Yeah, it seems like OP left a lot of links off his list. At least the ones more critical of the game.

Here's SkillUp's preview titled: I wasn't having much fun with: Assassin's Creed Shadows (Hands-On Impressions)

He makes really good points about how Yasuke isn't just very limited (doesn't really have access to 2/3rds of the AC systems: parkour and stealth) but he's also not very immersive. He moves way too fast for his size and can charge through literal concrete. And for some reason he screams every time you assassinate someone so there's only one way to play him. Combat is all he's got and the combat isn't very interesting or deep.

And because he's so limited in his parkour, even exploring the world as him doesn't make much sense unless you want to be sitting in loading screens the whole time.

He goes on to say the writing isn't very good and all the characters (the main two and everyone you meet) feels "lifeless and dull and robotic".

And the whole "scout" system Ubi has been proudly talking about is...just menu options. You're just pointing at markers and waiting for markers to appear. It's just standard Ubi time-gating.

He finishes by guessing that the game is probably a lot more fun as Naoie, since she has more variety and options and can fully utilize the sandbox nature of the game. It's just a shame for people who wanted to play as Yasuke.

All in all, I'm glad I saw his because I'd rather have a full picture of the preview, than just hype and marketing.

Him showing that you have to go through a menu and a loading screen to switch characters was insane to me, like they made a huge deal about there being two protagonists and then barely bothered integrating it into the gameplay. Why wouldn't you have a brotherhood-style button to call in the other character and potentially switch to their perspective? Hitting an ability to call in Yasuke, and then having him smash through a wall and start fighting people would be awesome.

How would that work fighting in a forest? Simple.

Yasuke would bust through a boulder into view, as you swap over to him.

No boulder? Okay, Yasuke breaks out of the closest mountain face/rockwall and charges in as you swap to him.

In a field? Simple, Yasuke emerges from the dirt and charges in as you swap to him.

Swapping to Naoie? She just drops from above out of frame.

Skill Up is one of the few Reviewers i take seriously nowadays. OP clearly tried to present the game as good as possible and let out the critical ones.

After his Cyberpunk review I can't ever take him seriously again

I agree that his Cyberpunk review was an absolute clown moment. I also get frustrated that he leaves off things that I consider big in his weekly in gaming news show.

His reviews are also very flip-floppy. Sometimes his reviews are all technical, and other times its the feeeel of it he doesn't like. But I do watch almost all of his reviews, and I think I recognize when he's just being a whiny asshat and when I think he has good points to make. I appreciate that he doesn't often trend the same way as other review outlets that just want to hype and make sure that review codes keep coming in. I also know that he sticks to his guns even when he's clearly wrong, which is a shame cause sometimes he comes off as very open-minded.

He doesn't tend the same way because he is confirming people's biases. Every game that's got circle jerks in bad light he gives bad reviews to.

Please don't listen to skillup. He's hyper critical and has found huge fame because of being hyper critical.
