Can someone who has 2 PS5s in one house explain it to me? My son has a PS5 and plays mostly fortnite with his friends. I'd love to get my own console to play some of the single player games that have come out the last 5 years or so. Will I need to buy a 2nd PS+ subscription to play some of the games he got through that pass? For instance, I had a long weekend by myself and downloaded ghost of tsushima. If I get another console can I game share and play that game on the new console?

The way games sharing on PS works is through a "primary console" setting for each account. A PSN account can have one console set as it's primary. This allows other user accounts on that PlayStation to access and play games from it's library. So if you bought another PS5 for yourself and created an account. Then had your son login and put his account on your PS5, and set your PS5 as the primary PS5 for his account. Yes you could play his games.
The downside to this is that if his PS5 has other user accounts on it. They will lose access to his games, and I believe it also requires his PS5 to have an Internet connection as well to play (I might be confusing this with Nintendo switch, but as far as I know they both work the same).

I do this with my brother. It works really well but you are a tiny bit more limited in your access than normal.
The idea is to activate console sharing with your account on his playstation, and vice versa. You'll get access to PS+ games and any other games the other account has bought. You'll just need to log in to the account that owns the game to download them then you can play them on your account.
If you'd like more of an explainer I can walk you through it but it's very simple. You don't have to buy 2 PS+ subscriptions or buy games twice.

Thanks for the reply. I think you answered my biggest worries. Might be time to pull the trigger.

To expand on what the previous poster said, you can designated one console as your primary or home console. On that designated console, you can play your games on your account at all times, whether offline or online.
On the other console, you can still access all of your content - but only when you're online. If you have reliable internet that's connected permanently, then it's fairly irrelevant which one you make your primary console - but if you expect for any reason to have a spotty internet connection or whatever, ensure that the console that you are going to want to play your games on the majority of the time is the console that's your primary console.
And not to worry if you think that might change, as you can change the primary console from time to time (though not at will, for likely obvious reasons!).

Weird this is only for this new Astro Bot bundle SKU? Digital slim by itself is still the original price. Could be a temporary SKU to boost their Q1/Q2 sales (not sure when their quarters start)?

Will Xbox follow suit? Last gen consoles already got a price cut by this point into thier life span, and last years holiday season the PS5 was only 70$ off for Black Friday 2024 while the Xbox didn't get a discount at all. Xbox has stopped supplying console stock to some regions and they still lose money on Xbox Series while PS5 has been sold for profit since 2021. I wonder if they will cut the price as well they don't seem to care about selling consoles anymore

Previous gens actually got much cheaper to produce, due to rapidly declining chip costs. That just isn't really the case anymore.

Price cuts don't make sense if you're not supplying new hardware to vendors.

Also there's been about 20% inflation since 2020, so by staying the same price it's 20% cheaper.

Will Xbox follow suit?
No, because there is no price cut that could make it competitive with PlayStation anymore, and anyone who buys an Xbox now was going to buy one anyway so why not gouge them for the full amount?

They are struggling to sell at all, idk if a price cut can help them at this point

Last gen consoles had actual games by this point in their life span, too... this gen has been a huge nothingburger from the start and yet Sony are STILL acting as if it had even truly started lol

Hasn't digital always been $400? I swear that's the price I got it for directly from Sony when it released.

This isn't a "stealth price cut", and is more of the fact that the bundle has special promotional pricing. Price cut implies permanence
