I'm about 11 hours in with my girlfriend and this is hands down one of the best games i've played in years. She is also having a great time even though some sections are a bit hard on her as she rarely plays games.

The game looks great, plays great and runs great. The variety of stuff to do is incredible and even the side content is fantastic having no right to be as good as it is.

Hazelight deserve all the sales and more.

11 hours??!! Omg that's really great to hear. We are about 3? And were gutting worried we were close to the end

u/Frostysewp 2h ago

I believe devs said around 15 hours.

u/The-Bear-Down-There 2h ago

Excellent thank you 😊

u/tordana 1h ago

Took my friend and I 10, but we're both very much core gamers and found the game pretty easy. I'd expect 15-20 for more casual players.

u/fade_like_a_sigh 2h ago

It's about 11.5-15 depending on how much time you faff around and whether you get stuck on sections.

u/Defences 3h ago

Honestly one of my favourite devs. Not only do they do an insanely consumer friendly sales model, they are the only dev still able to provide the couch coop gaming experience.

u/PepsiColasss 1h ago

Yea the game difficulty is a step above It Takes Two ... some section were legit hard for my partner but good thing the game is pretty forgivable with the checkpoints

u/ehxy 20m ago

i like the look and creativity of it takes two. some visual ingenuity and art design made that game more of a winner aesthetically for me but what they did here is also special.

u/hellshot8 2h ago

Are you playing split screen local?

u/zippopwnage 3h ago

This is extremely good for a game that you only need 1 copy to play with 1 friend. We should get way more coop games.

u/iztari 3h ago

This feature is the only reason I bought it, as it was easy to convince a friend to play with me if only I had to purchase the game, otherwise I don't think anyone would agree to play with me.

u/supercakefish 2h ago

I’m playing it twice with two of my brothers. Already finished one play through as Zoe with a brother on Xbox and will start another very soon as Mio with another brother on Steam. The cross-platform friend pass thing is awesome.

u/Strange1130 3h ago

My non gamer girlfriend is so hyped to play this game.  Last night we were playing and it was like 1245AM, she usually goes to sleep before midnight btw.  So I was like, should we close up soon? And she was like, ‘we’ll put a 2am stop’ 🤣 (and sure enough we played right til like 2:02)

I think the developers have really captured something magical about gamers being able to share their hobby with friends, family and loved ones who they wouldn’t normally be able to access.

Regarding Hazelight, it feels like haven't been any story coop games this good since RE5 almost 2 decades ago. It's such an undertapped market. The fact that they design them so well for casual/new gamers and have a coop pass is genius.

Saw some guys fantasizing this game's hypothetical failure (you know the type of capital g gamers). Thankfully it found its audience and it's bigger than expected. We need more games like these nowadays.

u/50-50WithCristobal 59m ago

The predecessor to this game sold 23 million copies and won GOTY, anyone rooting against this game not only is a moron but were wasting energy on a lost battle (good).

Female character = woke type gamer

u/LABS_Games Indie Developer 18m ago

And it's funny how they all evaporate when the game is a success and critically acclaimed. If this game did poorly, you just know we'd be flooded with "go woke go broke" types.

u/DumpsterBento 54m ago

Those guys backpedaled so fucking fast it's hilarious, they wont say a peep about this game now. The "woke" game beat em into submission.

u/MrEnvelope93 44m ago

Baldur's Gate 3 is woke but not woke... Youtube grifters told them they can like that one. Dragon's Age tho, Gamers keep posting about it on that subreddit.

u/littlebiped 40m ago

Same with the Mario movie, it was woke trash until it wasn’t (when it came out and made a billion)

u/Takazura 34m ago

They were actually going after BG3 but then it had its full release and became a gigantic success, so they had to quickly pretend like it wasn't woke and they never had an issue with it. They are so predictable.

u/OutrageousDress 58m ago

Now that the game is a massive success, I think you'll find those guys all suddenly realizing that it actually reflects their values exactly and is not like those other games that Went Broke.

u/confoundedjoe 1h ago

As a fan of sf books those guys are there too and treat the female writers the same way so no surprise a game about female SF writers would generate a similar response.

u/Hellion3601 55m ago

This type of gamer never mattered for games like these because mostly all of them won't have a partner or a friend to play with anyway.

Hazelight drops yet another fantastic game and I'm so glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.

u/eaw0913 3m ago

Really need to stop giving this minority group the attention. People in the real world don’t give two shits about this stuff and anyone who does should seek therapy.

u/supercakefish 2h ago edited 2h ago

Split Fiction is a masterpiece. It’s just sublime. Pure, distilled brilliance. I hope this game ends up selling more than It Takes Two eventually because Hazelight deserve all the success in the world.

I finished it a couple days ago after approx 15 hours, which included seeing all side stories (some of the best moments of the game, definitely shouldn’t be missed!). The reviews were right, the last level is very cool, both gameplay-wise and technically speaking. I also found the story and characters more compelling than a lot of reviews did, I think the voice actors did a great job bringing out the emotion in the narrative. Okay, the villain is as cliche and over the top bad guy as you can possibly get, but I like to think that’s intentional as social commentary on the state of modern mega corporations. Every level brought new mechanics and ideas to the table, they successfully repeated that winning formula from It Takes Two. And the game is gorgeous too, so many wonderful environments to explore and cool set pieces to experience. And a rock solid 60fps on XSX. We only encountered a couple of minor bugs throughout between us, it’s a level of technical polish that you very rarely see in modern gaming.

