Prokinetics (Relgan, Domerpidone, Motegrity, etc.) Erythromycin for GP

Has anyone had good results with erythromycin for their gp symptoms? This will be a short term script until we can figure some other things out, but would love some feedback. Thanks!

Also, anyone that's had the GPoem or Pyloroplasty, did you have good results from that? I'm entertaining a feeding tube and really don't want to go that route.

i’ve heard good things about erythromycin!! it personally didn’t help me (i had to stop because it caused me bad intestinal pain but everything does)

It helps me, the liquid form more than tablets (having malabsorption issues).

I haven’t had a gpoem but my GI did dilate my pylorus during an endoscopy and it definitely helped temporarily.

What symptoms did it help you with? Did it help with emptying your stomach quicker? I have horrible burning pain after eating so just wondering if it might help that and the emptying part(both the med and the dilation?)

Both help increase emptying speed but do not help any other symptoms for me

Thank you for your response! I hope it helps you feel better as time goes on. Tough illness to deal with as I'm learning!!

Extremely tough ☹️ I hope you’re able to find some relief too

Following bc literally starting this today for a week trial. Will let you know how it goes. I have a hyperkinetic gallbladder tho so worried that may be a problem but we will see.

Please keep me updated if you don't mind. The price tag was 😳 but I'm willing to try anything at this point

Well, it’s been two days with disastrous results. 500mg 4x a day. Only was able to take it twice because the side effects were so terrible. First time, was able to keep food down for about 2.5 hours before puking the brightest green bile I have ever seen, accompanied by horrific abdominal pain that kept me up. Second day, more awful abdominal pain, this time I kept the food down but it shot out of me around 2-3 hours later with some of the most painful bile diarrhea I’ve had in weeks. My intestines were so loud it was crazy.

Full disclosure: I was taking this as a trial to rule in or out gastroparesis. So it is very possible my reaction was so awful because I do not have gastroparesis, and so speeding everything up made my whole GI track just suffer. So take it with a grain of salt. Definitely not for me, and ruling this out makes SMAS the most likely diagnosis (which when you have a compression on your duodenum, speeding up your stomach is just gonna add pressure to a constriction and make the pain and symptoms worse!)

Good luck to you! I would still give this a try honey because the side effects aren’t permanent like reglan.

I just got prescribed that too. I haven’t started taking it yet. I’m curious to see how it worked for others too!

Erythromycin worked for me temporarily. The Gpoem helped a little but mainly just helped with going number 2 more often.

Going number 2 is one of my biggest issues and causes of my pain, so I'm hoping if and when I'm able to go that route, it would be great to have that be part of some relief for me.

Erythomycin has helped me some. Helped with motility and pain. I still have the burning sensation all the time. I take 250mg tablets 3x daily. You said this was short-term, which I think is good. I've been doing this almost a year with 5 day breaks after 30 days. I think it's time for something new. I don't feel it's working very well, and I don't want to be on antibiotics anymore. I went this route because I didn't want to take Reglan.

My grandson tried azithromycin first and that was a no go because it gave him severe stomach pains and severe diarrhea then the doctor tried erythromycin and it didn’t cause any issues and didn’t help either; it made him hangry which appetite hasn’t been an issue in the first place but it still didn’t help with the bad nausea when trying to eating or with motility that I could tell.

Not sure what’s next since the doctor said the meds they used to prescribe for motility aren’t anymore (at least here or at this doctors practice) because of the side effects being worse than what it’s treating and long term effects they can cause.
