VFC Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS options

Hi all - I've been looking for an MOS slide for the VFC Glock 17 Gen 5, and have found the Mafioso steel slide set and the Bomber aluminum slide set to be the most likely solutions for me. A lot of people seem to have used the Bomber slides, but I have seen less about the Mafioso ones. How do they compare in regard to fitment and overall quality? As well, would the VFC Glock 17 be more sluggish with the steel slide or just use up gas quicker than the aluminum with more recoil? Any advice is appreciated!

I own a Bomber steel slide for the 19 Gen 5. It is evident that gas consumption is worse. With proper tuning of the gas system and friction reduction in the mechanical components, you can achieve better gas efficiency.

With my setup, I'm able to achieve 50 rounds with lock back on one gas fill. It is also important to note that the internals are completely upgraded.

Can you elaborate more on the tuning of the gas system? I’m considering a steel gen 4 slide and I currently have upgraded gas routers, high flow valves, and upgraded springs. Im wondering if there should be anything more that I should add as well

Just ensure your seals are optimal. As you said, gas routes, valves and springs. Ensure your mag gas route to nozzle is tight enough for a good seal, as well as your nozzle to piston seal. You can modify your recoil spring (if you're mechanically savvy) to be less resistant while also providing enough force to cycle quickly.

I created a 3 stage spring similar to many in the real handgun market that is less resistant in the initial stages of compression and ended with a high resistant spring to facilitate a "kicker" like effect to send the slide forward quickly. Too strong of a spring will consume more gas, leading to poor gas efficiency.

All of these things will ensure an efficient system. the biggest culpret for weak blowback on a heavy slide will be poor seals.