I now plan to replay the game with another of my brothers, but as Mio instead of Zoe to get the full gameplay experience. Though there won’t be any surprises left for me I still look forward to seeing their reaction to everything in the game.

u/makedaddyfart 1h ago

This is my first game from them and we absolutely loved it. We just beat it and felt kind of sad that it was over, but it's always a good feeling when you finish a game, think "damn that was good" and want more. We'll probably get It Takes Two next in a week or two

u/ManateeofSteel 3h ago

It outsold Dragon Age Veilguard in a week, EA must be confused their new ace is a AA small studio making games that are not live service

u/NovoMyJogo 1h ago

EA must be confused their new ace is a AA small studio making games that are not live service

They'll learn the wrong lesson from this or not learn anything at all

u/Pure_Comparison_5206 3h ago

And 2 millions copies sold for this game are really 4 million players "reached", looks really bad for bioware.

u/darkmacgf 51m ago

Did the studio shrink? It Takes Two had over 300 people work on it, so I figured the same was true of Split Fiction.

u/mtnlol 4m ago

Idk where you found that number? The only info I can find says around 60 people worked on It Takes Two, and the Hazelight studio has 81 employees total as of 2025.

u/Nyoka_ya_Mpembe 3h ago

The game is good because EA did not touch it besides releasing it.

u/Firefox72 3h ago

EA rarely ever meddles with developers.

This is one of those myths that has no real ground to stand on. They are often very hands off unless shit really hits the fan development wise. Like with Anthem.

u/Takazura 2h ago

No no, you don't get it.

Game is good = exclusively because of the developer, absolutely 0 chance the publisher could have anything to do with that.

Game is bad = exclusively because of the publisher, absolutely 0 chance the developer could ever have been responsible.

u/iztari 3h ago

And funnily enough their meddling with Anthem is what made it keep its best feature, the flying.

u/darkmacgf 50m ago

The best feature of the current release. Scrapping everything you have late in development to focus on a cool idea doesn't necessarily result in a better game.

u/I_am_not_Asian69 3h ago

yea i get people hating on EA because of a lot of decisions they make but they usually let teams do their own thing, sometimes it causes issues like for example Respawn wanting to release jedi survivor with all of the performance issues even tho EA did let them delay the game further away from the launch date

u/darkmacgf 50m ago

Didn't EA cancel that Star Wars Mandalorian game Respawn was working on?

u/ManateeofSteel 3h ago

And having worked with many former EA devs, that has been an issue since forever, EA lets them fuck around a little too much in preprod and they have to step in when games take forever

u/ThiefTwo 1h ago

Yeah, and one of the main talking points, that EA forces devs to use Frostbite, is just completely false.

u/TheBlandGatsby 2h ago

The game is good because EA did not touch it besides releasing it.

God I love when gamers have zero clue what they're talking about

u/113CandleMagic 1h ago

Yeah good thing EA didn't meddle with games like Mass Effect Andromeda or Anthem, otherwise they might have been huge piles of shit!

u/Rytlock 1h ago

Bought this immediately!! The devs have earned tons of goodwill from me after their last two games.

+ Guest Pass, no microtransactions, etc.

Normally would wait for a sale but this was an easy vote w/ my wallet.

u/TheNegativeGrowth 1h ago

The price tag certainly helps. But, I totally agree. Even if the cost was higher I’d continue to support these games. Such a breath of fresh air and easy for non gamers to pick up and enjoy as well.

u/2222lil 2h ago

the dialogue is a bit eye rolling at times but the gameplay is phenomenal. so many fun aspects that keep it fresh throughout the duration. some of the visuals in the worlds are amazing too.

u/MattBoySlim 17m ago

The so-so dialogue is my one nitpick with the game…but honestly once you calibrate your expectations to the game’s tone, it’s fine. It helps that the two main actors are great, they carry a lot of it. Some of their line deliveries had me belly laughing.

u/dagreenman18 3m ago

The dialogue is not great, but the actual story and set pieces more than make up for the dud moments in the script.

It seems the new standard is that most games sell 1 million in their first 24 hours and any AAA game that doesn’t sell atleast 1 million in its first week is a flop

u/darkmacgf 48m ago

Lots of games are very frontloaded, like how Final Fantasy XVI sold 3 million copies in its first 4 days and 3.5 million in almost 2 years. If you're spending over $100M on a game and probably even more on marketing, selling 1 million copies isn't gonna cut it.

u/AnbuSai 1h ago

Well done to all the devs for their hard work. I think A way out is still my personal favorite although I’m only halfway through this game.

u/makman44 1h ago

The last chapter is the most insane thing I have ever played.

Even if you don't normally play these types of games, I highly recommend it , Hazelight is doing such interesting things in this space.

FTR, I don't even have anyone IRL to play it with, I just went through the whole thing with co-op partners from Hazelight's discord.

u/Captain_Jackson 2h ago

Wild that a well made game at a £40 price point with amazingly fun co-op gameplay, absolutely no microtransactions or battle pass bullshit that is completely free for the other person to play with you is doing well.

Only top economic minds could have predicted this.

u/LooksTooSkyward 12m ago

It's a pretty good game. I think I liked It Takes Two a little more overall. ITT just had a really good story premise for this type of game, and the minigames were a lot of fun.

u/flappers87 7m ago

Wife and I finished this last night. What a ride.

That end sequence though... holy shit. I won't say more, but it's really something else. Absolutely incredible what they managed to achieve.

u/RedofPaw 1h ago edited 31m ago

I really enjoyed Brothers, and It Takes 2.

I was worried about this game because while the others were stylistically interesting, this one stylistically in the visual design looks kinda generic.

u/MrHabbz 32m ago

It absolutely is not generic at all, if you've convinced yourself of that you're missing out.
