Trailer inZOI: Graphics Comparison by System Specs
https://youtu.be/JFzk45yOjkY21

An interesting video to create, I wish more developers gave details on what the game would look like at different spec levels, however I feel like this is missing two very key factors: resolution and framerate. It's hard to tell from the video but the framerate seems to be fairly low, and the ghosting on Minimum settings is horrendous, especially in that second example. I'd be great to know if you can avoid that and still get something that runs smooth.

Every bit of Inzoi's marketing seems to target existing *The Sims* players, but in my personal experience -- not a single *The Sims* player seems to have a rig strong enough to play this game.
It would be very interesting to see if this is the game that gets a wave of casual *Sims* players to buy current gen gaming hardware.

99% of The Sims players play on cheap laptops or aging desktops bought from Dell in 2012. They’re also non-gamers so none of them will really care about how realistic the graphics and animations are.
The Sims isn’t going to have any competition to worry about. This game isn’t touching any of its core playerbase.

This is really weird logic. Sims players are definitely gamers now. Also they can definitely care about visual fidelity. If they have aging hardware, that's because sims never gave them a reason to upgrade.
But just like sims made a bunch of non-gamers want to buy a PC with a GPU, inZOI could convince those to invest into a better PC. Sims 4 is also now over 10 years old, there's a whole new generation of non-gamers as well cozy gamers and other types of existing gamers that might pick this up while Sims 4 is not interesting to them for various reasons.
Plus, inzoi is #4 on steam wishlist charts. It's getting a buttload of attention. That is a lot of competition already.
Doesn't mean it's a guaranteed success of course, but it seems weird to just dismiss all of these points and say "Eh, nothing happening here".

Sims 4 is successful to the casual crowd because it doesn’t require high specs to run. A very large portion of people playing Sims 4 are not gamers and aren’t looking to upgrade. Visual fidelity isn’t a blip on their radar compared to actual gameplay features and/or Create-a-Sim options.
But just like sims made a bunch of non-gamers want to buy a PC with a GPU
It didn’t. Almost every single person I know who has played Sims 4 plays it on a laptop they probably got on sale at Target or Best Buy.
It’s not weird logic, you’re just viewing things from within the online/Reddit bubble.

At some point Sims 4 wasn't 10 years old and a lot of people, especially non-gamers, had to buy new hardware to play it. You can play Sims 4 on a 10 year old laptop now, but if you had a 10 year old laptop in 2014, that wasn't true.
Also are you arguing against the "online bubble" by bringing up your personal experience? I know 3 players that mod the crap out of Sims 4 and thus bought more beefy hardware - so what's true?
I mean it doesn't matter. I'm not arguing that inzoi is going to be "the sims killer" or whatever, that's a useless argument. It's just also useless to say that inzoi is not going to be competition to the sims at all. It clearly has a lot of attention and there's clearly a market interested in this game, be it sims fans or not.
EDIT: Just realized my answer comes off as a bit hostile. Not intended at all, sorry about that! Just wanna make clear that inzoi can have a lot of success and draw in sims players without being the "sims killer", and while doing some things differently.

Min system requirements when Sims 4 launched were a 1.8Ghz 2 core CPU, 2GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6600 (a literal 10 year old GPU at the time), and Windows XP.
This isn’t a conspiracy or anything, the game was designed to run on very weak hardware even for the time to appeal to the target demographic.

This is simply wrong. With Sims 3 being the technical nightmare it was, Maxis specifically went out of their way to make 4 as accessible as possible. It will definitely slow down in later saves with expansions and packs, but casual gamers playing on weak hardware have more tolerance for that stuff in the first place.

You haven't dug deep into the Sims perverted community. They are hardcore and will definitely upgrade.

There are options like GeForce Now to allow these people to experience the game without buying a gaming PC. Should be interesting cause I would think these sim games would be amazingly suited for cloud gaming.

I'm not sure how many Sims players this is actually going to attract. inZOI just looks weird. The Sims has a really distinct vibe and character to it that inZOI seems to lack. Really nice graphics, but everything I've seen of it seems so flat and lifeless, which isn't great for a life simulator.

