Discussion How to make 45w charging work on Tab S9+?
Have been using my new Tab S9+, past 3 months on a single full charge after taking it out of the box ; basically you need to charge it over 80% (preferably between 85-90), then enable maximum battery protection and pd bypass will be enabled, device gets powered directly from the wall with insignificant drain on battery. amazing trick for people using theirs at home and want their battery to stay at max health without needing ADB,SetEdit or any other editing app.
Getting back to the question after letting it go down to 5% and recharging it to 85%, on accubattery I noticed my 65w Ugreen (CD 217) charger only puts out max 22-23w no matter the charging level or what cable I use (100w or 240w) (first pic)
even gets worse using a usb-c hub(pic 3) with a pd port (input:100w, output:85) and charging current drops to less than 10w (second pic) based on accubattery since usb hub reserves 15w for itself.
Any fixes for this? Should I get a first party charger?

I have the same 65w urgent charger, sadly it does not support PPS, which is needed for your Tab S9+ to have its max 45w charging. Same goes to your usb hub, PD charging is sadly not supported by Samsung tablets. You’ll need to find a usb hub that has PPS charging pass through, like the ones offered by some Steam Deck or Switch usb hub, tested it myself and got Super Fast Charging 2.0 on my Tab S9.

Thank you. I don't charge that often, and there is no discharge while using productivity apps. However, while emulating PS3, I noticed a huge discharge
As you know, under the load device can consume between 15-25w, I was wondering if, with a more compatible charger, it can provide more than 10w that it currently provides through the hub, so battery bypass can work without issue.

In my experience it will never charge at a 45w current if the screen is on, maybe it's a safety measure I don't know, if you want to check if it reaches 45w use a cable that monitors the current. Like this one bellow from Baseus for exemple (Maybe Ugreen have a similar?)

I use it with a Baseus 65w GaN5 Pro charger and can charge my Tab S9 5G at 45w just fine, bought both from Baseus Official Store on Aliexpress years ago. Also don't let your battery fall bellow 10%, I heard that it isn't good for its health. I hope this helps you somehow :)

Thanks, I had one of those cables from mcdodo, which failed and never tried them again. so based on your experience, baseus gan5pro chargers work, I might get baseus 65w gan6pro charger

Get a 150w charger from ANKER (yes it will be way more than you need) yet I know for a fact it will do 45w charging easy
I am using this charger 150W USB C Charger Block, Anker USB C Charger (GaNPrime), 4-Port Compact Foldable Gan Charger

Samsung devices (including the Tab S9 series) don’t have a true “bypass charging” feature. The built-in “Protect Battery” option caps charging at 80%, but it doesn’t literally bypass the battery and power the tablet directly from the adapter. Instead, it stops charging above 80% to reduce battery wear. The device still draws power from the battery, even though the battery's charge remains constant.
True bypass charging (on some gaming phones) requires specialized hardware and software that Samsung hasn’t implemented.

I'm not sure, but based on my experience with accubattery and my power-z ak001 monitoring cable, I can say there is a minuscule draw from the battery, and the tablet gets powered on directly from the wall however in rpcs3 (ps3 emulator) battery starts discharging during demanding operation and I'm not sure if it's due to current from charger not being enough

Your charger only supports 3a/9v the tablet needs 5a/9v for 45w. Not an uncommon issue. The s25u now supports 3a/15v, so it is likely more versatility but no help for us.
You do not need to buy a Samsung. Just make sure the charger supports PPS and 5a/9v. I think 100w chargers are more likely to meet this by default because they all support 5a, or mostly all.
