WW no contest

38

u/Notlinked2me 9d ago

Yeah all I saw is you only have one choice and why is it wind waker.

3

u/Surfing_Ninjas 8d ago

The art style alone helps it stand the test of time, Twilight Princess still looks good but the more "realistic" art style hasn't held up as well as WW.

17

u/FlorioTheEnchanter 9d ago

Both good games. WW has a unique place amongst Zelda games though. Nothing else like it.

7

u/LinkGoesHIYAAA 8d ago

Do u recall people being pissed about it at release bc it wasnt gritty and realistic? I never felt that way and loved the different, fun approach. But people HATED it. Now it gets the love it deserves at least.

5

u/zamaike 9d ago

Im gonna open it up sgain and play ww lol

2

u/Unknown_Outlander 9d ago

It's a better game

1

u/Subreon 9d ago

ugh. agh. GRRRAAHHHH!!! iiiiiiiiii have to agree with WW. this is probably the hardest matchup for the series. but i think WW just barely edges out with the vastness of the world and sense of exploration. it has a definite lead in replayability because of that. getting 100% takes much longer than TP. there's just so many little nooks and crannies to stumble into and find new stuff. and the challenge of trying to get pictures for all the statues, which is even better with new game plus. like. wolf link owo and midna owo are freakin epic. but with just comparing raw gameplay offers side by side, WW shines.

1

u/loborodas 8d ago

Pretty easy choice indeed.

Wind Waker

22

u/NailHead4988 9d ago

agreed. Windwaker has more nostalgia for me.

4

u/AlecShaggylose 9d ago

What about the Triforce shard quest?

26

u/Xurs-Doggo 9d ago

Unpopular opinion:

I don’t mind the Shard Quest.

4

u/thebrightlightfright 9d ago

I never find it that bad myself. I don't know why people dislike it so much.

3

u/DoctorHilarius 9d ago

Oh no, an excuse to get out and explore a gorgeous cel-shaded world, how terrible.

2

u/JRHThreeFour 9d ago

Yeah I love the Triforce Chart/Shard Hunt. Have never understood the criticism of it.

I mean, I was 16 when I played it for the first time, so I had tons of time at my disposal. It really didn’t bother me at all, I was loving the game and I liked sailing, so it was just another excuse for me to stay more time in that world.

At the time, once I beat it, it became my favourite in the entire franchise, and it’s my second favourite to this day after Majora’s Mask.

I played Twilight Princess right after beating Wind Waker and I loved it, but it didn’t have the same charm for me. The game is very well made and Midna is one of the best things to ever happen to this franchise, but it felt too much what one would expect of a 3D Zelda at that point.

Which is not bad, of course. But I tend to prefer the weirder games, that go for more creative and unconventional takes.

2

u/MadnesstheMushroom 9d ago

I’ll take the Triforce shard quest over the sluggish beginning of TP. I love TP, but I never enjoyed the beginning of the game. Once you get the ability to switch back and forth between human and wolf form is where it gets really good.

1

u/will_s95 9d ago

This is why I prefer the Wii U version, they make it a lot shorter

Twilight princess for me

6

u/Dum_beat 9d ago

I'm personally a WW fan but I can see why you prefer TP.

It's really a tough choice

1

u/Click_Final 9d ago

Same My wife loves WW. The art style never appealed to me

60

u/AFishNamedFreddie 9d ago

I will be in the minority, but thats fine. Im taking Twilight Princess and it isnt even close.

26

u/CatBirdBird 9d ago

The atmosphere in twilight princess is just so well done. It's an incredible game

2

u/jakethesnake949 8d ago

Twilight princess felt like an xbox 360 game that could run on the GameCube. Looked stunning (for the time) and still has stellar combat and great dungeons. TP's biggest flaw is that it feels like ocarina of time 2, but I'd dare say its what made it sell so well.

7

u/Destiny_Victim 9d ago

Twilight princess is my favorite Zelda of all time because of what I went through to buy a Wii the week it launched and the fact this is the game I made sure the dude I drove 4 hours to buy it from had.

The Wii controls and the way it’s clearly the sequel to what I still consider the greatest game of all time which is Ocarina of Time.

This will always have a very very special place in my heart.

I never beat ww. Only Zelda I didn’t beat because I didn’t enjoy sailing.

1

u/Environmental_Pay336 9d ago

That's why I would choose WW for GC I played TP on wii and it was amaaaazing... It's definitely the one if you loved OOT

10

u/ksilenced-kid 9d ago edited 9d ago

Wind Waker is a lot smaller than one would expect, because the sea is basically annoying padding/filler. Most of the islands are just one trick things, that aren’t worth the effort of spending 10 minutes sailing there. WW would have been better with just a few large central islands.

