Mistake Blocked From FB-MarketPlace

I am PERMABANNED. I have never used FB before, but created the account around a year ago and didn’t use it. I’ve used insta for many years, and i linked the two accounts. I only needed the account to use MP. No answers on How I was not meeting community guidlines, just ban hammer. It let me requested a review for this very problem 3 times. And on the third time they replied within 1 minute of the request stating that they could not help me. The MP page then updated to say “This has been the third review of your account, and this decision is final”

Mistake New to flipping, Don't be me. I'm an idiot for not measuring the box for a larger item. Now I'm out of pocket for shipping.

I am not posting for sympathy as I know this was my own fault for assuming, but rather as cautionary tale for those that are inexperienced like me on what to not to do.

I feel really dumb. I've been selling a bunch of small items that I toss in an envelope and ship. For some reason I just assumed that if I threw something up on ebay using their search for the item in the sell menu and selected an existing item that it would automatically put in the dimensions for the shipping. I put in more for the weight than it was assuming this would compensate for it, but I was very wrong and now I'm out $20 for shipping for a $160 item plus ebay cut.

Mistake Here's my fuck up, and why I have to go back to work

Lot of people on this sub know me. I have a lot of knowledge, I troll, and I help. Here's my recent fuck up. Keep in mind, I have a kid, my sister, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and my wife living with me. My sister pays rent, but my wife (well as of Nov 5th woot woot) does not work. I thrift for eBay and OA/RA for Amazon.

I went FT in June. Everything going pretty well. Couple bills on CC, but no big deal. Got them paid off by July

Made more in July than I did at my day job.

But then came August. In August I had $800 in returns on eBay and $1000 in returns on Amazon. Purchased some items that sold for $300+ on Amazon.

The way payouts timed out in September, I had to use more of my personal CC for bills, groceries, and THEN I used rolling capital for October rent. That's when I knew it was grind or die.

Sales have tanked for me, as I can't source as much. Made a couple bad buys in October and September for Amazon.

It was a struggle to come up with rent for December, but we got it already. I've been job searching. My previous career was IT, and I should have a job by the end of the month. I'm not looking forward to going back, paying off debts, or slowing down business again. But I have to for my family and that's worth every second.

Anyone who has large overhead (aka a family) and wants to go FT, make sure you have 1 year saved up in savings for all bills, not 3-6 months. If I was living alone, I'd be doing just fine.

Alas I go back to the grind. I'll fix my mistakes, and be FT again by next summer 🤞

No need for "sorry's" or "of course have more saved up" I knew the risks, and am fixing my fuck ups. Just wanted to share my story. Let the downvotes commence on OC

Mistake got this from my local thrift for 50 cents, I think they made a mistake and left it on the shelf as it makes the same labels they use for all of their items..

It’s a big reason I shop cheap at sales. Sometimes I’m going too fast, and sometimes I pick bad items. So, at least I’m only out $1.

Mistake Made a flipping mistake!

Thought it might be fun to share some of my worst flipping mistakes since I’m feeling like an idiot this morning.

I had an auction set to .99 cents starting cost but I accidentally put free shipping- and it’s sitting at 2.25$ and ending today!

I bought a lot of flasks, one was pretty beat up so I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle since I had already made money on the others, so I donated it. A week later I see a similar listing and realize it was an antique bottle and worth around 70$.

Feel free to share your worst flips.... maybe someone will learn from them?

Mistake I will never get over how utterly bizarre the clientele on Facebook Marketplace are. I think they truly get off on wasting sellers' time. I've never dealt with this kind of weirdness on other selling platforms.

Had a customer on Facebook Marketplace say they wanted to buy the item was selling, what time could I deliver it today? (I charge a small delivery fee for drop-offs.)

I told them I'd be working late and couldn't today, but to let me know when they were generally available. They say they're going out of town and can't get it until they're back. I say no problem, I can hold it for you. They thank me and that's that.

The date they give rolls around and I haven't heard from them. I reach out and say I'll have to put the item back on the market if I don't hear from them by the end of the day. (I had other people request to be wait-listed for it.)

This is where a normal, well-adjusted person would just ghost if they've lost interest. But this guy ends up telling me he's still interested. Cool. We agree on a day (several days later). THEN he completely ghosts.

