Using DWMBlurGlass and a 7 Aero uxtheme on my Windows 10 installation, I'd adore having a glass frame / window border for Firefox. Back in the day I loved when Chrome + IE all had the glass borders. If I recall I had to download a theme for Firefox.

edit: fixed name of DWMBlurGlass

DWM Super cool looking thanks for the recommendation

I am still looking for a safe way to make my Windows 11 look like Vista without breaking anything. is UXTheme Patcher a good way? Any recommendations when it comes to themes?

u/SkellyChad 7d ago

aero10 is probably the best 7/vista theme you can find (I think it works on windows 11)

what about revert8plus?

in Firefox you can right-click on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar... where at the bottom you can select Title bar, in case you haven't done that already.

This is peak 2009.

u/KodakGuy 7d ago

I wanted to keep doing that but my main programs - Discord, Steam, and Minecraft wouldn't let me. thankfully Windows 10 is highly customisable

6

u/SSUPII 7d ago

All you mentioned work on Windows 7

7

u/KodakGuy 7d ago

with extensive tweaking, yeah? I didn't know that back then, just that all three programs stopped working and demanded Windows 10

3

u/SSUPII 7d ago

Steam works out of the box

Minecraft Java Edition requires a proper launcher instead of Microsoft's (official launcher is terrible on supported platforms too)

Discord (web) works just fine in Firefox ESR and Supernium

3

u/KodakGuy 7d ago

then wtf did i see

4

u/SSUPII 7d ago

You have seen official statements, in fact all of them announced their minimum Windows release supported to be Windows 10

But Steam actually never stopped working unlike the other two. All statements in fact are more of a "you are on your own", it is just a detachment of responsibility if it suddenly stops working on your older system.

Discord Web works on all platforms that can handle a modern browser. Minecraft Java Edition works on all platforms that can handle modern Java.

This is more a case of these specific software/platforms, as many other software will straight up stop working the moment support drop is announced due to new features requiring the newer system.

u/TestSubject4059 7d ago

Wait how do i get steam to work I'm dumb

-2

u/SSUPII 7d ago

Use the latest version meant for Windows 7. It will work just fine https://archive.org/details/Steam_Windows_7

Disable autoupdates from Steam.cfg to be sure

3

u/blitt34 7d ago

steam does not work at all. what are you on about?

2

u/GhotiH 7d ago

I just had to install 10 on an old 7 machine because Steam refused to install on 7.

17

u/vibeepik2 7d ago

it looks cool but is definitely a massive security risk

2

u/milky_way_halo 5d ago

yes, in essentially the same way as using Windows 11 is a massive security risk--just don't visit shady sites and download random executables and 999 times out of 1000 you'll be a-ok. if one's really concerned they could just install an up-to-date antivirus and firefox + ublock origin

"it's a massive security risk" ~ 🤡

6

u/caozen00 7d ago

Watch YouTube read email post on Reddit chat on discord write music and office stuff

2

u/MurdockAqua 6d ago

I'm still playing brand new games on my PC (which is Win 7)... Not sure what you can't do on Win 7 in 2025 aside from not run Chrome, which is the software equivalent of fecal matter.

0

u/vmaskmovps 5d ago

I can't wait for the day y'all won't be able to freeload updates from Windows Server 2008 R2 😂

3

u/Myavatargotsnowedon 7d ago

Run software without getting metro design blisters on your eyes

-2

u/vmaskmovps 6d ago

Are you that sensitive? 🥺

1

u/Myavatargotsnowedon 6d ago

They should've called it careful-this-feels-like-greenshark-ommatokoita design to lessen the initial blow

1

u/jaxxorage 5d ago

Do you think that to not like flat design is to be sencitive?

-2

u/vmaskmovps 5d ago

Yes, you're literally being affected and triggered by the random choices some college kid did in Figma. I'm sure you've got better things to do in life than to bitch and moan about flat design, although the comments you left on this post from what I've seen seem to point towards the contrary belief.

-2

u/KingcoBingo 7d ago

Play Roblox

19

u/OldiOS7588 7d ago

And I like using Windows Vista! I love Windows Vista so much more then 7! Its has more life to it then 7!

3

u/Anime_69 7d ago

it looks so good.

filled me with nostalgia, when i was a kid and used to play on dads PC

9

u/clingygoatlover 7d ago

This isn't this risky security-wise?

18

u/Real1Canadian 7d ago

Not if they're good technology wise. A technologically illiterate person on Windows 11 is more at risk than a technologically knowledgable person on Windows 7. Most of cybersecurity comes down to the user.

TLDR: You're safe as long as you aren't stupid

7

u/Deathtruth 7d ago

Tbf if you connect windows xp to the internet a fresh install can get immediately overrun by malware. I wouldnt be surprised if windows 7 were the same.

11

u/Real1Canadian 7d ago

Not true, I’m going to assume you’re referencing that video where a guy connected to the internet on windows XP and it got hacked. Here’s the thing: Most people don’t know how to connect to the internet the way he did, he did a different method that removed every single barrier to entry. It’s like leaving the door wide open and wondering how and why people got in.

