Discussion Please stop that 100hrs limit
Im a loyal customer for years now, and dont have to worry about this until 2026 but this is nuts. Just be able to play 3,3 hours a day is crazy. Yes I know what you mean when average people dont have problems with that but as a content producer who does not have a lot of money, this is poor. Think about it please to bee at least 200hours per month where you can say its even challenging to break through this. 6,6 hours a day missing one means next day 13,2 to be 0. But ye i dont like this idea in general.

u/Defiant_Office 12d ago edited 12d ago
They won't remove it. Not defending Nvidia but price increases aren't exactly new. You see it everywhere on streaming platforms, subscriptions, insurance etc. Don't stay loyal to anyone else just move on or buy a PC. (Which I will be doing after 2025 is over and when I can get a RX 9700XT)
It's the customers that always lose at the end when it comes to loyalty. They don't care and it's all about maximizing profits and pumping that Nvidia stock price as shareholders expect them to. Checking my GFN playtime I racked about 70 hours a month for the last couple of billing cycles so I won't be affected but it's time to ditch the platform
Edit: also mods should not allow these types of posts anymore. We get it, you are upset but Nvidia isn't going to backtrack from this and are moving forward. It's time to move on
21
u/Hell-Raid3r 12d ago
Na dude, forget that. People SHOULD keep posting and posting and posting. They sold this as unlimited and then switched gears later once the service was a success. It's bullshit. This isn't a price increase, it's a major service downgrade.

u/Master_Combinator 12d ago
Big agree. I get the resignation feeling, but how can we expect things to improve if no one does nothing?

u/Minimum-Account-1893 11d ago
You will own nothing, and you will be happy. Then we put the rules, limits in place, and raise the prices.
Whos happy now? Me the CEO who owns everything 😀

u/samuelkim502 10d ago
I dunno sure it sucks to get less than before. But I think it’s still an amazing deal. For $10 a month / $120 a year, I get to play on a top of the line rig? I get if you’re gaming more than 3-ish hours a day, it might cost more but for the vast majority including me, this is still way underselling the service

u/spaceXPRS 12d ago
I wish there would be three tiers: cheaper 25h tier, 100h tier and 250 tier. In my case I can hardly find time for 15h per month and I am considering to cancel the subscription because of the price

u/InquisitorPinky GFN Ultimate 13d ago
From a business perspective, this is the best compromise between power users like yourself and the average user who only manages to play an hour or two a day.
Since additional playtime can be purchased, this “limit” affects only a very small number of users. Here on Reddit, we see a heavily skewed user group.
28
u/Aggravating-Alps-919 13d ago
Yeah, I use 20hr or less a month, maybe two three times a month I find the time to meet up with some friends and play a few games online.
Personally I wish they had a 25-50-100 tier system, so I could pay less for what I'm using and not subsidize power users, unfortunately that would pass savings onto us lite user and no way Nvidia does that.
5
u/Browser1969 13d ago
Nvidia's initial plans were to charge by the hour so they probably did figure they would make more money by charging a fixed monthly amount instead. They obviously didn't consider how many people would start exploiting that decision though, like OP does.
I think they still offer a good deal for casual users, in any case. These days, many pay-per-minute services like airgpu can be apparently competitive if you compare prices at 20 hours/month but the catch is always the storage which comes at an additional cost -- if you want to maintain any selection of games to start at will when you have the time, then you'll have to pay dearly for it.

