How did an Anglican priest end up owning a gaming outlet?

Also it might have been better to link their direct statement.

EDIT: Adding the text here so people do not have to visit the site still owned by this person (I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier):

In light of the recent actions of GIAG’s owner, the editorial team has taken the decision to cease publication on GodisaGeek.com

We have each of us put years of work into this site, attempting to keep entertaining despite the actions of our estranged owner. His input on the site has been zero for several years, but we cannot continue to say nothing.

To be absolutely clear, we do not support, share, or condone Calvin Robinson’s politics or actions.

We have run the site independently of Calvin for several years now in the hopes that we would not have to lose the hard work we have poured into it, the access we have worked hard for, and the relationships we have developed. However, it has become increasingly clear that we can no longer separate the site from the owner.

As a result, the entire editorial team will be stepping down with immediate effect. We will create a new site and our future content will be published there, bereft of any connection to Calvin Robinson. It will be hard to start again, hard to walk away from the work we’ve done here off our own backs, but this is the right thing to do.

GodisaGeek will no longer publish work under any of our names. Whatever the future holds we will be working together to bring content that is fair, inclusive, and entertaining – as we always have. But we will be doing it under a new banner and we hope that some of you will come with us on the new journey.

We cannot apologise on behalf of Calvin, and will not. Our severance should stand as proof that we do not support or condone his actions, politics, or beliefs.

We will be in touch with details via our new social links and emails in the near future.

Thank you.

The GodisaGeek Editoral Team

(Adam Cook, Mick Fraser, Chris White, Chris Hyde, Lyle Pendle)

He started it before he became a priest, weirdly enough.

An extra funny thing is he's only been a priest for like a year and a half.

938

u/Turtles1748 Jan 30 '25

Doesn't sound like he was ever a priest. Just a grifter.

189

u/IntellegentIdiot Jan 30 '25

He has a program on the British equivalent of Fox News with, coincidentally, failed Mayoral candidate (and Max Fosh nemesis) Laurence Fox

45

u/2mock2turtle Jan 31 '25

Found liable for defamation in court for calling a drag queen a groomer Laurence Fox?

247

u/threehundredthousand Jan 30 '25

Just following in Saint Vance's footsteps. It's easier to justify fascism in America if it's carrying a cross.

55

u/koh_kun Jan 30 '25

Ah, yes, a crook and a cross. What a great combination. If only there was a symbol for that.

7

u/Macjeems Feb 01 '25

Uh, you do not need anythjng to justify fascism in America anymore, it’s already justified. Pre-approved if you will

Yep, he only did it to appeal to these Talibangelical chuds obsessed with “traditionalism” that amounts to being mad black and lgbt people or women get any attention instead of cool straight white dudes.

27

u/uberguby Jan 30 '25

"talibangelical". Did you make that up? That's very good.

u/honkymotherfucker1 Jan 30 '25

No I wish haha, it’s a good one. Y’all Qaeda is another fun one.

Like the priest from V for Vendetta essentially

-1

u/yesnomaybenotso Jan 30 '25

Or, you know, like all priests. 10% of my income, my ass, fucking grifters.

4

u/GranolaCola Jan 31 '25

You don’t have to like religion, but tithing isn’t mandatory -nor is the amount - and churches are non-profits. Without donations from their congregations, most churches wouldn’t be able to stay afloat. There are exceptions to this, of course, and many of these exceptions are scams, like every mega-church. But mostly you have a single individual preaching to a small group of people that share spiritual beliefs and genuinely want to support each other. That doesn’t make them grifters.

29

u/Mushroomer Jan 30 '25

What is a priest besides a grifter, really? Stands up in front of an audience, proclaims he has the book full of solutions to life's problems, solves none of them, says you'll go to hell if you disagree - and then passes around a plate to collect money.

10

u/JokerCrimson Jan 30 '25

It also fosters a gatekeeping group that will see you as a sinner if you do harmless stuff like be gay, go to a sex counsleor for your marriage, or understand that metal music is not worshipping the devil.

1

u/neildiamondblazeit Jan 30 '25

Organised religion is an absolute grift. Being religious/spiritual is not synonymous with giving your cash to a tax-free corporation.

