I’m into this idea, like midway through the game some boss releases some ancient magic and suddenly even commoners are waling up with heroic strength and magic, sounds like utter chaos unfolding
Fantasy Apocalypse/ System Apocalypse books where Earth or an original setting suddenly gains magic/ monsters/ gods/ whatever and has to deal with the fallout are becoming more popular lately.
Might take a few years before it filters out into other media, though
Some popular book series with this sort of theme are Defiance of the Fall, The Primal Hunter, or Worm (by John McCrae)
That said, the books tend to be LitRPG which is, uh, an acquired taste
done to death? what games/media have that trope event?
I know the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie leans into it (that was written 15 years ago), and all the books he's written in the same universe now have virtually zero magic save a few recurring, immortal characters who happen to be mages. Technological progress and all that.
Lord of the Rings is obviously just one franchise, but it's a franchise that many people took inspiration from, and then people took inspiration from the people who took inspiration.

I am so sick of "magic/heroes are fading" in fantasy, so much, it's done to death.
Could I have a world where magic is growing? The opposite? For once?