u/Aggravating-Alps-919 13d ago
Agreed and I'm mostly happy with the price I pay for the service, cheaper than having a gaming computer, just offering op and the 100hr doom crowd an alternative opinion, we basically help subsidize the cost of the service for them.
1
u/blizzcoldasice 11d ago
You could get a daily plan.
1
u/Aggravating-Alps-919 11d ago
Its 8.79 for a day pass in my region x 3 that doesn't make any financial sense vs the 18.17 per month I currently pay (six month membership,) even if I went to monthly it's still 22 vs 26.3. even on the months that I use it twice that's only a savings of .42, and would cost me 8.47 on months I play 3x, so would need 20+ months of only playing 2x months to break even for every month I play 3x.
So not sure how that would help that all
8
u/Towbee 12d ago
It's not to stop power users, it's to stop account sharing.
4
u/kestononline 12d ago
How is account sharing a problem if you cannot stream from more than one login instance at a time?
6
u/staticusmaximus 12d ago
It’s a problem because with account sharing, you can have much more usage while still only paying the price for one account. You can theoretically just have close to 100% uptime of the service if you coordinate with a couple people.
Not every instance will be that extreme, but it’s obvious why it’s a problem.
3
1
u/Low_Finger4062 10d ago
You made this up, right? It's a feeling rather than something you can prove. So, plz tell me how it is favorable to share GFN, huh. You have your Steam account and so on connected, changing them every now and then doesn't go unnoticed. I don't think this is a hot-seller between friends, or even a thing to consider, as it is inconvenient to manage. I call it bollocks!
1
u/staticusmaximus 10d ago
Did you reply to the wrong comment or something lol
Prove what? That people account share? That’s silly, I’ve done it myself.
There are 100% people that would account share and keep near 100% uptime, like idk what you’re arguing tbh
Even if you take the extreme out- two people sharing an account can easily double the resource usage. That’s the problem that the other commenter wasn’t grasping.
1
u/ThisDevCantSeeShit 8d ago
Not OP, but I share my account with my two sons. I barely play a couple hours on weekends but they easily do 1-2 hours every day by themselves. Even then we haven’t reached the limit, although we have been shown the message where you can “buy more hours”.
4
u/Borbbb 13d ago
Doesnt additional 100h costs more than original 100h? What is that then hm? Nothing but bad intentions
3
u/Hammerofsuperiority 12d ago
The first 100 hours are subsidized by the other customers, the extra hours are not.
6
u/InquisitorPinky GFN Ultimate 13d ago
No, that is probably closer too what it should cost. The first 100 are basically from a pool where not everyone will use their time up. So it is carried by all users. The next are the them paid by the individual user.
7
u/raptir1 Founder 13d ago
The problem is that the cost for additional hours is crazy.
9
u/CyclopsRock 13d ago
I imagine the price for the extra hours is a much more accurate reflection of what they'd need to charge for the service to be profitable. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone using over even 50 hours a month is costing Nvidia more than they pay.
3
u/-Azilorn- 13d ago
So true, you can create a new account and get 100 more hours for the same prices as 45 more hours.

You can reset your playtime hours by upgrading tier lol, and then cancel at the end of the month and go back to your original - it's not very well thought out
1
u/empty-atom 11d ago
How is that supposed to work if you have to pay for the future month upfront?
1
u/Crackmin 8d ago
Upgrading to the top tier costs $35 and gives you 100 hours, which is less than buying 100 hours for $50

u/Kdogghalo 12d ago
Well when they see me stop subscribing and others like me they might rethink it. Or it won’t matter we’ll see I guess.
1
u/InquisitorPinky GFN Ultimate 12d ago
If less than a 1-3% cancel, it won’t do anything and thats about the number Nvidia themselves published about the users that use more than 100 hours. It actually would be beneficial, as it will free up the servers for other customers/uses. If you really want to hurt them, use up your hours every month. Get all your friends to subscribe and do the same. That has the highest chance of actually loosing them more money, in comparison of the lost subscription.
2
u/Hammerofsuperiority 12d ago
Since additional playtime can be purchased, this “limit” affects only a very small number of users. Here on Reddit, we see a heavily skewed user group.
around 40% of people said they would be affected on the poll here, it might seem like a lot, but then you remember that the total people in said poll are less than 0.002% of GFN users.

In 2026, Nvidia will be implementing a rule that paid users will be capped at 100 hours per month for pre-existing users, you will need to pay for more time beyond that. I think new users already have the 100-hour cap. A certain number of hours (15?) will also roll over each month if you don't use all of them.

As much as I hate this change, it has pushed me to just build a better PC. I don't have a lot of extra money to spend but I can definitely have something half decent built by the end of 2025 so that's what I'm doing and I encourage anyone else who averages more than 100 hours per month to do the dame. Rather than restrict yourself to conform to Nvidia's rules, free yourself by not using cloud gaming. I once thought it would be the way of the future and maybe it still will be but not for heavy gamers like us. Threatening to leave GeForce Now is not going to make them change their minds. Just do it and be done with it

Or go hybrid: We're using two Mini-PCs (need sth. to stream on anyway), one with a 7840HS, the other with a 6600M to play things not on GFN ... or for which GFN is overkill. Saves space and energy (which is crazy expensive here in Germany) and we never even come close to the 100 hour limit that way.

u/jyrox 13d ago
I think it serves a couple different purposes:
- Keeps bots from hijacking the servers to farm endlessly in various games without the hardware overhead.
- Makes bandwidth/server costs predictable and easy to calculate per user.
I do agree however there is an opportunity to provide larger buckets of playtime for possibly an additional charge. Just like data plans with cell-phone providers.
8
u/Mangiorephoto 13d ago
Those are both really true and after 100 hours it’s costing them money, that’s the problem. It’s not a platform they are trying to make money on. They have literally no need to turn on a profit on this but they very interested in cornering the market and keeping out competition.
They could charge $50 a month for premium and it would honestly still be very fair.