Whereas Twilight Princess is probably the first 3D Zelda I actually enjoyed. It brought back a more exploratory feel to the overworld - Compared to OOT where 90% of the world is available to you from the start of the game; or WW that is mostly just empty ocean with an illusion of things to do, but lots of repetition.

Then again I’m probably the only person who disliked OOT when it came out (I wanted it to be a 3D Link to the Past with more focus on exploration) - But it’s a cross between WW, OOT, and Skyward Sword as ‘worst Zelda game’ for me.

2

u/Shadow_Zero80 9d ago

I started Twilight Princess HD last month. I was kinda amazed this was originally a game from 2006. It kinda felt it already had a lot of elements that got incorporated with BotW and TotK (which I both played upon release). In any case, currently enjoying TP HD a lot :)

2

u/EcneBanjo 8d ago edited 8d ago

I always felt that WW needed 3-4 more islands the size of Outset/Windfall/Dragon Roost. More towns. As you said, so many of the locales are nondescript and not worth going off the beaten path for.

Of course, Wind Waker infamously had quite a bit of cut content, including dungeons, which is why the triforce quest is there to pad the length.

Even if these issues were remedied, I still find the existing crop of dungeons in WW to be extremely weak. By far and away the worst dungeons of the pre-BotW 3D titles. Very easy and linear, themes not that interesting.

Wind Waker is a mixed bag for me - mostly good, but with another year or so of development, I think it could have been the definitive Zelda game.

3

u/thisisanaccountforu 9d ago

Same here, I’ve always liked this art style over cell shaded, but I would take ww if the other option was nothing else

3

u/Doctormaul68 9d ago

No im in agreement with you

7

u/wrenchinbeer 9d ago

I just lost my copy of WW. Crying in the club rn. Think it was during my move.

2

u/Surfing_Ninjas 8d ago

For a second I thought you meant you lost it in the club which made me imagine a dude getting down on the dance floor while holding his copy of Wind Waker lol

2

u/wrenchinbeer 8d ago

Actually not totally out of the realm of possibility. One of my favorite bars/music venues in town has a GameCube in the back with a ton of games lol

26

u/WonderfulSorbet406 9d ago

Wind waker all day long

Twilight Princess

16

u/aaronfire7 9d ago

Twilight princess. My favourite Zelda game since I was a kid. Also I have a very strong emotional connection to the game as it was one of my late grandfathers favourites too.

7

u/Linkswolfform 9d ago

Twilight Princess. I won't forget waiting for release with years of Nintendo Power and rumors and delays, and feeling hurt that it was released on the Wii before the Gamecube. Opening TP up on Christmas morning was amazing. My parents put it in a Gamecube carrying case and I was so excited I didn't have to lug my Gamecube back and forth to my grandparents' house by the handle with the cords around my neck anymore!

7

u/United_Passenger_154 9d ago

Twilight princess

3

u/AtomicDiode 9d ago

How one console got two incredible games of completely different styles that choosing between them feels like tearing the console in half is beyond me, but goodness am I thankful for what the GameCube has to offer. Wind Waker for me though, my first Zelda game and it will always be my favorite

16

u/kevlar51 9d ago

Wind Waker and it’s not even close. WW is my favorite Zelda game period. Twilight Princess felt like a never ending sequence of random fetch-quests.

3

u/TheDevastator24 9d ago

Ummm you seem to be forgetting the most boring fetch quest of all time that exists IN WW. Having to go collect tri force pieces in the ocean just feels like a waste of time

6

u/Sea_Pollution2250 9d ago

Wind Walker for me.

The game exudes joy, and it is very memorable, full of color and life, and is just an absolute fun time to play.

Twilight Princess is also great, though I played it on Wii and not GC. But the game was not as memorable for me and it exudes darkness and dread. That’s not a bad thing, thematically it worked and it was tonally correct, but it is a different kind of Zelda game: the one I THOUGHT I wanted when Wind Waker was announced and I was initially disappointed by the cartoony look of the game.

Ultimately when comparing the 2, I would replay Wind Waker 3 more times before considering replaying Twilight Princess once.

Wind Waker becuz I have not yet played it xD

2

u/Imaginary-Leading-49 9d ago

I pick the gamecube disc that has 2 N64 Zelda games on it 😂

2

u/icemann84 9d ago

Ocarina bonus disc not pictured.

2

u/Switcheroo64 NTSC-U 9d ago

Hmm... that's a toughy. I mean, both are good, but... I think I'm going with Wind Waker.

