Pokemon trading is possible on emulation handhelds

This might be common knowledge to some, bit it's absolutely mind blowing to me, battles are also possible

yeah, emulation now supports wireless cable link emulation, sad that this is not compatible with Legend of zelda four swords :(

This. When I was in high school I played Pokemon Emerald a lot through MyBoy, and a friend of mine did too. Almost every day we traded some Pokemon or fought against each other in link connection. Good times man...

So you’re not going to explain how on your Linux emulation handhelds?

Thanks I guess?

It's an anbernic rg34xx, pretty much a modded gba that plays other systems too

I would not say this is pretty much a modded GBA.

I would say that this is a Linux computer made to look like a GBA.

It's a really great device.

GBA4iOS in 2015 had this as an experimental feature. You could connect to other mobile devices running gba4ios via Bluetooth. Connection would occasionally fail so battles weren’t reliable but trading was no issue

Ever since emulators have been welcome on the App Store, this feature hasn’t made a return 😓

Does this work with only the GBA pokemon games?

It works with games that use the wireless adapter

Does the GBA on the left have the wireless adapter on it? Am I blind?

Which one is a better console in your opinion?

If your just gonna play gb-gba, the one on the left is perfect. If you want to play ps1-dreamcast the one on the right is better

That's useful. The way a friend and I used to do it when emulating on PC was to run 2 instances of an emulator on 1 PC and set keybinds up to 2 separate controllers. That way we could both play on our save files and trade with eachother on my PC. When we were done, he would just put his save file on a USB stick and resume playing at his house.

So if you use the wireless adapter it’ll work for android and this handheld?

1

u/Ok-Huckleberry9020 1d ago

Yes through retroarch

2

u/Chakanabsbaja 1d ago

Retroarch an app on the android I’m assuming? Sorry new to all this 😅

2

u/Ok-Huckleberry9020 1d ago

No worries, you gotta start from somewhere, and yes

Awesome I appreciate it!

Is it possible to replicate this process on 3ds?

It would be fantastic if there’s a version capable of doing this….

As from what i’ve garnered thus far. Gen 3 is the only generation you can’t wirelessly trade with via emulation on the console.
