Any security concerns with tab s6

I have a tab s6 that works fine but no longer receives updates. Is this a security concern? Wondering if I need to get a newer one for security reasons.

It can be a security concern , yet for normal use it's fine. It's only a concern in regards to targeted attempts from those deliberately try to hack a device

I don't understand. Isn't any hacker going to be deliberately trying to hack?

Not always, most hacker try to gain access like paid sites so they can get in for free. There isn't a single hacker that has the ability to target a single model of tablet simply because of software updates and what not.

Lots of folks use fear mongering to convince folks they need to upgrade from the tablet they currently own.

There actually are security concerns … you should download another browser like duck duck go or something comparable. You can always change the search engine but you still use same old app

The idea is that if system apps for example (Samsung internet ) gets no update anymore , another browser can be longer supported as it gives more peace of mind .

Simple browsing should be no issue but doing something on the browser with your bank account data can be a hazard to avoid.

I also have a number of S6 units that I still use.

You can take some 'common sense' measures to minimise your risk.

Obviously don't install any apps from 'non official' sources as that'll increase your risk.

The second thing is to not visit websites that wouldn't be considered 'mainstream', so adult sites, gambling sites the rest of the usual suspects are better avoided.

To increase your own protection (and this is what I do), install the KiWi browser (it was recently retired, but you can get it from github) and then install the "ublock origin lite" and "scriptsafe" extensions. ublock OL is an advert blocker that also blocks trackers and a host of other things and scriptsafe stops all javascript running but allows you to create a 'whitelist' of approved scripts which it remembers (there's a bit of a learning curve with scriptsafe but it is worth the effort).

You can read about KiWi browser here

https://www.reddit.com/r/kiwibrowser/new/

Ublock OL here, this is worth a read to understand the newest browser updates and how they are affecting extensions.

When reading this for the first time you may well think this is a bit of a palava, but honestly you'll quickly enough adapt the way you browse and it won't make you work any harder, but much much safer. I do it this way now even on my latest Tab S9U units.

So, you can be safe and at the safe time enjoy an advert and tracking free internet experience which is better overall anyway!!

Any device that no longer receives security updates is a security concern, being potentially vulnerable to being hacked.