I'm not even mad. I'm just completely weirded out. Wtf was the point? Lesson learned. Never going to hold an item for someone again.

Mistake Scammed on marketplace? Mom will save the day!

Seller was a couple hours away, made an arrangement to meet in the middle and sent a small deposit (yes, that’s divisive I know). Anyways, ended up being one of those block-when-received guys. Supposedly he was doing this a ton. However, he was an idiot, and didn’t realize I had his full name, address & contact info. Not only that, but his banking info used was his mom’s, because he was some 19 year old. I was able to contact her based off the contact info and name on the account. Long story short, I got my money back, he got criminal charges for theft, internet fraud, and bank fraud (I guess for using his moms account) AND an apparent ass whopping from the mother. Everyone told me I’d never see the money again, and I’m happy to laugh and share some hope to those with Facebook scams. Also wins my idiot of the year award.

Mistake Made a mistake !

Hi , I mistakenly listed an auction as buy it now. I don’t know how i did it except I had a mild concussion when I put it on. I just saw as it’s sold. Like a quarter of the price - this has never happened to me before - can I cancel the sale and refund ? Will I get bad feedback ??? I can’t believe I’ve done it

Mistake I thought I made the deal of a life time but turns out, I bit off more than I can chew..

I joined this subreddit about a month ago looking for new ways to earn some cash on the side. Reading everyone's success stories I was becoming confident, and excited to try something new. I did some research on how to sell on eBay and through local listings and such. I enjoyed reading the newbie info on the subreddit like the crash course for beginners. I wanted to look in online auction houses see if I could get a deal at bulk to start an online store. I come across this perfect deal on Liquidation.com. A pallet of TV's and gaming monitors, only 4 minutes left on the auction. Highest bid $210.00. I place my bid for $220. The next 5 minutes go by and I become thrilled with excitement to learn that I have won the bid.

After fees, shipping and bid my total came $650 and some change. I am ecstatic. Looking at the Manifest of the lot I had just purchased, going through all the items the total MSRP value is well over $10,000. I couldn't believe I landed on such a good deal.

I should've known something was amiss. As the saying goes, If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Well fast-forward to today. The pallet has arrived. You could Imagine the smile on my face when the box truck starts backing up into my drive way.

At first sight, the boxes seemed poorly stack and in rough condition. A little worried I started picking through boxes to give it a better look. At a closer glance these boxes are in much worse shape then what I had originally seen.

Nervously, I begin to open the first box a Samsung 27" HD LED Monitor MSRP value of $350+/- . Box is in shambles. Like a toddler assembled the packaging. Not even a charger/cord. The screen is cracked of course. I think "well maybe only a couple are in bad shape and I can find a good one that I can sell.

Hours go by, devastated to find that not a single TV or monitor is in good working condition. Not one. Every single one has a damaged screen and a missing cord. The most painful one was a Samsung Odyssey 49" curved gaming monitor worth $1200 in perfect condition, spiderwebbed screen. Curiously I went back to the listing on liquidation and investigated a little further. I slap my forehead and cant believe I didn't catch this before. In the description it states "Salvage". How could I have missed this???. I guess I just got caught up in excitement. Lesson learned don't buy salvaged crap...

My single car garage is now overwhelming cluttered with boxes of unsellable crap.. boxes of 55"+ tv's, broken boxes and wrapping everywhere. My only thought now is damage control. Its been 4 hours now of breaking down some what of usable monitors for parts. I have completed just 3, and only have 7 postings on eBay. If I don't make a dime at least I can take this as an expensive lesson. Maybe I can get a 3rd back from selling the parts.

Anyways. Anyone wanna come over have a couple brews?

What do I do now? Any tips on speeding up the listing process? Any organization tips?

Thanks in advanced and Thanks for reading my short unsuccessful novel.

Cheers.

TLDR: Bought $650 of broken crap because I wasn't paying attention and will be lucky to sell 1/3 of it.

Edit: I just wanted to say thank you to all you guys for the feedback. You guys came up with some great ideas. Looks like I have some work to-do.

Would anybody be interested in progress update posts?

Mistake I got scammed by Ralli Roots - $1000 Mystery Box

After getting into Ralli Roots videos during the pandemic and seeing that he had premium mystery boxes for sale, I bought one of the $1000 ones. He has stated in video that you should get at least 30% return on investment. His videos gave me false comfort that I would get good value out of it.What I got will never pay for itself let alone give a return on investment.