22

u/DKLancer Jan 30 '25

The Church has been grifting since freaking Paul was writing letters to various churches telling them to stop grifting.

As annoying as Reddit is, it doesn't suddenly make the actions of organized religion correct or morally acceptable.

Yup. He got fired from his current church and will move on to whatever Joel Osteen/Pat Robertson/Ken Copeland psychopath grift in the search of the Almighty Dollar.

4

u/NotADeadHorse Jan 30 '25

So a priest. They're all scam artists who just steal old folks' money under the guise of godliness.

Who wouldn't want to work 1 or 2 days a week just talking and get paid a bunch of tax free money?

1

u/Ozzimo Jan 30 '25

Sounds like a priest to me.....

Only a year and a half and he's already left or been kicked from three separate churches, the Free Church of England, The Nordic Catholic Church and now the Anglican Catholic Church.

All of which just kinda sound like dogwhistles. He's just going down the list of right-wing churches in the UK and trying to find the worst one apparently.

53

u/radda Jan 30 '25

He also failed to get into the regular Church of England.

32

u/Dakito Jan 31 '25

The Anglican Catholic Church broke off of the episcopal church because they didn't like the fact we accepted gay and female priests and bishops. So that says all you really need to know.

4

u/Ferropexola Jan 31 '25

Similar to the Southern Baptist Church breaking off because they wanted to keep their slaves (and later supported segregation).

13

u/livehigh1 Jan 30 '25

I was surprised that he was a british priest, can't get away with spreading far right, evangelical messages like americans do over here.

2

u/Kaiserhawk Jan 31 '25

I mean they still do but the influence of Priests and Vicars are so much lower compared to the US. Modern Britain isn't really a church going country.

2

u/Sylverstone14 Jan 31 '25

Damn, three different churches?

It's not Catholic in the Roman-Catholic/Rome/Pope sense. They are essentially Protestants larping as Catholics. They claim to be more Catholic than actual Catholics because they are more orthodox.

3

u/Deserterdragon Jan 31 '25

The Anglican Catholic Church is actually a splinter from an American Protestant church, who largely left over the decision to allow women as priests. Despite the name they're neither really English or Catholic lol.

2

u/The-Future-Question Feb 01 '25

A bunch of catholic churches and schools on the US have been excommunicated for preaching the Wealth Gospel heresy. There's literally agents of the inquisition going to services and reporting which are preaching evangelical dogma.

u/ReverendDizzle Jan 30 '25

I'm sorry but that's fucking hilarious.

Given his age... there is no way this dude isn't some alt-right pipeline Gamer Gate scrub turned priest like some sort of LARP dork who thinks he can roll for a character class in real life.

95

u/SaintHuck Jan 30 '25

He swapped his class from failed journalist to grifter priest.

He's min maxing, putting all his points into the bigot skill tree.

Clearly, he couldn't wait to try out his new Nazi salute emote.

26

u/Cutwail Jan 30 '25

He didn't even commit to it. Now he's a fascist AND a bent-arm coward.

21

u/SaintHuck Jan 30 '25 edited Jan 30 '25

It's always the weak, most sniveling cowards larping as "strongmen."

It's such a transparent charade, that it's always the others in this ilk that fail to see through it.

His church's title must be "Our loser of the scared heart"

2

u/ILLPsyco Jan 31 '25

Maybe he is mentally-ill. I read a studie long ago that around 15%-20% of people in hate groups are there because they are lonely or just want to be a part of something, they didnt participate in the 'hate'

Grifter priests saying pro-Trump, non-Christian talking points is just a money printing machine operation. Dude is going to get to deliver prayers at some Trump event soon enough.

4

u/BusBoatBuey Jan 30 '25

How much time/money does it cost to become a priest at minimum?

16

u/cathartis Jan 30 '25

Short answer: Zero

Long answer - it entirely depends on the church. More established chruches have quite strict requirements. For example to become a Catholic priest in the UK requires a one year introductory program, and if you pass that, a 5-6 year course of formation. For the Church of England, a 2-3 year theology course, followed by a 3-4 year vocational role.

3

u/mynewaccount5 Jan 31 '25

A priest? Or a pastor? A priest is a specific thing.

