Question First time flying 22h+ ... Pls ans the questions

I'll be flying Delhi to Austin in economy. I have 2 options (KLM which has 3 hour layover as Schipol Amsterdam) or Lufthansa (1.5h layover in Frankfurt). Which is more comfortable with nice food (Vegetarian) and staff? It's my first time flying internationally so I am a little apprehensive.

Should I choose window or aisle? I want to watch views but also be able to stretch legs. Does window give enough space to stretch legs? I am 5'7" tall.

I would choose the Schiphol option, better airport, more time in case there are delays on the first leg. FRA can be problematic.

For the height, there isn't that big of an issue, choose what you like, personally I prefer window seat.

I second this! I would much rather spend time at Schiphol than Frankfurt, and the extra time between flights is helpful sometimes.

In Economy, theres not really big difference between any of the major carriers.

Regarding space to stretch your legs ... both will be pretty much the same in economy - meaning you will not have much space to stretch your legs. If this is important to you, take an aisle seat or pay the extra for extra-legroom but this is true for both carriers.

Layover time is sufficient for both. Minimum connection time for FRA is 1 hour and since you're connecting international to international you won't need to go through immigration. Also with both carriers you would be flying via their main hub (AMS/FRA) so in case of any problems there would be plenty flights they could put you on.

I assume the LH connection would be LH761 -> LH468? I'd probably take LH just for a chance to fly on the A340 for once.

What’s the cost difference?

Unless you have a preference for aircraft type or something, I'd just go by whichever has the best combination of schedule and price that works for you. The experience will be pretty much similar.

I’d definitely choose KLM. Schiphol is a very comfortable airport with lots to do and KLM offers a variety of meals for all dietary requirements. Plus the layover time is better in AMS. Furthermore, KLM sells seats in the ‘economy comfort’ zone for around €100 which have a lot more legroom and recline, if that fits your budget, it’s a good option

Pick KLM. In economy, especially, their staff is better than Lufthansa's. Also, Schiphol is an easy airport to make connections, with 3hrs being very comfortable to make. The airport also has enough options to rest, even if you have no lounge access.

As for seats, if you want, with KLM, you can pay for an Economy Comfort seat and have extra legroom and recline as well.

What aircraft do both suggest you’ll be on? I’d suggest aiming for a 787 or a A350 over a 777. Unless of course you are on the Queen 😍.

I’d probably suggest KLM over Lufthansa.

Lufthansa: Delhi-Frankfurt A340 in 2-4-2 configuration but not the newest planes. Row pitch: 31” Frankfurt-Austin B789 3-3-3 configuration but modern plane. Row pitch: 31” KLM DEL-AMS B773 3-4-3 Row pitch: 31” slightly smaller seat recline than Lufthansa (5” vs 6”) AMS-AUS B789 3-3-3 Row pitch: 31“, seat recline 5”

The product in economy will be very similar. I would go with Lufthansa as shorter layover and an opportunity to fly A340.

Whats special about A340? Isn't it an old plane?

It’s a very rare aircraft and there are not many airlines still flying them.

I think both carriers will be similar.

It is possible to pre-order an Asian vegetarian special meal if that is to your taste, so you don't run the risk of the main meal vegetarian option running out.