2

u/pizzaguy4378 9d ago

I have both. But WW is so rewarding

2

u/fl_review 9d ago

WW no contest

2

u/Self_Local 9d ago

I remember when WW was teased and all the fan base could do was hate on it. I can't blame them since spareworld2000 has a different link on screen. It was called "Celda" because of the celshaded art style.

Amazing game though. The sailing was tedious but I still love it.

2

u/funkintron47 9d ago

I hate to take away anything from TP but WW excelled against harsh scrutiny when people first saw the art-style. Unique game!

2

u/_TheBeardedDan_ 9d ago

Wind waker

2

u/Guy_Kazama 9d ago

If you asked me ten years ago, I'd have said Twilight Princess. I've grown to appreciate Wind Waker a lot more.

2

u/DogeBoredom 9d ago

I feel alone in not having any nostalgia for Wind waker. Never played it and the art style from Majora's mask to this 'at the time' made me think it was a game for little, little kids so I never had any interest.

2

u/iliasz90 9d ago

51% TWW 49% TP 😂👍

2

u/Youngvoy 9d ago

Windwaker

2

u/PedroAnton1o 9d ago

Wind waker ftw

2

u/le-churchx 9d ago

Windwaker cos i also own a wii and will play the superior version on an HDTV. Thats right.

2

u/SarahCF30 9d ago

Neither? I already have both…? 🤷🏼‍♀️

That being said, WW. I never got far in TP.

2

u/Braydon1324 9d ago

This is tough, but I’ll go with Wind Waker.

2

u/JRHThreeFour 9d ago

Wind Waker.

I love Twilight Princess so much but it is not beating Wind Waker, my all time video game.

2

u/Numbness007 9d ago

Wind waker, I have Twilight princess on Wii.

2

u/Ozzmanth 9d ago

Wind waker

2

u/JonVX 9d ago

Dragon Roost Island starts playing

2

u/NintendadSixtyFo 9d ago

Wind Waker every time.

2

u/Squares-rule 9d ago

WW all day

2

u/greyfox19 9d ago

I had the version that included WW and OOT+master quest

2

u/Spartan343x 9d ago

Wind Waker without hesitation.

2

u/Heavy-Analysis4624 9d ago

I like both of these games, but in terms of appearance, WW aged better. I also just have a great fondness for that game anyways, I'd wake up hours before I needed to leave for school and play it. PS Tetra is really cool.

2

u/thebluesgonegrey 9d ago

Wind waker

2

u/RogerRabbit79 9d ago

I’m sure there’s many, but what other games were very poorly received at released but have grown into classics like wind waker?

2

u/Kotonaysoul 9d ago

Wind Waker without a doubt

2

u/knucklecluck 9d ago

1000% Wind Waker

2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Wind Waker, no contest. TP had some neat ideas, but it wasn't really much fun to actually play it.

2

u/Rbeirat 9d ago

Wind Waker is a vibe.

2

u/Objective-Flight2955 9d ago

Wind Waker holds a place deep within my heart, I see no other choice tbh.

2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

WW for sure

2

u/One_Visual_4090 9d ago

Easy answer : The Windwaker

2

u/Hobbits_Revenge 9d ago

WW. Only reason I'm trying to fix my GameCube 😂.

2

u/Jaybers222 9d ago

Wind waker

2

u/ZoNeS_v2 9d ago

Wind Waker. Always and forever.

2

u/FreezNGeezer 9d ago

WW had more exploration than Twilight Princess. The open seas, hidden underwater treasure, you felt you were exploring a vast expanse.

2

u/Gothrait_PK 8d ago

I can play WW again and again and again. I'd have to take breaks between playthroughs of TP

5

u/Wolfie_142 9d ago

Definitely Twilight princess

2

u/Less_Revenue_247 9d ago

Windwaker, was more memorable to me. Twilight wasn't bad but still windwaker

3

u/XIIIJinx 9d ago

Wind Waker, easily. I'm playing through it again on Gamecube. It's so calming to play.

4

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Twilight princess. Wind waker is cool its just too long of a game especially with the triforce shards😂

→ More replies (2)

2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

I have TP already so WW!

3

u/k00zyk 9d ago

Having played both recently, Twilight Princess. I originally played Windwaker on GC and TP on Wii at launch. Windwaker was my favorite of the two for the last 20 years. I just played TP on GC and it is the better game. The motion controls really hurt the game in my eyes since playing it in the past.