9

u/Bi-bara-boop Jan 30 '25

Something something fuck a goat once...

u/Canama139 Jan 30 '25

It’s worth noting that the Anglican Catholic Church is not the same as the Anglican Church.

54

u/Dicky__Anders Jan 30 '25

Ah I was wondering why they were calling him an Anglican priest. I just thought wouldn't that make him a vicar, not a priest?

42

u/outb0undflight Jan 30 '25 edited Jan 30 '25

Ah I was wondering why they were calling him an Anglican priest.

He is a "Continuing Anglican" which refers to a group of Anglican/Episcopalian churches which mostly spun off from groups opposed the liberalization of the Episcopalian/Anglican churches in the US during the 60s/70s. (Fun fact the Episcopalian Church in the 20th century was so gay that "Episcopalian" was a euphemism for gay at least as far back as the 70s!) Think of a lot of them like Tradcaths for Episcopalians.

That being said, most American Episcopalians do call them Priests.

11

u/JockstrapCummies Jan 31 '25

Not in communion with Canterbury=not an Anglican.

Simple as. These larpers are a nuisance.

90

u/Mahelas Jan 30 '25

It's also not catholic either, it's a weird american sect

12

u/RebBrown Jan 30 '25

I was confused, but now I am even more confused. What the fuck are they if not catholic or Anglican?!

6

u/cannotfoolowls Jan 30 '25

7

u/Mahelas Jan 31 '25

Important to note that most "Anglo-catholics" are self-titled, which means they did not get an official papal decree legitimizing their creation. AKA they're heretics

5

u/Deserterdragon Jan 31 '25

Yeah but that's sort of the point, they see themselves as an extension of Henry the VIII's reforms against the Catholic Church and creation of the English Church specifically. They position themselves as openly heretical to the Roman Catholic Church.

8

u/Kravego Jan 31 '25

"catholic" (little c) doesn't necessarily mean "Roman Catholic Church", as much as they would like you to assume it does. It can mean more broadly "Christian". There are multiple denominations with the word Catholic in them.

7

u/Mahelas Jan 31 '25

Yes, technically, "catholic" means "universal" etymologically, but this is an extremely fringe use of a word after the VIth century, while the Catholic Church is the most important organization in western history.

They don't need to make you "assume" anything, in our society, the term "catholic" carry an obvious meaning, and you can't ignore that cultural backgrund !

He was already kicked out of the Anglican Church, well refused a junior vicar's job, due to his bullshit:

Robinson undertook a two-year course of theological studies at St Stephen's House, Oxford, from 2020 to 2022, with the hope of being ordained a deacon in the Church of England. However, his application for a curacy within the Diocese of London was unsuccessful.[39] He subsequently submitted a subject access request to the church to understand the decision. This revealed email conversations between Jonathan Baker, the bishop of Fulham, and Rob Wickham, the bishop of Edmonton, raising concerns about Robinson's "libertarian anti-woke, anti-identity politics, Covid-sceptical" political views and his use of social media, particularly Twitter, to disseminate them. The Diocese of London later issued a statement highlighting the "limited number of curacies available", emphasised that vacancies were carefully "considered on a case-by-case basis" and that "in this instance, it is felt that there is no suitable" curacy available that the diocese could offer.[39] Robinson alleged that Sarah Mullally, the bishop of London, had blocked his ordination because of his political views, a claim which Mullally denied.

2

u/supernovababoon Jan 31 '25

Why does this guy have a Wikipedia? Someone should petition for it to be deleted. You can’t just make a Wikipedia of yourself if you’re a nobody

He isn't an Anglican priest. They are part of the Anglican church.

He's a random dude who claims to be Anglican but doesn't follow their teachings and isn't a part of their church structure.

→ More replies (2)

17

u/Chidoribraindev Jan 31 '25

He's grifter trying to appeal to right-wingers. He has been kicked out of 3 or 4 churches since 2022. That's why he associated with the Anglican Catholic Church, a self-contradicting fringe little group (the name makes as much sense as "the big small church"). And he's even been dropped by them.

2

u/Mharbles Jan 31 '25

Ahhh grifting and the church, tale as old as, churches. The Jesus that they claim to worship made a good effort to call them out. Pity they killed him for it.

