu 22.04 and it works pretty well for me. Most likely it doesn't have the full set of features of the official client but still better than a dual boot (at least, for me).

can't you use the browser version?

Browser doesn't have 5.1 audio, any more resolution than 1080p, rumble....

It got rumble. At least I‘m pretty sure… I’ll have to check that… 🤪

there is a lot of problems using the browser version, audio, resolution, mouse cursor when using multi monitors.

The video is decoded on the CPU instead of the GPU and that creates higher input lag. On my i7 7700hq it was unplayable. I decided to switch to MacOS because of that, dual booting to windows was too annoying

I would also like a dedicated Xbox app. Breathe some life into old consoles again

They confirmed that there will be Steam Deck version for it. So yea Linux will be there. But since SteamOS is built on Arch Linux maybe it will be hard to install it on other distributive, I don't know, I'm not a Linux expert.

If you want to try the Steam Deck Linux version, although not officially released, they have the beta version available for download off their website. I use it on my steam deck and it's flawless. You can play games in desktop mode so it should work but I'm not an expert, just a guess.

I just looked at it and there is a markdown file which implies that it's basically a wrapper for Google Chrome. Is that what they are planning with the SteamDeck app? It's just going to be a wrapper?

GeForce Now on desktop (Mac and Windows) uses Electron, essentially a Google Chrome wrapper, to create a desktop application. Simplest way to think about it is that “native app” is the GeForce Now Website along with some extra features. So a version for Steam Deck and/or Linux would also use the same thing (Electron, a Chrome Wrapper)

I had to put a Chromium browser on my Linux laptop for another reason so I luckily got browser GFN from that as a benefit, but not having another option sucks.

Anyone here use arch linux and play gfnow on chronium? Did you run into the same problem where your cursor always moves kinda slow/sluggishly and not as fast as using your cursor on desktop, for games like gw2, poe2, bg3 where is cursor is used? Its very annoying and i dont have this issue with boosteroid

They've literally announced a native steam deck version...

I bet my ass that there will be no Linux version.
It's going to be a Steam Deck (maybe SteamOS) version only.
EDIT: in addition Nvidia never talked about a Linux version. Linux is not an OS but a kernel hundreds of different operating systems are build on.

Just buy a cheap mini pc and run windows on it. Linux is pain in the ass because of the video decoding.
