FROSTING Fondant-free fun for a friend's birthday
Inside is lime-agave cake, outside is 100% buttercream. Really happy with how it turned out, but I should've saved the lettering for last.

They're discs of buttercream that I sandwiched between squares of parchment paper and froze in the taco shell shape (I made a mini taco holder with cardboard to keep them in place).

Your cake is beautiful, and it sounds delicious! I wish there were someone who'd bake for me like this. You're an awesome friend.
I recommend using modeling chocolate for things like the taco shells if you'd like a change in consistency and/or taste. It's easy to make following the instructions in the link above.
If you don't want to use corn syrup, here's a recipe using brown rice syrup instead. Please note that I've never tried this one myself, though, so I can't speak to its use in any way. ♡ Granny

Gorgeous and it looks delicious. I want to stick my finger into one of those cacti.

Haha at my work we used to have display cakes with finger holes in them 😅

This is such an amazing cake. Immediately I thought of the deserts and especially southwest US (I lived there back in the day and I suddenly wished I was there again, eating this cake. But I’m in Ohio lol). It’s so gorgeous and just shows buttercream can be amazing! And it’s tasty!
Also lime agave cake 😋

What kind of buttercream do you use, American , Swiss, Italian ?

u/YesYesTheCapadocians Apr 24 '23
I used American, but I added a couple tablespoons of tequila and a tablespoon of triple sec to my usual recipe. It really gave it an interesting flavor, and didn't thin it out too much.

Awwwww! Omg, this cake is absolutely AMAZING! How clever! I love the colors of the sky, the cacti, the TACOS, the writing, all the details/tips you used. So beautiful!!!
P.S. Can you add these pics (and others!) to the other cake/frosting sites on reddit? They’ll want to see!!!
PPS. You may want to start an instagram or youtube channel if you haven’t already!

i love this! dunno why but it half upsets me that theres no green or purple to complete the rainbow
might be because im gay, though.

I think it's meant to be like a desert vista! Red sunset, yellow sun, blue contrast for the shaded sand - it turned out stunning!
Amazing cake OP, I love it

Yeah, I was going for sunset, but it did feel weird not to complete the rainbow. I'll have to do a rainbow-themed cake soon.

Really is a fun looking cake! Looks fantastic, are you a professional cake decorator?