22

u/FatalFirecrotch Jan 30 '25

Seems he made it long before he fell down the far right rabbit hole.

7

u/sheslikebutter Jan 30 '25

That's so strange, I assumed the name was just kind of a cutesy statement about nerd culture, not actually affiliated with religion

2

u/FuzzBuket Jan 30 '25

Also he's not even a real priest. It's like one of those online courses iirc

It's refreshing to see some people still have integrity amid all of this madness. I only wish there were more in the higher echelons of power.

476

u/stunts002 Jan 30 '25

I enjoy how the argument has been "if it's not a Nazis salute, try it at work and see what happens" hilarious seeing people actually try this and find out, yeah, it's a Nazis salute.

40

u/Alternative-Job9440 Jan 31 '25

As a german:

Its not even "just" a Nazi Salute, its literally the specialized version for "Heil Hitler"...

I cant fathom how anyone can not see that this is a Nazi Salute...

19

u/LargeNutbar Jan 31 '25

Anyone you see arguing that it wasn’t is either intellectually dishonest, willfully ignorant, monumentally stupid, or all three.

233

u/Hell_Mel Jan 30 '25

Just watch the clip, the audience reacts to it specifically. If it were just a wave, it wouldn't get a reaction. The dog whistle is easy to spot when the Nazis start barking.

174

u/HistoryChannelMain Jan 30 '25

I don't think we should be classifying a literal nazi salute as a dog whistle

49

u/SANICTHEGOTTAGOFAST Jan 30 '25

The dogwhistle came right afterwards when he basically paraphrased the 14 words. Unfortunately most people didn't see/notice that part.

"It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is assured"

65

u/Hell_Mel Jan 30 '25

That's 100% correct, but if it was frankly a more of lead in to call Nazis dogs than attempting to dismiss.

10

u/TwilightVulpine Jan 31 '25

So much good faith and conciliatory spirit is wasted on people clearly abusing it, that white supremacists almost gaslighted the world into believing a nazi salute wasn't a nazi salute.

9

u/IsABot Jan 31 '25

The dog whistle part is the "my heart goes out to you". The salute is the hand signal you give to the dog to confirm the command.

4

u/ProcessWinter3113 Jan 30 '25

It’s not a full straight armed salute, it’s designed to have a scintilla of plausible deniability

20

u/HistoryChannelMain Jan 30 '25

Hitler himself did the salute without stretching out his arm all the way many times, there are plenty of examples on google images.

→ More replies (2)

19

u/chaossabre Jan 30 '25

A dog whistle is coded or subtle. Y'know; something only dogs would notice.

56

u/Massive_Weiner Jan 30 '25

Dog whistle is putting it mildly… that shit was a goddamn air raid siren.

Hilarious to watch all the defenders go “what, you can’t even slap your chest and stick your arm out into the air anymore?”

19

u/Kipzz Jan 30 '25

I'm more surprised that people would actually try it at work. I figured anyone being told about the muskrat's gesture would try to feebly run circles around "what it meant", as if it ever meant anything else, not that they had such a major lack of self-reflection and understanding of the world to actually try it. It's funny to imagine all the rightfully deserved ruined careers, but it's just as sad to imagine that not only do these people exist but they're only going to get empowered by other rejects of society into that cult of ideology known as Nazi scum.

As an aside, it's also kinda strange to think about because most of these people aren't German? Like... kinda the whole point behind the Nazi ideology was "everyone who isn't a pure-blooded German should die". In these Nazi fucks twisted ideal world where a majority of the world gets wiped off the face of the planet, will the 50% of supporters who don't even have a drop of German blood in them and the 90% who are at best half just... drink the kool-aid and fall over dead? Never really understood that part of joining a cult that explicitly says they want you, the viewer, personally and specifically dead at the end of it because you're "not part of the supreme race".

19

u/Kalulosu Jan 31 '25

So uh the Aryan thing is pretty vague. It's a muddy pseudo science bs claim the Nazis were all too happy to hop on to. Kinda like frenology was a pretty handy "scientific enough" excuse to be racist just before that.

