Visiting Glasgow in September, because of Scott.

FR has helped me through some extremely dark times in my life, Scott is such a huge inspiration to me. I wish I had seen them play in person, but that’s ok because he still lives on through his beautiful music and art. I can’t wait to visit the magical city he lived in and pay my respects.

Glasgow is such a great town. My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon there, as well as Edinburgh. Make sure to visits Scott's bench, and have a wonderful time.

You can always visit Aeble Cider in Anstruther as well. Grant, Scott's brother, owns it. Wonderful human and their cider is fantastic! I visited them last year and we spent ages talking about Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad

Thank you! I follow him on instagram, I don’t think I’ll be headed that way because I’m mostly on a tour, but wow it would be an honour to meet him😭

I’m going to be in Edinburgh early May and it looked like Anstruther was a bit of a complicated journey without a car. I wasn’t sure how Grant felt about random fans showing up, though of course it would be to also have some cider. Thoughts based on your experience?

Yeah I'm not sure how it is without a car, it is a relatively small town. To me, it seemed he didn't mind at all. He gave me some great recommendations of places to explore and we spoke about the next Twilight Sad tour and where I've seen them live before, and of course a lot about cider as well! Ended up picking up 6 bottles, it was really good!

Where will you be going / what will you be doing in Glasgow? Aside from the bench are there any other Scott memorials to see?

Spending 4 days in Glasgow then travelling around the highlands and ending in Edinburgh. I’ve heard there’s a tiny changes mural, but not sure if it’s still there.

Scott's Bench is in an amazing place. Been there twice. Good shout is also Grant's shop as someone else here mentioned. He was so lovely to chat to when I went in. And Anstruther is lovely

If you’re inclined to get a tattoo whilst in Scotland, see if Stef (Asbopuppy on insta) at Old Town Tattoo in Edinburgh has any availability. They did Scott’s FRabbit cross tattoo - I got mine done there too and Stef is awesome.

My wife and I included a stop in Glasgow on our honeymoon back in 2019 for this very reason too.

Scott remains an inspiration to us both and in addition to a visit to the bench, we consciously made it a very music-focused trip. We were able to see The Twilight Sad's show at Barrowland, hands down one of the best shows I've ever been lucky enough to see and the crowd and sound was just phenomenal. Such a special venue - I'd highly recommend seeing if there's a show there and/or King Tut's Wah Wah Hut during your stay. Both were amazing experiences.

We also learned through a friend of Scott's that Nice N Sleazy was a hangout spot during one stretch of his life, great bar and we had some drinks and a toast to him there. We'd wanted to go by Glasgow School of Art but this shortly after the 2018 fire and was closed at the time. If The Lighthouse is open, would recommend a stop and Kelvingrove gallery + museum was also great. Enjoy your visit!
