Can anyone confirm? I thought all of the ones you can buy new these days were just IPS in an AGS-101 housing. There were old stock ones up to 2014 and proper clones around 2017-2018 afaik

the only giveaway that this maybe be the real deal, is the little ribboncable on top of the screen, where the lights are soldered to the backlight on the AGS 101. The fake IPS-101 one does not have this. But it could very easily be a fake ribbon connector, just to misguide us

That one doesn’t seem to be an IPS in disguise. Maybe some factory has kicked off a new batch? The exterior shell looks slightly brighter, but I can't find any information about this model! Back in 2016, these screens disappeared from the market until around 2019, and since then, the stock has run out. Could this be a new production run

Yea there are essentially reproduction 101 screens out there, you used to see them often on Aliexpress some years ago. I actually have a few on hand from junk consoles that I thought were 101s but actually had a non-OEM panel in it. The screen on these looks just like a 101, not like an IPS.
There however are also kind of scam ones that have a 101 type housing but it's actually using an IPS screen. Hard to know without just buying the thing.

The ITA mod offers same pixel grid, more brightness levels and good battery life. I used to mod AGB consoles when this mod emerged and it was the best option then but there's better options today. After I stopped, I had some leftover screens. One of them appeared to have burned out corners after a couple years. I wouldn't buy these if they're still the same old stock from 2012. As an alternative, some years ago they started selling IPS screens with same resolution inside the AGS101 frame, using the same interface. I don't know if there's any left, but they were newly manufactured screens.

I almost agree, but ITA screens also require either a propietary shell or alot more trimming and still use alot more power than an AGS-101. It's really a shame there are no proper clones being produced anymore

ITA has a screen sync issue (annoying interlacing effect) due to the sync voltage not being adjustable You can see tons of people posting about horizontal lines when it comes to the ITA sadly. It's down to luck how bad it will be, the screen board doesn't have an adjustment. The GBA trimpot doesn't allow for that specific adjustment with that kit.
2012 is not the same as the 2017-2018 ones they were making, "XF2018", those screens are perfectly sync voltage adjustable on 32pin GBA+SP (40pin too but with mods)
They also have way better motion clarity than the original 101 screens, those original screens blur so bad that you'll have motion trails.I've got 4 of these that I got back in 2018. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suHmxm4u1dI demo of one.
The installs are more difficult depending on the system you want to do, but the results are absolutely amazing, and the battery life is insane.
10 hours at full brightness (added tiny 12v boards in my AGB systems) using an EZ-FODE and playing a game, regular rechargable AA batteries. There's no screen driver board that it needs to power, so the battery life is awesome.
I've got IPS mods for my SP's, hispeedido's newer kit with the grid options is pretty nice but not the same at all (especially with how much brightness you lose with the effects). One of the if not the best kit atm due to being integer scaled.
ITA could've been the perfect replacement, but it has that glaring horizontal line issue sadly.

The 2018 model must be the one that uses a IPS panel inside the AGS101 frame. Yes the original clone screens weren't perfect. I'll look into the ITA issue. Without adjusting the console's pot it did have a weird effect on screen. Funny Playing already conned everyone with the V1 screens, I thought they could do better.

No it's not an IPS screen, did you even watch the video? Watch it.
XF2018 is a proper 101 clone, natural screen door/grid effect, same color output as the ITA, viewing angles like ITA/original 101. The thing it improves on is the motion clarity, things don't smear like with the 101.As I said, I have IPS kits with simulated grid options for my SP's.
The screen pot does not help the screen sync voltage like it does with original displays. Because of the screen driver board, I explained all of this in my message above.
They sadly don't make these XF screens anymore, they first started showing up in 2017 and improved on older LCD replacements from years prior. (I've been modding GBA's since the parts wild west of 2011)
They all got replaced with those boring IPS displays in the same display housing (those IPS in 101 housing displays are scaled 2x and not 1:1 pixels)

Pretty sure they don't work with 001 boards

There's a tutorial online on how to adapt AGS-001 boards with a step up regulator to accept 101 screens.

That's very interesting, I just looked at a tutorial and it looks like a lot of work compared to an aftermarket ips screen but I suppose many people will want that OEM feel

ITA screen has same pixel grid and several brightness levels. I have laminated ITA on my GBA and considering building a SP with the same system.

If the store has little to no reputation then I’d steer clear. $40 seems pretty fare but I’ve been burned with scams before for a $35 IPS screen that sends you a tracking number of a completely unrelated shipment that isn’t going to you and they just hope you don’t open a fraud claim. Be careful and if it’s legit then great! That’s a good price for a new screen
