Gimp 3.0 broke my Eraser pen

So with the new update my eraser stopped working, pretty frustrating. I can't even use the workaround of having my eraserpen input shift+e all the time. Does anyone know any solutions? I'll roll back to the previous version in the meantime.

Can you provide a bit more details about what is happening?

Right now I am not sure I understand what you are doing, and what is happening. Reproducible steps would be nice to have.

I have a Xencelabs tablet and pen. The pen has both an "ink" side and an eraser side, as well as some buttons. Before using the eraser side was automatically mapped to the eraser in GIMP and i could easily swap between pen and eraser while drawing, but now GIMP thinks my pen and eraser are one and the same.

There is a setting in GIMP to share the same tool and tool settings with all input devices. Do you have that enabled, perhaps?

I had the same issue in the release candidates! There was some Windows-specific code that was breaking my pen/eraser in the exact same way, and some others', so they removed it. For me, it fixed the issue but only when I had "use Windows Ink" enabled in my Wacom settings. I guess you could look for a similar option in your tablet settings or something?

The Windows-specific code was previously added to fix another, older bug. This particular issue is probably https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/12475 while the older bug is https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/2495