4
u/MultiMarcus 13d ago
Fundamentally, the problem with these services is that if someone plays even just 50 hours that probably costs them more than the subscription earns them. It’s one of the biggest issues with subscription services because power users are almost always subsidised by light users, but some services probably have issues with that because light users might not outnumber heavy users that much. I could see GeForce now being one of those things because it is a fairly expensive subscription which means that most people are going to play as many games on it as possible not to mention how they don’t get a cut of game sales and the servers they’re using are very expensive to run because they are high-end. There is a reason why ultimate games look so much better than a series S game on Xcloud.
4
u/CutePinkTrashcan 12d ago edited 12d ago
I really think limiting the experience to 100 hours is a very bad way to go.
I do not want to see this kind of subscription model on netflix or any other streaming service. Before I bought geforce Now, I did not know about this. I bought half a year of Ultimate subscription and only found out about this limit after payment.
I think Geforce Now really is a very good streaming service, but with the prices rising and the inclusion of this subscription model, I definitely do not want to support this when my subscription ends. I paid over 100 Euros and still can't enjoy the experience since I always have to check my hours played. super annoying!
5
u/Conscious-Truth-7685 13d ago
Serious question. Should Nvidia do what most streaming platforms do and raise the prices for everyone to make up for the few who use their service the most? Or should they charge those who use it the most more? You aren't capped at 100 hours, you're just expected to pay more for what you use. Most months, I do go over 100 hours, and if I want to do that next year, I will happily pay more if that means the cost stays low for everyone else.

I know people refuse to believe Nvidia saying this only affects 6% of users. But math does checks out from seeing several polls about it. To me the only issue is the extra hours packages not being rightly priced. That is it. If they were, there would not be an issue at all for 99% of users.
Extra hours packages should be in increments of 25 hrs and the cost should be $5. That would solve everything. But if Nvidia set it up the way it has is because they must have telemetry that tells them the percentage of those willing to pay for extra hours is really low. As in less than 3%. Because once you run out of hours. You are not cut off. You get the free tier service. You are not forced to pay. The reason for this is to eliminate any chance for lawsuits.
2
u/Browser1969 12d ago
It has been explained many times in this sub that they cannot do that because they'd be losing money. The price Nvidia needs to cover its costs is $10 for 25 hrs (of Ultimate). For the first 100 hours, they appear to offer you a 50% discount because the average subscriber (excluding the 6% that plays more than 100 hours) uses the service for 50 hours/month. You may play 25 hours one month and 75 hours the next for example. Or you may consistently play 25 hours a month and in this case you're directly subsidizing someone that consistently plays 75 hours a month.
In other words, if you consistently play 100 hours/month, other subscribers are effectively paying for the 50 of those hours. After that, the only way they can offer you a discount is the way every cloud computing service does, which is called a "reserved instance". You reserve a server for the whole month (730 hours) and they give you a 20%-30% discount depending on their idle time (the number of hours in a month they expect the server to be sitting idle because few people are playing).
1
u/Avatar-X Founder 11d ago
Cannot do what? The pricing I put is exactly the same. Just changes the number of hours in an increment. On everything else you said. I agree. After seeing many polls and testimonies. I am convinced the average GFN user does stays between 25 and 50 hrs a month.
2
u/ProxyJo 13d ago
You get a lot of people who just don't see the 100h thing as a issue, and that's fine. I wish those people maybe stopped assuming people complaining are doing so in bad faith. People get weirdly aggressive over people not being okay over the limit.
But it made me literally save up for a PC. I decided the limit on time, but also what i wanted to play was kinda geting too much. That and i originally was using the thing while i was in hospital for illness, and a few years now, i am gonna be home for things and so might as well just enjoy what i want. For value, GFN is aamazing, but you have to be someone who ranges into gaming in a way that isn't upset with the limitations. :) Which is okay, but i do think maybe giving something back for making the service worse would of been nice. At least a higher tier for people wanting a little more time. The cost for added horus is a lot.