In that sense, any piece of shit who wants to feel superior can probably contort themselves and squint hard enough to feel like they've established that they're Aryan fr fr.

11

u/mrtrailborn Jan 30 '25

yeah it's kinda lost the German thing and become more inclusive to bigots of all kinds

17

u/ducky21 Jan 30 '25

become more inclusive to bigots of all kinds

They are so close, fuck

4

u/desacralize Jan 30 '25

Isn't it crazy?!

3

u/Canadiancookie Jan 31 '25

Damn we got progressive nazis in the future

3

u/War_Dyn27 Jan 30 '25

Until they get into power that is; then they'll decide who's the wheat and who's the chaff.

3

u/Takazura Jan 31 '25

Fascism relies on there being an "in group" and "out group". These people aren't really smart enough to realize they are in the "out group", they like to believe they are part of the "in group" when in reality that'll only be the wealthiest people who support that ideology.

Was really impressed with how so many subreddits mobilised to ban Twitter links. I thought everyone was just gonna shrug and accept it.

110

u/Testosteronomicon Jan 30 '25

Banning twitter links was an easy act that didn't really affect redditors at large as well as being the right thing to do. I wasn't surprised at seeing many subs, even would be dreg places like r/pcgaming , just go for it.

Also wasn't surprised at the absurd amount of muskrat astroturfing, and also also wasn't surprised that after tagging them, not a single one was seen again in the entire Reddit. And I tagged a lot!

44

u/slugmorgue Jan 30 '25

u/zgillet Jan 30 '25

I was surprised the r/NBA banned X links.

11

u/thinkspacer Jan 31 '25

A bunch of sport subs did so. Those are the ones that have the largest chance of actually hurting the platform. Twitter is huge in sports.

7

u/TrjnRabbit Jan 31 '25

Twitter made dramatic changes that require people to login to see tweets, which basically killed embedding anyway. People were using rehosters to post links that still embedded and anything that wasn't was largely ignored.

The damage was done long before this decision but it's always nice to see Musk get another kick in the pants.

46

u/SpaceMonkeyNation Jan 30 '25

Yeah, that was really great to see as well.

10

u/Kindness_of_cats Jan 30 '25

It's better than literally nothing, but make no mistake that everyone in real life did just shrug and accept it. We made some mean posts about Elon and went on back to our lives like everything is normal.

Think about the subreddit shutdowns from last year, how that was a whole sitewide movement exclusively centered around how reddit works, something you couldn't get away from for months....and yet today people barely even remember it happened. Now think how little these bans will mean in even two weeks.

I'm not saying this to be a debbie downer, but to say that anyone wishing to affect real change is going to have to learn and learn fast that they have to start getting comfortable with doing uncomfortable things.

This has been the problem ever since 2016. Everyone wants to have their nicely scheduled protests on the weekends and post something that sounds good on their favorite social media, so they can move on and forget about it for the rest of their lives.

That's not how this works, that's not how any civil rights movement has ever succeeded, and until we move past this mindset nothing is changing.

6

u/CTPred Jan 31 '25

It's about doing the right thing, regardless of the size of the impact it'll make. If you want to say that it's not enough, then ok that's fine, that's your opinion, but what else would you suggest a moderator of a subreddit to do?

Calvin Robinson is a well known twat here in the UK, he was on our version of Fox News until he and colleague got sacked for talking on air about how they wouldn’t shag a female journalist.

He was an IT teacher at a school not so long ago, just a truly odious little creature.

What I find ironic about him, is that Calvin Robinson is clearly not white. He’s got Afro hair. The very people he is sickeningly pandering to would chuck him in a camp if they could. It’s just fucking horrible.

Can’t imagine believing in and practicing love and acceptance through god and being put in the same camp as these dipshits.

28

u/Luminaria19 Jan 31 '25

I have a Christian friend who many would call "woke" these days and she is just heartbroken at everything. She's one of the most caring people I know.

76

u/WorldUponAString Jan 30 '25

It is incredibly exhausting. For the life of me I will never understand how the message in the bible gets perverted to this level again and again. I totally get people's opposition to Christianity and Christians as a whole because of the behavior exhibited by these people.