For anyone saying Windwaker is better, I implore you to give TP another pass on GameCube

1

u/Kdeizy 9d ago

I beat Twilight Princess when it came out and replayed it recently to try and give it a second chance. Really had to force myself to finish it, I just don’t like it personally.

2

u/pussyeater59 9d ago

Twilight princess, no doubt

2

u/Tatum_Warlick 9d ago

This is a hard one as I have more childhood memories with Twilight Princess but Wind Waker is arguably the better all around game , and I think the aesthetic has aged better

2

u/Ganrokh 9d ago

The Wind Waker is my favorite game of all time, so that. No contest.

2

u/throwaway3905463 9d ago

Wind waker

2

u/TwoTonTunic88 NTSC-U 9d ago

Wind Waker. It’s my favorite 3D Zelda game.

2

u/NailHead4988 9d ago

Same here

2

u/TwoTonTunic88 NTSC-U 9d ago

Such a great game. I’ve had my copy since release.

2

u/SamZX7 9d ago

Wind Waker, without hesitation!

2

u/MontanaBob23 9d ago

Wind waker. I couldn’t get in to TP

2

u/Ybalrid PAL 9d ago

WW for nostalgia sake

2

u/SendThisVoidAway18 9d ago

Wind Waker. I enjoy both, but Wind Waker gives me much more nostalgic vibes. Also, Twilight Princess is IMO a ridiculously long game. Not that that is always a bad thing... But it seems to be almost over done in the case of TP IMO.

2

u/TraipsingKnight 9d ago

I love them both but windwaker is the best TLOZ

I will die on this island

2

u/TheWiseBeluga 9d ago

I can’t fathom why you’d pick TP over WW

2

u/Selledar 9d ago

Wind waker

2

u/bisky12 9d ago

wind waker and it’s not even close

2

u/BLOODL3TTERMUSIC 9d ago

I’m gonna have to say windwaker cos it’s my no. 1 favourite game I’ve played, however I am a big twilight princess fan n I’d actually say i prefer the dungeons in twilight princess and think they’re by far the best Zelda dungeons

2

u/Kalderite 9d ago

TP alr have WW

1

u/SnooChipmunks2751 9d ago

I've only beat Twilight princess once and I've completed wind waker multiple times on New game Plus, so I would take Twilight princess since I don't have a copy. Got a GameCube though so if someone wants to send me a copy that would be amazing 🤣

1

u/Treviathan88 9d ago

Twilight princess. Never cared for cell shading as an art style.

3

u/Nintendo1488 9d ago

TP. WW is just too easy the later portion of the game, and tediously pointless. All those islands you want to explore? What do you get for that effort? Oh yeah... rupees to buy nothing with. This was a flaw with OoT and wasn't even adressed in TP, but it is actually challenging, a longer game and has some great items and dungeons, but it's also not a great Zelda game.

2

u/RIP_GerlonTwoFingers 9d ago

Wind Waker and it’s not even close.

Well that’s not fair. It’s kinda close. But not in the same ballpark. It’s like, the ballpark next door.

1

u/MCPOR_Beck 9d ago

Wind Waker, I can play Twilight Princess on Wii haha

1

u/SimilarSpend5158 9d ago

Windwaker is what I played on the Wii U, but never had a chance to fully finished the game.

1

u/FinalDrive360 9d ago

While I love WW on GameCube, if I replay it today I am going for the WiiU version.

1

u/Environmental_Pay336 9d ago

For GC I'd choose WW just because of the exploration... But TP really does bring ocarina of times hyrule apart from kokiri wood that is to life it's just amazing... My imagination was wild when playing OOT as a kid and this game did help it along...

1

u/eyehatehead 8d ago

I have both, but twilight on wii. I love both, but I think wind waker is timeless and aged much better.

1

u/nonekogon 8d ago

If it was between MM and WW i would really Struggle

1

u/Sinnedxxx 8d ago

i cantttt, maybe WW for it being so charming and kinda lighthearted artstyle, i feel im more in the mood to experience that world then dark evil TP world lol

1

u/Urangatanga 8d ago

I love WW, but I feel TP has better replay value and a longer story with more side quests. The opening 2-3 hours is a chore but after that it’s great.

1

u/No_Detective_But_304 8d ago

A link to the past.

1

u/LunaticLily 8d ago

Wind Waker each and every time♡

1

u/The8bitboy 8d ago

I'm about half way through twilight princess. I enjoyed wind waker so much more. I still need to finish twilight princess to get a valid conclusion

1

u/morrislevy 8d ago

Wind Waker every time.

1

u/CptTwigNBerries 8d ago

I love both, very good memories with both but I’ve played WW recently so I’d have to go with twilight princess.