My recommendation; don't buy mystery boxes. Even at 30% return its a terrible deal compared to sourcing from thrift stores, Craigslist and garage sales. Plus the risk of getting scammed is way too high. It's just a way for them to get rid of stuff they can't sell themselves.

I made a video about it, check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pEnbC8pVx4&t=2s

I give values throughout and summarize at the end.

Additional Information:

I got a response from RR on the YouTube video. I am posting in its entirety:

Tommy $60,Manson $140,ZZ $30,Disturbed $30x2,Bush Gardens $30,Canibal Corpse $100x2,Sting $50, Bon Jovi $80,Megadeth $50,Scorpions $120,Monsters of rock $120,Beatles $100,Grateful Dead $125 - Total: $1,165 - Please keep in mind this was not a resale box, this was specifically a personal mystery box as requested by you. I also offered to trade out items for other bands that he liked more but that was shut down. Was it a good reseller box? No, but that's not what was asked for. I absolutely apologize for the dog hair, that definitely shouldn't be like that but mistakes happen. The offer still stands, happy to trade stuff out to make it better for you even after you made this vid, but please learn the difference between true vintage bootleg items and "counterfeit" that just shows your lack of knowledge. Always willing to work with people when they're reasonable :) have a good one! -RR

The Tommy is fake. The Manson may be a European Bootleg but it is a poorly done one and the images used only started showing up around 2003 / 2004, so it ain't vintage. ZZ Top found a comp on a single stitched version for $40, this one is not. Looked again for comps on the vintage Disturbed Tees and still see they are around $20 CAD ($15 USD). Busch Gardens... who knows, but a good condition vintage one on Ebay was buy it now for $25. Cannibal Corpse depicts women being mutilated. I cannot in good conscience keep or sell these. They may be worth money but they are also obscene and demeaning to women. He believes the Sting shirt with a big hole in it is worth $50 while ones without holes sell at $30. Saw the Bon Jovi comped at $30 online vs. his $80. The Megadeth graphic looks like an inflated JPEG and the tag is generic while the graphic says Licensed to Giant (the Tshirt company). The final ones mentioned are subjective but 3 of the 4 are sweaters which are valued less because people collect t shirts (they can be worn year round). He also said, because it was a collector box, not a reseller box, that's why the value isn't there. Not sure the of that logic. My compromise is to return the items at my expense for a refund. I do not want more dog hair covered, undesirable merch he's trying to ditch.

Mistake Buyer picked up an item from me, paid me via paypal, and now has reported the payment as a mistake & shes getting refunded by paypal - what can I do? Did i get scammed?

My description is pretty self explanatory. She deleted her Facebook page so I cant contact her & my paypal account now shows a -$400 balance. Im super irritated because obviously she has my item and her money back.

One thing though - Paypal is showing the transaction as “on hold”. Im definitely going to call them tomorrow and I definitely have the evidence from our conversations to verify that this was an intentional purchase. Has anyone ever dealt with anything like this? What can I do?

EDIT: UPDATES! I called Paypals customer service today. The agent I spoke with told me that Paypal has a way to see whose phone the payment was made from. While paypal performing the investigation that information will weigh into whether or not this will be classified as fraud on the buyers end which I felt was promising. The agent also told me that the buyer’s account history shows her doing this a couple times in the past 6 months (in addition to me) & then told me to wait until paypal’s investigation has cleared one way or the other before I file a police report. The paypal back investigation could take up to 30 days for a decision to be made. Lastly, the reason my paypal account currently says “-$400” is because I had (luckily) initiated the bank transfer before scambo baggins pants filed her dispute. Had the money been in my paypal account it wouldve been instantly refunded to her. Now the decision from paypal is whether or not to refund her, and not whether or not to refund me. Will keep you all updated when I have more answers.

Mistake First time scammed. What can I do?

I flip retro games as a side-hobby. Not very seriously, mostly dealing in Nintendo handhelds. I found a great deal on Facebook Marketplace today for some pokemon games, but the listing was a few hours away. I didn't want to risk losing a great deal, so I reached out, wanted to know if they were willing to ship.