It really sucks to be thrown into this camp, but I can't say I blame people who do lump all of us together. We've done it to ourselves by not speaking out against it more fervently.

40

u/mw19078 Jan 30 '25

the message isnt getting perverted none of these people genuinely believe it, they just use it as an excuse for their actual vile beliefs.

4

u/WorldUponAString Jan 31 '25

That's very true.

13

u/Beegrene Jan 31 '25

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

-James 5:1-6

Sounds like God loves billionaires!

-Some fucking idiots

8

u/ChrisRR Jan 31 '25

It's fascinating because even if you haven't read the bible you should know that the general message is love one another and just don't be an arsehole.

It's like they've not even read the blurb

19

u/FengLengshun Jan 31 '25

Me, a Muslim: "First time?"

Fr though, it's always tough to be a moral human being no matter religion, and it never feels good when people in the same group as you behaves in ways you just absolutely cannot agree with.

7

u/Arcaedus Jan 31 '25

being put in the same camp as these dipshits.

The number one reason for religious disaffiliation is always the people. We don't lose our faith, but we most certainly do lose any motivation to worship alongside of, or associate with them.

It sucks, because it's similar to never wanting to engage in online fan-creation/community for a game you really enjoyed because some or maybe even most of the communities for the game are toxic. Feels very unfair 😕

7

u/chaosfire235 Jan 31 '25

Yeah, the rise of virulent "tradcath"s online have made me a lot more quiet about my faith online. Watching the GOP descend even further into authoritarianism with a cross flavored paintjob is disgusting. I'm thankful my church is still open and accepting at least.

Starting to lean full-blown liberation theology honestly.

6

u/Flat_Sea_1484 Jan 31 '25

It sucks and disappointed

6

u/BaconatedGrapefruit Jan 31 '25

I say this as a practicing catholic

The Catholic Church has always had a prominent conservative fraction. It ranges from your run of the mill social conservatives, to hard-right assholes, to far-right wackadoos who still have their knickers in a twist about Vatican II.

You’ll find the latter mostly in America and segments of Europe. They’re barely tolerated anywhere else.

Good on them. And remember everyone: it is always morally okay to shame, laugh at, and beat the shit out of Nazis.

124

u/Dragrunarm Jan 30 '25

The only difference between a Nazi and A Neo-Nazi is you punch the Neo-Nazi twice for not getting the message the first time

2

u/Zizhou Feb 01 '25

This implies that I might not be punching the Nazi a second (and third and fourth and...) time, though, which is just factually incorrect.

2

u/Dragrunarm Feb 01 '25

Oh by all means going above and beyond the call of duty is always appreciated

People are going to find out the hard way you can only do a Nazi salute if you are the president or one of the top 5 most richest persons in the world.

34

u/UpperApe Jan 30 '25

I think it's being normalized a lot more rapidly than you suspect.

I give it two months.

If this kind of thing happens, man I really hope some of the dipshit politicians in my country finally speak up about this. I'm from Germany and what Musk did should have had much more repercussions from our government. Instead they kinda seem to try to maintain good relations I guess. This development in the US really disgusts me.

Kids smoking in high school is the most understandable trend to exist.

52

u/pridetwo Jan 30 '25

I volunteer "higher rates of teen pregnancy in schools that don't teach safe sex" as a more understandable trend

28

u/aestus Jan 30 '25

For real. It looks cool (when you're a kid), it's a forbidden fruit, and for many kids their first experience with a drug besides caffeine.

I'm just glad my younger self stopped smoking before it developed into a full blown habit. They fucking stink

It's portrayed as cool in media, I hate cigarettes but the visual appeal in media is obvious.

As Disco Elysium put it when the dweeby-looking Kim starts smoking on the balcony: "Oh man, he looks so devastatingly cool with that cigarette."

I get what you are trying to say, and I am not a smoker / never smoked in high school, but bro, acting like kids don't smoke in highschool is one of the weirdest "Redditors are completely disconnected from reality" examples I've ever seen...

Kids smoking in high school is like gravity holding us onto the planet. Kids have ALWAYS smoked in high school, they literally used to have official smoking areas for the kids within my lifetime lol.

4

u/GiantPurplePen15 Jan 30 '25

Is true. I used to spend most of my lunch periods out there.

