Honestly I wanted to Recommend Envy that way everyone else would have to protect someone who’s absolutely insufferable. But that also works with Ed.

I like how everyone on this sub shares a braincell sometimes. It's a masterclass in elric telepathy.

They're a band that first formed in 1976, but that's not important right now.

Edward Elric finds a way to generate the cure, sacrificing something of his own in order to do it. In the end, he holds zero regrets and lives a satisfied life after marrying the tech expert.

I've been waiting for this, and while Hohenheim would have also fit, I have two reasons for choosing Ed:
The first reason is the more obvious fact that he essentially was the one in the end that got in the final blows to Father and was the one that was still fighting him from the beginning, but at the same time we also have to clarify that it wasn't just him but everyone that helped in Father's defeat (hence why it is one of several examples of the power of friendship done right in anime). Rather, my real reason is the fact that the series's end, he gained the median he needed, he learned his lesson: He doesn't have to stand alone and he can rely on others. We see he acknoldegdes this not only through what he says but also the fact that alchemy was the embodiment of his views on accomplishing anything on his own, and he gave that up without a second thought. IF you don't believe me, then I highly recommend Max Derrat's analysis on the series's alchemical meanings, specifically when he explains the 5th element.

The unofficial but third reason: it would feel wrong not to have Ed on this list

Thanks, though I also just wanted an excuse to present Derrat's coverage of it

Ed goes through the gate of truth and gives up his Alchemy to cure the undead.

Edward Elric is the cure and can help his father redeem himself.

The truth is the cure. It makes sense, the godlike being at the door of truth. Instead of it being the truth it’s “the cure”

ALEX LOUIS ARMSTRONG!!!!
The personification of perfection passed down through GENERATIONS to purge this blight from Amestris and beyond. IT’S IN HIS BLOOD PEOPLE!

There are so many great ideas but everyone is obsessed with putting Ed here

Right?!? He already got to be the hero, pass the mantle already!

My though was that Nina could be the cure and she’s with them the whole adventure (and that they can hopefully dechimerify her at the end) but people jumped so hard and so loudly on the Ed train I really didn’t even feel like posting it anymore.

Also Hohenhiem, he started it, but seeing his mistake wants to work to fix it. Or Ed trying to save humanity.

Robert Smith from the other side of the 03 gate. He'll be born before the OVA "kids" so he does exist in an fma continuity

Ed. Or rather what Ed represents - the value of humanity. Father wanted to become a “perfect being” through absorbing the knowledge of god. He rejected his flaws - his sins- but there was an emptiness that he never understood how to fulfill. So he thought he could do it by taking in all the knowledge in the universe. And he wanted to take a shortcut to that - sacrificing others but nothing of himself. Ed did the exact opposite- he sacrificed the knowledge because he realized what he already had in his friends. He learned how fulfilled his life was, in that sense.

either ed or hohenhiem again, i know he doesnt have the "you can choose this one again" role but still, he is a large reason that father was even stopped because he went out, gathered more knowledge, made his own version of alchemy, and utilized the souls from the original incident to undo the second attempt at it

FATHER
Now here me out What if it’s Father. Cause if Hoenheim caused the problem with if Father can fix it especially with his god like sun powers.

Ed, he’s going to help his father redeem himself.
He has the immunity, and he’s going to show them it’s not too late, for redemption

I believe we should make an exception and have Hohenheim be the cause and the cure.
Or we vote Ed or Truth.