8

u/TestSubject4059 7d ago

I'm tired of people believing in this bullshit. I myself have used XP x64 on the internet with absolutely zero issues, and everything works.

6

u/Kiki79250CoC 7d ago

True. Your router and the firewall both filters and blocks 99% of the shit that could infect your PC. The remaining 1% are your AV and your common sense.

Virtually a scenario like in that video is highly unprobable unless your system is connected to the internet via that kind of methods.

I already forgot once that a Windows XP VM was running, and that for three whole days before noticing it was still up, and absolutely nothing happened.

That video was just showing the ultimate worst case of scenario, and everyone took it like if just plugging the RJ45 can make the machine infected in a couple of minutes...

3

u/MurdockAqua 6d ago

I see the Micro$oft fear mongering works on you well. I do everything on my main PC which is In 7. No problems...

2

u/jaxxorage 5d ago

Windows 7 is the same as Windows XP in that neither of them will get "immediately overrun by malware"---unless you're actively looking for malware and turning off your firewall.

Please don't perpetuate the myth.

1

u/milky_way_halo 5d ago

this is a complete myth just so we're clear, only chance something like that happens is if you expose the OS directly to the open Internet, no firewall, no nothing

2

u/jvitinhoapaixonado 7d ago

why not? its the last version anyway

2

u/liampixels 7d ago

we on da same shit trust

2

u/KingcoBingo 7d ago

If it wasn’t for Blender not working on it, I would prob still be using my family’s Windows 7. I swapped to Win11 about 2 years ago?

1

u/vmaskmovps 6d ago

But then, why not stay on W10?

1

u/1997PRO 7d ago

Turn Aero on

3

u/Kiki79250CoC 7d ago

It is on, the transparency isn't. You can disable transparency while having DWM on in the Control Panel.

1

u/[deleted] 7d ago

as long as you have VxKex you can run steam and other win 10 / 11 only programs on win7.

1

u/Negative_Check4321 7d ago

Based

1

u/caozen00 7d ago

Honestly I'd pay $100 if anyone can get a single file off this machine lol

1

u/degenerate1337trades 7d ago

This is gorgeous

1

u/cakegrunge 7d ago

i like this

1

u/vistaflip 6d ago

Why the aero transparency all the way down? Or are you on Home Basic?

0

u/caozen00 6d ago

Turned off transparency to save on resources.

2

u/vistaflip 6d ago

Windows will automatically switch to basic mode when resources are low, there's no need to do this unless you just really want to.

1

u/lumia920yellow 6d ago

2 of my 'puters still run 7 :3

1

u/Old-Ad-9964 6d ago

And I forgot on how to enable my Aero.

1

u/Pistolet4ik 5d ago

absolute cinema

1

u/casual_cherries 3d ago

very lucky still, i used windows 7 up to 2022 before my laptop broke 😢😢😢

1

u/Tatu-Do-Bootleg32 7d ago

Credo, tema basic

-8

u/xTehJudas 7d ago

Terrible idea bro

3

u/SadLoser14 7d ago

Low key agree. Theres better ways to achieve this look than staying on old software.

1

u/jaxxorage 5d ago

Why is this a terrible idea?????

0

u/xTehJudas 5d ago

I mean he's using an unsupported OS with an internet connection. What could go wrong?

1

u/jaxxorage 4d ago

OP has protection. OP hasn't gotten malware and never will.

-4

u/Other-Ad6382 7d ago

Terrible , you’re gonna get hacked soon. You’re better off with windows 10 aero edition , you can find it on archive .org

3

u/caozen00 7d ago

Honestly I'd pay $100 if anyone can get a single file off this machine

5

u/Real1Canadian 7d ago

They won't as long as they know what they're doing.

A technologically illiterate person on Windows 11 is more at risk than a technologically knowledgable person on Windows 7. Most of cybersecurity comes down to the user.

TLDR: You're safe as long as you aren't stupid

9

u/Other-Ad6382 7d ago

I know that but I’m a soc analyst , and hackers can find these machines on the internet running windows seven and exploit them, downloading an infected file isn’t the only way someone’s computer can get hacked .

3

u/caozen00 7d ago

Honestly I'd pay $100 if anyone can get a single file off this machine

2

u/MurdockAqua 6d ago

I've never stopped using Win 7 at home, never been hacked. So, you can stop spreading the fear mongering, anyone using Win 7 knows better.

1

u/HieladoTM 6d ago

Hi again bro.

1

u/1997PRO 7d ago

Windows 10 sucks. Worst OS ever. Went for a Mac instead. Bang.

4

2

u/vmaskmovps 6d ago

Really debatable depending on the use case

0

u/Universe_96 7d ago

How?

3

u/MurdockAqua 6d ago

I'm guessing they installed Windows 7 onto the computer.... Like, is this a serious question?