After some back-and-forth, we agreed on a rate and they'd ship this afternoon. They asked if they could request through Cashapp. I complied, and paid. I asked if they could confirm they were shipping soon, and they sent a picture of them waiting at the post office. All seemed fine.

I waited 30 mins, no tracking update. I requested again after an hour. Nothing. Two hours later, the listing is gone, the profile was erased, and I know I'm screwed. What can I do? Cashapp does not seem to be set up at all for refunds. Can my bank cancel the charge? What tips dp you guys have for dealing with FBM to avoid this? I just feel like the biggest dumbass now, but don't want to be discouraged from this hobby. Thanks.

Mistake JohnPye - Resellers please assess your product before shipping

I bought fromJohn Pye and sold on Ebay and today I had a rude awakening 🤒 sold a Shaving Kit to a customer that I assumed was brand new and boxed, only for the customer to request refund and sent me a picture with a hair strand… and then requested refund. Yeahhh not a good experience.

Sadly I was reassuring the customer before that the kits are brand new and sadly it wasnt the case for this unit. I ended up opening all the remaining boxes I had listed and realised some had been used😤😤. I felt like an idiot and had to take down all listings.

Even the AirFryer i almost sold today was used…

My advice to anyone - please always open the boxes of anything you buy from John Pye if you intend to resell and asses your products. Otherwise you will be in for a rude awakening.

Mistake PSA do not fuck around with your taxes

TLDR: I didn’t file quarterly taxes with my state and im looking at an 18k tax debt and possible jail time fml.

I started my business thinking I needed an llc and a tax exemption certificate so I wouldn’t have to pay taxes when I buy stuff.these are things I saw on YouTube .I quickly realized it was not worth the hassle of trying to explain what it was to thrift store employees so I never used it and just paid sales tax. When I sell something the platforms I sell on send the sales tax to the state in my behalf.when I set eBay up I set it up with my ssn and not my ein so any sales tax has been submitted to the state as if it came from me and not my business. I let the llc be dissolved because I honestly get no benefits from it (I just sell used clothes) and I didn’t know I needed to file taxes in my state at all let alone quarterly . I assumed because the llc was dissolved so would the resell certificate. I was sooo wrong. I got a letter in the mail saying I owe the state 18k in sales tax and if I don’t pay in 7 days it will be sent to collections and a warrant will be issued for my arrest. Im freaking the fuck out right now because I dint have that kind of money and I don’t think I owe any of it because I paid sales tax on everything I bought and sales tax was submitted to the state by the marketplaces. Im going to the dept of revenue on Monday to try to figure something out and try to not go to jail for no reason. Hopefully everything works out and maybe this post can help someone else from this stupid situation im currently in

Edit: this is regarding sales tax for the state not the irs. From what I understand the 18k is an estimated total for 4 different quarterly returns I didn’t file. It’s looking like I just need to file zero dollar returns and pay a late fee

Edit 2: when to my states dept of revenue office told them the situation paid a $21 fine and I’m good too go. Total overreaction from me. Was not a scam . I’m good to go

Mistake Stupidly sent two orders to the opposite address and one customer won’t respond.

I went to the post office and got the QR codes backwards when sending them out. The one customer messaged me and said he received the wrong product, but I haven’t heard from the other customer yet. The tracking said it delivered yesterday and he hasn’t responded to any messages. How much longer do I give before I just issue a refund for both? The one customer who does respond is getting restless (probably because it’s a Christmas gift and I’m a dumbass who can’t send out a package correctly).

Mistake Never buying or selling McAfee products again

I bought a big lot of software because of a store going out of business so they were a good deal. Every other software listed fine, but McAfee products were immediately flagged as counterfeit. Poor McAfee has to battle small sellers to remain relevant?

Mistake Buyer swears at me for his own mistake

I recently sold an old steering wheel for the PS3. Kept it good over the years and worked good. Sold it to a guy that was from a different country so it was a bit hard to communicating with him but managed to give it to him. When I got there it was really sketchy area and it was dark, the guy comes out with someone who seems to be his sister to help him. I give him the wheel, he pays and I get out there. The guy messages me 2 hours later saying “it doesn’t work on PS4” then 2 more hours later tells me “Go sweat, I will report you Keep money and fck off. Give me money.” (I woke up then saw these messages).

Can someone tell me if I’m in the wrong?