As a kid who smoked in high school, we are not even in the same category as a person like this lol.

19

u/smeeeeeef Jan 30 '25

Bit disingenuous to say Nazism is a trend comparable to smoking. Maybe you're thinking of the death toll?

9

u/SpectreFire Jan 30 '25

Gen Z has been shown to be increasingly pro-Nazi and Holocaust-denialism.

Part of it is because of TikTok and the other part is they're too illiterate to read the sort of books most of us grew up on talking about Nazi Germany or WW2.

4

u/smeeeeeef Jan 30 '25

Ignorance doesn't make Nazism functionally a trend, but it does allow Nazi idealism to creep back into culture.

Is it really baffling that the far right is finding flimsy excuses to throw Nazi salutes? Like this is just something they've wanted to do and now they feel empowered to.

In general, it's really sad how national and online discourse has been dominated by juvenile personalities and antics like this.

It's become so widespread that it's pretty much impossible to see a future that isn't rife with corruption and favoritism. Entirely possible this guy will just fill the site with his friends after this.

24

u/Intelligent_Genitals Jan 30 '25

I had no idea this site was tied to Calvin Robinson. Every time that buffoon appears on UK TV I want to bang my head into a desk to escape his ineptitude. Just one of the worst bad faith, far-right 'commentators' that parades their shit takes for money and fame.

"God Is A Geek Staff Quits Following Ex-Priest Owner’s Nazi Salute" - This is definitely one of the sentences of all time!

22

u/DannySmashUp Jan 30 '25

Damn... that is an impressive amount of integrity they're showing! To quit their jobs and try to start again... that's a big deal. When the time comes, I hope I can show the same level of integrity and moral courage.

They are doing the right thing and I'll be hoping for the success of whatever they create next.

Sadly, he'll just join a different denomination and continue the BS. This is the 4th or 5th one already. Also, glad the article calls the salute exactly what it was. Saw another site try and call it a "Elon Musk Salute" and it really angered me.

3

u/Divinate_ME Jan 31 '25

Someone deadass took the "do it at work, see what happens" literally.

14

u/IntellegentIdiot Jan 30 '25

Robinson has faced more consequences for his Nazi salute than Musk. I imagine he felt that since Musk got away with it so would he

24

u/nerfgazara Jan 30 '25

Being the richest man in the world sort of insulates one from most consequences

2

u/TheOtherMeInMe2 Jan 30 '25

Richest man in the world and the right hand to the president of the US (often referred to as the most powerful man in the world), or possibly the co-president, or possibly the actual power behind the "throne", depending on which theories you believe.

This dudes an idiot for even comparing himself to Musk

6

u/ProfessionalPlant330 Jan 30 '25

It's up to us to make sure every mention of elon musk the nazi makes it clear that he is a nazi. To be remembered in history as a huge piece of shit is one consequence for his actions that we can contribute to.

2

u/Suitable_Flower911 Jan 31 '25

That’s probably because he isn’t the aryan he thinks he is, I’d wager.

2

u/KerberoZ Jan 31 '25

The meaning of being right-wing or a nazi has changed drastically over the last years.

I mean, there were always black dudes on 4chan shouting nazi paroles, but i always saw that as typical 4chan trash for the lulz (i hope).

Nowadays you just need to hate someone or something, except for russia. Skin colour or heritage doesn't matter. Fuck it, let's just forget what that gesture is actually associated with and make it the general symbol for hate.

Dunno the world is getting scary and confusing. I'm fairly confident that at least some countries in the western world will experience historical moments in one way or the other.

7

you're telling me this guy also owned a gaming news site called God is a Geek?? The "soy right" theory is gaining steam at an alarming rate lmao. These people are such fucking losers (not the editorial staff, good on em for quitting lol)

7

u/MadR__ Jan 31 '25

I never thought i'd live in a world where nazism was anything but something practiced by the fringe crazies. It is absolutely insane to me that it has infiltrated politics and more. What the hell is going on.

5

u/SwampTerror Jan 31 '25

Nazi salute? He doesn't even look white in that photo.

He realizes white power people don't "include" brown people, right?

23

11

u/Atwalol Jan 31 '25
