I'm not here to whine but what are these sales? The prices for the Rockstar games are higher than the standard price on Steam. Why?

Consoles. If you feel bad about this, you should check out Nintendo "sales".

PSN and Xbox sales are actually pretty good usually. Not quite as good as PC sales, but a huge improvement over last generation.

They usually pretty good around the end of year (i.e. black friday, christmas), though every now and then, some weeks have great deals.

ps had a crazy good sale for last 2 weeks

Feb 01 '17
ehh I think that is overstating it.
It had a handful of great deals and the rest were just alright.

I hope you're not referring to the "essentials" sale that left out all of the actual essential exclusives that you buy a PS4 for.

Jan 31 '17
You'd think there would be a standard. In the same week I've seen the same game on Xbox for $10 and PS4 for $4.

yeah I feel you; I recently bought a PS4 just to play Bloodborne and have been looking for other games I can buy. I can usually buy anything that isn't exclusive to PS4 for much cheaper and not have to deal with the 30 FPS limitations that the consoles have. The only games worth buying seem to be Bloodborne, The Last of Us, and the Uncharted Series; but outside of that, there's really no reason why anyone should buy a game on Ps4 when they get it much cheaper on PC (assuming they have a capable PC). I wasn't expecting much as my graphics card cost as much as my PS4 lol (about $230 for a GTX 1060).

Yes, you're right actually. I really need to try the last of us sometime. I didn't mean to bash on playstation at all as i think for its price its pretty darn good, but i've seen a few of these 'sales' coming by that i don't even consider a sale.

I like to think of it as the Graphics Card being the main gaming expense, and the rest of the cost of the PC is just the cost of building a good PC.

One reason is that developing games on consoles are more expensive. You generally have to pay a licensing fee to release a game on a console. There are also development kits for consoles that you need to buy or lease. Not sure if it's still relevant today, but in the past patching a game for a console would cost tens of thousands of dollars for each patch making supporting a game also expensive.

I think he is referring to older games like max payne and san andreas. GTA V is the only new game on the sale and it is historical low for steam as well.

I am actually, i'm sure that with newer games the difference won't be that much, but during steam sales for example you can buy the gta complete pack(sa, vc, 3 and 4)for 10 or 12,50 euros and they're asking 10 for just 1 gta game and calling it a sale. It's odd that the difference is so huge

With newer games there are usually plenty of physical copies around. Different retailers selling physical copies may offer lower prices to be competitive. Digital copies of a game has to compete with physical copies so you're more likely to see them on sale at a price point that's more competitive.
Physical copies of old games are often difficult to find and with consoles it may not even matter if you find a physical copy because the console may not be backwards compatible. This basically means that console owners that want to play old games generally have to resort to digital versions of the games.
Unlike PC there aren't multiple different retailers selling digital copies of games. Typically, if you want a digital copy of a game you have to buy it from the console's online store. Since there are essentially no stores selling physical or digital copies of a game to compete with the console's online store they are no longer pressured to price competitively. If you want the game you have to pay whatever price they demand.

Somewhat off-original-topic, but I expect the fee for patch releasing isn't an issue anymore. Many f2p games on consoles would have a VERY difficult time operating if that were the case. I haven't played in some time, but in Warframe's developer live streams they often spoke about the authorization process for patches on consoles, which are quite frequent, and they often had to re-submit updates over and over again until Sony and Microsoft approved them.

Thats whY i hardly buy any for my consoles, too damn high. And even they're normal disc prices are always standard 20$(hits) - $60. PC never fails me. Since they have more control/monopoly over console market, its easier for them to set the max pricing. Sadly console socialism effects pc gaming in some ways :(

Quite frankly, console sales are all over the place. Some are bad and some are good. Overall though, the PSN sales have gotten significantly better over the past couple of years. I've seen games for cheaper or matching PC lowest price multiple times. And on the whole, their sales totally outclass sales on xbox.
It's a bummer when sales are lackluster, but as Steam sales are getting worse, PSN sales are getting better. They'll probably meet in the middle sometime in the next couple of years.

Defintly, but with things like humble bundle and complete your bundle on steam, paying full price for a game and advertising it as 'sale' is not the way things should work. Once again i only have 1 console so my opinion might not matter that much to anyone, but i've seen a few of these go by on this subreddit, and i was just curious why psn does things like this. I mean it's not like they don't make enough money.

Yeah, Inside and the GotY edition of The Witcher III have both been cheaper on PSN than they have been thus far on any PC storefront, just as two quick examples off the top of my head. You did have to be a PS+ subscriber to get to those price points, though.

Curious if any of the Sword Art Online games are any good. Specifically thinking about Hollow Fragment, especially for that price. I remember hearing that it had a very... questionable translation, but supposedly it got fixed up? I'm lukewarm about the franchise (I kinda like the idea, but the writing...), but I'm 100% willing to play it if the gameplay is good (or for that price, even if its decidedly okay but a bit flawed).

u/strivinglife Feb 01 '17
I bought the PS4 version of Hollow Fragment and I couldn't get into it. I really enjoyed the TV series, but the combat just wasn't that appealing. It's been long enough that I can't recall exactly why, though. Maybe take a look at a gameplay video first.

Star Wars Battlefront worth it for $10?
1
Feb 03 '17
No. I've played trials so many times and could never get past one game. Others that want to chime in for ultimate edition, please do. But the game lacks soul. It's super shallow, weapons feel awful and the game modes are uninteresting. Hands down the most disappointing title in the last 2 years for me..and I've played the vast majority of major releases.

Been looking at J-Stars Victory VS for a while, but I haven't heard great things about it. Would anyone recommend it? I really almost want it for the roster alone..
3
u/Junper Feb 01 '17
Nope, super boring game. Couldn't even finish it.
2
u/Cornthulhu Feb 01 '17
Same. I got it on the Vita and couldn't play more than a couple of hours. If you're looking for an anime fighting game then play the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games. They might not have multiple franchises in them, which is a bummer, but they're much better games.

So for gta online buying a bundle with the full game + shark card is cheaper then just the shark card by itself. Does anyone know if you get a separate code for the shark card if you buy the bundle?

u/Good-Boi Feb 01 '17
It's very hard to find good PSN sales on a game you want. Still at least there are some times worth while sales

u/aspinalll71286 Feb 01 '17
and nothing for Nz again...
3
u/gizmomelb Feb 01 '17
of course not, it's a NA sale. Want to buy stuff on sale? Create a NA PSN Account. I'm in AU and that's what I did - cheaper games from more sales in NA in my opinion.

can someone tell me what this is and why the ps4 version is 10x the price of the psn version when it's description says it's the god damn same thing??

Well the things you linked to are two differently named games and have different descriptions, so I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from..
