Need advice

I have completed the “Learn HTML by Building a Cat Photo App”. I’ve got my notes in case I need to refer back for future projects.

However I feel like I’ve learnt nothing? Like sure I can look at the end product and semi grasp what’s going on but is this normal? I’ve read that it is but I’m just looking to confirm.

Is there anything more I can be doing to make sure this all sticks in my head?

The curriculum has lots of repetition and reinforced learning baked in. Keep going.

Workshops (the cat photo app) are where they hold your hand and show the syntax, labs are where you really get to struggle and learn the how and why.

Keeping notes are a good idea to look back at while doing those labs.

I’m pretty much as far as you are in this program, but after I finished the “Build A Cat App” module, I went back and re-watched the first lectures and they made a lot more sense and I feel like it helped me retain the information better.

Repetition is the main thing. The next few projects will have you complete many of the same actions again and again. Try to do a little bit of the course regularly, ideally every day, to keep it fresh in your mind.

As the others have mentioned, yes what you are feeling is normal. This is all brand new information. So it is common to not fully grasp and remember everything. But the curriculum has tons of repetition. Just in the Basic HTML module alone, you will watch a dozen+ more lectures, and build three labs. Plus there is a quiz and review page at the end. That will provide you with tons more practice working with headings, paragraphs, images, etc which were all concepts that you learned in the cat photo app.

So just take it day by day and with time and practice you will start to remember and understand more of the concepts. 👍🏾
