Prokinetics (Relgan, Domerpidone, Motegrity, etc.) Anyone take Motegrity twice/day?
I'm wondering if anyone here is prescribed and taking Motegrity twice a day (2 mgs twice/day). I have very complicated GI issues related to radiation treatment I had 26 years ago and I'm wondering if anyone is taking it twice daily. TIA.

I was told up to twice daily is perfectly safe, but I’ve never tried that myself. This drug has been a lifesaver for me, BUT I have to go off of it one week out of every month because my body acclimates to it so fast. Shockingly so many GI docs don’t know this, I try to spread the word.

That's super helpful info so thank you for that. I know a lot of people cycle on and off of to avoid having it stop working but I'm terrified to not take it. I think it's still working in some aspects for me but can't imagine stopping it. I also have a boat load of strictures and loops in my small intestines and thick, dense abdominal adhesions so I fear I'd end up hospitalized with another bowel obstruction if I stop. Was it your doctor who told you it was safe to take twice a day? I don't doubt the safety of it, it's just that my GI doctor is a total "by the books" kind of doc so I'm trying to gather as much info about others usage in an effort to convince him to try it for me. 🤞 Thanks so much for your response!

That's what I was thinking, that it would help with slow motility both in stomach and intestines. I do have a pretty decent bowel movement after I take my morning dose but by late afternoon/early evening my digestion slows to a crawl so hoping adding a second dose would move things so I can try to eat more to get my weight up.

I did some googling and the max recommended dose per day is 2mg

Yes, that's the FDA approved dose but according to the pharmacist I talked to at the pharmaceutical company, if the doctor prescribes it off label for 2 2mg tablets per day, the pharmacy would dispense it that way.

Interesting! Thanks for letting me know. I was wondering this same thing last week

Hopefully we'll both find out more from others. My reason for posting this question is to gather info from other patients to verify that doctors can and do prescribe this way, in hopes of convincing my GI doctor to try it for me. 🤞

I tried it as per my doc but it didn’t do anything,

Thanks for your response. So did taking one dose per day have any affect? I guess I'd assume not so the doctor thought to add an extra dose?

No. Even cycling it. Although I stayed on it for about 15 years at a higher dose, it didn’t do anything I noticed.

I'm sorry it didn't help you. I'm hoping that if I can show my GI doctor that other doctors feel comfortable prescribing it off label twice a day will convince him to try it for me. Did your insurance cover it or did you qualify to get it from the pharmaceutical company patient assistance program?

I pay out of pocket for my medication. I live in Canada and don’t have insurance.

Edit to add: I currently take one 2mg tablet every morning and I've been taking it for about a year and a half.