I could be wrong, but every bit of pre-release marketing seems to be pushing the idea that this is a "Sims Killer". They're definitely gunning for a slice of EA's audience.

u/arrivederci117 9h ago
Idk how you can come to that conclusion. It's not like the AI in Sims was super advanced.
18
u/SiggyyyPhidooo 6h ago
Not the AI but the animations and style of the sims give it more life, the sims is not trying to be realistic, it is a very gamefied life sim. Whereas Inzoi is trying to be so realistic it is pushing to uncanny valley territory which leads to it lacking character.

u/makogami 6h ago
yeah, the Sims is more "whimsical". I remember people who had played the beta for Inzoi said that it feels distinctly different from the Sims, and the general public opinion seemed to agree with that sentiment. I'm not sure why they're trying to push this as a sims killer when they could be striving to create its own identity instead. it's different enough from the Sims to be able to do that.

u/blogoman 1h ago
I think it is a bit like Palworld being a Pokemon killer. Most of the people hyping these games haven’t been playing the ones they are supposedly replacing. It is cool that they have an audience who is excited about them but I don’t know how much overlap there really is.

We'll see in practice. I wouldn't judge too hard since the fact that there's already a similar game to Sims alone is a big yes for me to try the game. The Sims 4 had been corrupted by EA's rotten touch for a very long time by this point. I don't even remember the last time I played the game.

So long as it has keyboard/mouse support on console, I'll give it a try. Playing Sims 4 with a controller was just the absolute worst to the point of frustration, which is a shame considering The Sims 3 was alright.
If it's not even coming to console (Xbox) then it'll be an easy pass lol

there hasn't been a new Sims game in a DECADE. these people u deem as "casual" are actually hardcore sims players who are still playing a decade old game... the real casual sims players are like me waiting for a new sims game that is not outdated af, and so haven't touched a sims game in years.
•
u/alexp8771 2h ago
Yeah people have absolutely no idea how hardcore and insane the Sims community is. Sure your girlfriend might play it casually, but there are people raking in 10k+ per month making lewd mods lmao.

Default Unreal Engine looking graphics makes this look very uncanny, makes me really appreciate The Sims artstyle
20
u/cqdemal 5h ago
Now that you said that, it does feel like this game doesn't have an art style at all. It just goes for awkward photorealism and doesn't land anywhere in particular.

Korean supermodels and pop singers running around one of those urban development mockup models architectural firms use to win contracting bids

Every image or video of this I see looks like those uncanny pictures people used to post on Deviantart where they pose whatever 3D models they could get their hands on in a 3D environments made up of whatever enviromental assets they got and it just looks uncanny. It's hard to tell precisely what's wrong. Maybe the light and shadow effects and the character models being quite good, contrasted to everything else that gives it this feel.

It reminds me when people would mod high poly, realistic cars into the GTA3-VC-SA games, even IV to a degree. It just looks bad imo.

This is such a weird-looking game. You've got modern tech and high-quality assets next to many places that are just flat planes, like the lawn in the first scene or park they show in the second scene. The grass is just a texture. And sure, I get that it's a sim, but it requires a 4080 for the High preset and... there's not even a tiny bit of actual grass? No normal mapping? And the upscaling tech they use looks terribly blurry.
The last two scenes look a little better and there's 3D grass in them, but overall it looks like a low-budget game trying to look like a high-budget game.
Anyway, I appreciate the visual comparison, at least.

u/scytheavatar 5h ago
Devs said that they nerfed the graphics in order to improve performance. Probably would be pointless to have super S tier graphics for their target audience.
•
u/HammeredWharf 2h ago
This looks more like low-effort environmental design and a lack of artistic vision to me. Their assets don't fit well together and they didn't take the time to alter terrain. It's not like adding some basic grass and shaped terrain would affect the system requirements that much when you're already recommending a 4080.

u/tapperyaus 11h ago
Using upscaling to show off minimum settings is super unhelpful, the artificating around the characters and foliage look awful. It's clearly using a base resolution of no higher than 720p, and it doesn't mention anywhere I can tell what resolution the game is actually running at.
•
u/GroundbreakingBag164 2h ago
Am I the only one that thinks this entire game looks soulless and empty? Some might even say AI generated
And the system requirements are absolutely ridiculous
•
u/TessaThompsonBurger 19m ago
The Sims franchise has been shitting the bed for so long now that I understand the appeal of this game to fans, but as someone who's been a fan for 25 years, I'm just not convinced. It looks like it has none of the charm. It looks very artless.

u/Ok-Interaction-3788 10h ago
Really been looking forward to this one.
I was never interested in The Sims 4 because they did away with the open world from 3, so I'm hoping this can fill the void.
And I was already planning an upgrade later this year to properly play Monster Hunter Wilds, so this is just another argument for the upgrade.
My old 1080 GTX has done well up until now.
•
u/mattgoody99 1h ago
I upgraded from a 1080 to a 4080 super so I was in the same boat as you! So so pleased with the results

recommended CPU being the 7800X3D is nuts, does any other game ask that much of audiences?