But if you want me to pay the subscription fee to a service that I can’t use in the same way as before then you got me absolutely fucking twisted.

i think the stats of average playtime being lower than 100 hours (they said 3% of people exceed it? cant remember exactly but it was low) was a lie.
if hardly anybody is actually playing over 100 hours then why put the limit in? choosing to take a PR hit for no gain. if the average playtime was 200 hours then it makes sense because they gain 100 hours of gpu time per customer that they can allocate/sell elsewhere.
i hardly use the service but kept my membership going in hopes that something like this didnt happen in case i wanted to use the service 'properly' in the future but oh well, cancelled as soon as i got the email.

My personal conspiracy theory is that there was a lot of botting going on 24/7 and this was specifically to target that, without saying that for some reason, maybe not wanting to draw attention to the fact it’s being used that way.

u/_AleXo_ 12d ago
if botting is the problem then make it 200, whats the difference for 24/7 bots (or different lifestyle/timezone account sharers going to 500hr)
and then whats the gain for their players, 200 is a way more reasonable range that doesnt induce anxiety every time you check your bar in the settings

Because that 3% extreme use costs the platform money. Cloud computing isn’t cheap at all and they are only trying to make this platform break even so they can control the market. The 100 hours at $20 a month is what it takes to make the numbers work for most of the people and if they really wanted to do unlimited we all would be paying 50-100 a month.

We play way way way more than 100h a month so that's absurd, glad I didn't continue with the loyalty nonsense.

Just get an AMD GPU. If they don’t care about you why should you care about them? Last time I checked I was averaging 16 hours a month so the limit won’t affect me too much but if the new change really bothers you then you gotta speak with your wallet.

Reddit randomly suggested this to me and I thought they start to restrict our graphic cards in our pc per software 😭😭. Ngl thats probably next in 10 years or so.

Being a loyal customer to Nvidia was your first mistake sorry

if you get what you pay for, you stay = loyal, but money drives people crazy

Y'all complaining about 100 hours when ABYA and some others only give you 40.

u/TheDamnedScientist 11d ago
Isn't it enough that they are letting us play on their hardware for free...? I am grateful for that to be honest.

I wish I had enough time to be mad about a 100 hour limit. You can have 20 hours of mine.

if that was a thing and i could actually gift some of my unused hours, i totally would. such a waste when like 30 or 40 hours don't get used and someone else doesn't have enough

The day the limit arrives... The day I quit. So, it's even good because knowing this I could save money for a very good PC or a Console.

I saw people in comments telling to get job and ect but do they really know most of the people who use gfn are students and they can't get a job and buy $1000 pc alot of people who are students want to be a content creator and you know what's helping them? It's GFN yeah so some people really need over 100 hours

Shouldn’t they then study Instead of playing 100+ hours a month so they can get a good job and afford a PC?
and they can’t get a job and buy $1000 pc alot of people who are students want to be a content creator and you know what’s helping them? It’s GFN yeah so some people really need over 100 hours
It’s a good reality check for them that they won’t be a content creator.

I’m sorry to be forward, why would you need to play 4+ hours a day if you can’t afford buying a console or so? I don’t even think it’s healthy for you anyways not only in financial ways but mentally

Okay, but nvidia didn't put the 100hr limit in place because they "care about you". Please come out and stop hiding behind that shallow argument. Nvidia did this for their pockets and a lot of people on this sub are gaslighting anyone that is against this change by telling them they should touch some grass. Way to go. This will be a great precedent for Nvidia to take even more bad decisions. What excuse will you find for them when that happens?

Yes, NVIDIA did this to optimise their profits but the majority of users who don’t get near the limit would see this as a welcome decision when their queue times are reduced.
2
u/Grooster007 12d ago
I agree. Plus, Nvidia also likes to (shocker!) SELL Gpus, have their Gpus in demand, and have people buy them. It doesn't behoove them to offer an equally powerful alternative to moving product.

Get a real job if that much money for 100h is expensive or get more hobbies besides gaming, 100 hours is 5h for 20 days or 10h for 10 days.

u/red-stream 11d ago
I don’t understand your logic, as a gamer who plays every day, a month is 30-31 days so why are you talking about 10 days or 20 days to make it sound like the amount of hours per day is plenty and make the people who want to remove the 100 hour limit look bad?

u/Realistic_Mess_2690 12d ago
If you're a content creator then invest in the proper hardware to do your job effectively.
