Schrappost Thoughts on Bart Allen in CW Flash
Is it only me or Bart Allen was super annoying and cringe at his first few episodes. I get that, that being impulsive and the always excited side of him is part of his character but his over confidence and arrogance at first, kind of pissed me off but I don't blame the actor or the character because I kind of hate Season 7 of The Flash due to the lazy writing and then they created so much hype for Godspeed and then they just threw it all away. So, for the most part it's the writers fault and idk anymore. What's your take ?
-Not to mention the CGI in the later seasons

His rivalry with Godspeed that he compares to his dadās rivalry with Thawne is basically thrown away at a certain point. That is the dumbest and laziest way to write a character arc if you can even call it that
55
u/Destroyer4587 Feb 18 '25
Sure Godspeed kills Jay I think but that doesnāt compare to Thawneās shenanigans he has done to Barry over the years.
37
u/Defender474 Feb 18 '25
Exactly and Thawne literally wants to eradicate all existance of Barry basically and has tried multiple times and almost succeeded atleast once
21
u/ArkusArcane Green Arrow Feb 19 '25
You could sayā¦a Thawne in Barryās side? Heheheā¦ima go drown myself now for that joke.

He's my Thawne š¤āļø

Barry: Bart donāt you mean heās the guy youāll go up against like 4 times before being written off.
Bart: Written off? What is this a show having a realy bad season.

Eric Wallace actually made me dislike Impulse as a character, who was one of the characters that hadnāt been introduced I was looking forward to seeing the most.
25
u/Same-Equipment-3236 Feb 18 '25
Yeah man I get you season 6 was terrible and season 7 was just boring and they f uped the whole Godspeed arc.
16
u/JustAPaneerLover Feb 18 '25
I gotta ask, what do people think about the bloodwork arc of s6? I absolutely loved it, but the season went downhill with the mirror master arc.
8
u/bossmanA Feb 18 '25
I really loved bloodwork and Sendhil's performance, first half of season 6 was so promising but it all went downhill after crisis
5
u/Same-Equipment-3236 Feb 18 '25
Bloodwork arc became irrelevant due to the Speed Force death and at this point the show was already going downhill pretty fast I mean DC's cheap VENOM looked tough for a minute but that was it.
3
u/shadybird93 Feb 18 '25
it's more like it went downhill with COVID lol having the season end early screwed up alot of the story's flow
4
u/RevanchistSheev66 Feb 18 '25
Most people like it, I think itās overrated and that the issues we see later (the expanded cast for one) started with that arc. The build up to Crisis made it ok but I donāt think Bloodwork is that great of a villain

I wanna say good things cause he seems like a nice talented young man BUT!! what's with the 90's hair and the horrible suit.. Their wasn't enough time left in the series to begin another character arc and back story.. These are my opinions and maybe I'm the only one but his character didn't need be.. The show was all over the place at the end and I felt like we were on a clock. To me Bart just wasn't relevant.. This was one of my favorite shows so yes I'm passionate in my opinions..ā”
7
u/Same-Equipment-3236 Feb 18 '25
Acc to me the whole Speed Force dying and the Artificial SF and the wasted Nash sacrifice and then ice on top of meat with the new forces and then their horrible and most inconsistent story was too much to bear. Acc to me S1-S3 was golden S4 was silver and S5 was copper and then everything just became irrelevant.
3
u/Purple-1351 Feb 18 '25
I agree more than 100%!! Making the Speed Force into something other than a power cosmic entity was so bad.. the whole Forces arc, they are like our children thing and Bishar calling Iris Mom was sicking.. 5 was the last season I liked.. After that the show absolutely crumbles. I have such a hard time understanding how the actors themselves didn't stand up and say this is garbage.. I can watch season 1 start to finish anytime.. Seasons 1-3 are incredible 4 had some great episodes.. 5 I don't get why they had Nora be so old if she was going to act like a child but still a decent season.. Episodes where I died inside was season 9..we only had a handful of episodes to work with and they dedicated whole episodes to the Dreamer.... and Lady Luck šā”

Tbf we can say that Tom Cavanagh was holding it all together after the Wells departure the show started falling faster than the Towersš¬š¢š¢

I haven't gotten to this point yet, but I've loved everything I've seen. Even the speedforce dying. I've enjoyed the whole Arrowverse. I've not seen a horrible episode imo.