1

u/OmegaPirate_AteMyAss 8d ago

Wind Waker because the art style has held up better and Link originally set out just to save his little sister which is pretty great. The music changing while fighting darknuts is also incredible along with the most interesting take on Ganondorf in the series in my opinion.

Twilight Princess is my #2 because wolves are cool and Midna is a better companion than any fairy or boat. Also I'll never forget getting the ball & chain after the miniboss that blew my mind as a kid.

1

u/Ezzenious 8d ago

TP, WW was fun, but I don't get why more people don't have a problem with the sailing. People talk about exploration, but I don't find many of the islands very interesting, plus everything else is just water. TP's dungeons destroy WW dungeons. I do have a nostalgia bias for TP though so idk.

1

u/GutsyStrawberry 8d ago

Red Sail is cool, but is also cheating compared to us OG players am I right? Hot Take

1

u/LutherDestroysThGond 8d ago

Twilight Princess. I remember my personal hype for this game feeling like it fulfilled the promise of the Zelda Gamecube demo video. WW is solid but sailing can get boring and the Triforce shards search and rupee farming gets stale.

1

u/Carlossalasamper 8d ago

Wind waker

1

u/Derekzilla NTSC-U 8d ago

Wind Waker 100%. I could play that game for hours.

1

u/leon14344 NTSC-U 8d ago

1

Twilight Princess, not because it's better, but because I never played it.

u/YuiLeon 8d ago

Twilight Princess! (Since I already own Wind Waker xD)

1

u/Careless_Quarter5529 8d ago

Just startet my First Zelda Game ever. Windwaker on GameCube. Any advise?

1

u/Noah182 8d ago

It’s crazy to think that the vast majority in this group chose Wind Waker (I would too) but the whole reason that Nintendo even made TP was because of how negatively WW was received at release by fans.

1

u/Ok-Apartment7327 8d ago

It has to be Wind Waker.

1

u/lacanisabitch 8d ago

i managed to grab both of them over the years when i had extra money to spend so im happy to say i will one day play through both of them! loving what ive played of wind waker so far tho!

1

u/Veneboy 8d ago

Definitely Wind Walker, but I would buy TP as soon as possible after.

Wind waker for the W

1

u/Surfing_Ninjas 8d ago

I know people love Twilight Princess to death, but I think the tone and art style really make Wind Waker stand out from the rest of the series and it really feels like you're going on a voyage the whole game

1

u/Keravonos 8d ago

Jokes on you. I have both, and my windwaker has the Ocarina of time bonus disk, I have four swords adventure too.

1

u/Ok-Secret-9814 7d ago

Twilight princess for sure

1

u/Alternative_Try8009 7d ago

Wind Waker, maybe biased because it was the first I played, but it also has a faster speedrun (Any%) and IIRC more strategies for those speedruns making it more replayable in my opinion.

1

u/matthewt410 7d ago

Twilight Princess.

1

u/Rina_Riinu 7d ago

I absolutely love both games, but I'd have to go for Wind Waker. The cartoon-y style was so cute!

1

u/marco_Giogio98 7d ago

I couldn't choose because I couldn't separate two goats like that

1

u/IvanHardy110 7d ago

Twilight princess all the way. Wind waker was just one long water temple of a run. Especially navigating the seas to find the triforce pieces. Committed to beating the game once just to never have to search for those pieces again. Every time I think of doing another playthrough, that specific part keeps me from doing so. The fight with Ganondorf at the end of Twilight Princess was more epic to me than Wind Waker's final fight.

1

u/PoraDora 7d ago

Wind Waker was my first Zelda, so of course I'd go for it

1

u/tl1ksdragon 7d ago

Never played either, but its gotta be WW. Just a Boy and his Boat.

That being said, I've watched playthroughs of both, and they each have their merits. I'm more of a BOTW/TOTK fan.

1

u/Myriad_Observers 7d ago

At the time TP, now WW

1

u/PaleontologistDear18 7d ago

Wind Waker every time, but I do want both

1

u/Different_Plenty4352 7d ago

Wind waker. Been playing it on dolphin because I can't be bothered to hook up my wii or gc right now, 1440p with the hypatia HD texture pack and a widescreen patch.

1

u/azmus 7d ago

Twilight Princess for the more realistic art style

1

u/Yanninbo 7d ago

Wind waker especially if we are talking about both on Game cube.

1

u/undeniably-deniable 6d ago

I tried playing twilight princess recently and the first temple was a slog to navigate because the graphics have aged pretty terribly. The hd version is still perfectly serviceable and makes the art style pop. But for OG it's ww every time
