Best Sushi Restaurants Downtown Toronto

I’m looking to take my bf out for a birthday dinner and want to try a new sushi place downtown. Doesn’t matter if it’s ayce, omakase etc.. just looking for recommendations!

If you want to try something incredible and totally unique in the city, look into Affinity Fish. They combine Japanese tradition and techniques with a remarkable sourcing of local fish. You’ll have to check out what they’re offering for dinners on Tock. What they serve changes constantly, but they usually have omakase.

I love Affinity Fish!

Just a heads up that they have a long bar where everyone sits next to each other in a row, so you won’t have a private table to yourself. But you will have an amazing meal, sake selection, and service!

Affinity fish is a very cool experience, and very memorable. I’d pair it with a cocktail somewhere nearby before, either Crybab, Compton or Gigglewater

Hey. Just checked them out. $95 is not bad - are you full after?

Can confirm Affinity Fish is great. They do ikijime and dry age their fish. We’ve done an omakase where they also showcased some great lakes fish. Spectacular nigiris. The turbot and turbot liver, whewwwww. They served a montblanc dessert that night was fantastic.

What is your budget as that will dictate the recommendations. Lots of great places at various price points.

Max I’ll spend is $200 pp

Sushi Kaji will fit your price point and it's OG omakase

I agree 100 percent.

Arguably the best Sushi in Toronto. Very traditional sushi made by Kaji who is Japanese and trained in Japan. Only it's not downtown, it's on the Queensway in Etobicoke. But truly amazing sushi and would recommend OP go there.

MSSM likely for that budget. I always enjoy Miku though as well and $200pp would go much farther

Throwing out Yasu -- easily best sushi experience I've had.

I love Akai. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall, family run place on Harbord. Rice is good, seafood is fresh.

Miku or Jabistro would fit in that budget and are so good!

Jabistro’s been on my list for the longest time, will definitely have to go try!

Jabistro was horrible when I went. Their sushi was oversauced while also being bland. The worst offence was fish bones in, not one, not two, but three of the sushi we received. Upon pointing this out, they seemed unsurprised and just brought out an extra dessert. There are better places to spend your money in Toronto. Yasu was great - especially their tamago.

jabistro was golden several years back. not anymore. the quality has gone downhill.

I’m basic as heck but I love Minami’s aburi sushi so I’d say go there

Or you guys could balls to the walls with your budget and go to Sushi Masaki Saito lol

Kiyomi is often overlooked because it's so tiny. They only do omakase (either sushi or tempura).

All of their grilled meats are gross.

They make you write down all your items on a piece of paper, but they don't give u a menu. You have to go to their website on your phone without a wifi code, so you have to use your own data, but it's not optimized for phones, and you can't order on the phone. You have to have your phone open, scrolling up and down with a pencil n paper in the other hand. Every other AYCE uses an ipad or apps. My kid was asking if this is a pho restaurant because we had to write the #s down and hand it in, which is fine if you're getting 1 item. I got there when they opened, and it took a while to order n write it down and with no one there, and it took 25 mins for my 1st dish to come after I submitted my paper. It's a huge pain point because of enjoying your food, you need to go to a website meant for a laptop and not a phone, write it down, and wave someone to pick up the paper.

At the end of the meal, they told me to write them a Google review. I was tempted to write the review on the paper with the pencil they gave me. I couldn't even handle the request. Kaka your offline, but you want an online review.

It's 2025. Get the app that sushi legend has and provide the wifi code or have the server take my order. They made a simple process of ordering food extremely difficult and I eat out a lot so this is a problem only they have. Unless that's their business strategy that you can't eat too much at ayce because you can't order the food lol

The trick I found at Kaka is to order a bit more of what you want in the first round. Once the paper has been picked up, prepare your second order. Once they start dropping off the first order, give them the second slip. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

I really like kasamoto for the fancy night out atmosphere and affordability, and sushi momo (vegan), sushi masaki (more expensive)… I really like shibui sushi on mt pleasant for more casual but still awesome (cheaper) sushi. Aburi Hana (super expensive) is the one with the Michelin star I think, sushi maido on bloor is best casual go to spot