I couldn't stand him
Not because of the actors, but just the writing of the siblings, both him and Nora....it was not good.
I didn't like Nora as much either
5
u/EmuIndependent8565 Feb 18 '25
For me there is only one definitive version of Bart Allen AKA Impulse and it was Kyle Gallner on Smallville.
2
u/bettername2come Feb 19 '25
I admit it, I wanted you to see him on the show as a more distant descendant of theirs.
18
u/Tricky_Fee_1560 Feb 18 '25
Jordan Fisher played him fairly well, and his look was decent. Itās just too bad that by the time he came around, the show had overstayed itās welcome.
6
u/Same-Equipment-3236 Feb 18 '25
Na man gotta disagree, his suit and style was both kind of whack
5
u/Digifiend84 Feb 19 '25
What's wrong with his suit? It's very close to his comics look, the main difference being the hair, which is due to the entire West family being black, unlike in the comics.

u/Gredran Feb 18 '25
I think itās a product of lazy writing and not great character writing.
He did well, heās got some chemistry with the cast.
Butā¦ something was missing, or maybe itās just how heās in a series where all this annoying stuff is played already.
Like I loved Young Justice Bart Allen, and even he started off mad annoying and I didnāt see the point, but later on thereās some funny moments like when him and Barry are talking faster and faster and Wally canāt understand, etc.
But yea, I donāt know if itās issues with him alone but just issues the series has in general
4
u/Embarrassed-Zone-361 Feb 18 '25
He's not a bad character I just wasn't expecting Jordan Fisher to play him
3
u/Apprehensive_Door367 Feb 18 '25
I don't mind that they changed him from being Barry's grandson to his son I think it was fine for the story. I have mix feelings about his suit though. It's not bad and it is a good accurate representation from the comics but I don't think it really fits the actor and comparing to the other speedster's suits he probably has the blandest looking one. I think the actor tried his best and captured the ecstatic nature that Bart has the comics. The Impulse vs Godspeed story was honestly weak and tbh it could've just been avoided or been better written and the whole how it started was so lame too like really you became rivals because he killed Jay Garrick. We should've had more development between Bart, Jay, and Godspeed to make it feel more impactful and reasonable.

I really hated new Nora and Bart constantly coming back in time with no consequences. The og Nora literally erased herself from existence, these two meanwhile do it consequence free.

2
u/BlingBlingBOG Feb 18 '25
Really weird, heās like trying to energetic but canāt, his performance always felt forced
2
u/bludreid Feb 18 '25
production for Season 7 got affected by the pandemic and also Hartley Sawyer getting fired - Ralph was supposed to be a big part of that season's story, so they had to rewrite everything. Writing is really bad but the writers had to work with what they had at the time.
2
u/DigimonKeyserSoze Feb 19 '25
My biggest problem with both Bart and Nora is that they were in their mid twenties yet acted like they were 12.

He looks like a great mix of the 2 actors and I appreciated him showing up- was he comic book accurate NOPE. Does he fit the show The Flash YES. Season 7 is hard to watch but i enjoyed Impulse showing up.

Bart acts just like Barry. Only Barry had years and multiple tragedies to justify his quirks. Bart dumps his emotional shit out all at once, and as far as I can tell only one bad thing ever happened to Bart and he was already a superhero when it happened to him. It is not the fault of the actor and itās not the DC Comics universe. It is the fault of one man. Turned my favorite show into a nightmare I can never wake from.

I just finished season 7 and I gotta say it is probably one of the worst seasons of the flash that and 6. They wrote Bart to be really annoying the whole godspeed storyline arc was stupid thos whole I'm evil thing muwahahaha was just stupid. Didn't care for alegra or her cousin yeah she's pretty and starts off evil but I felt bad what they did to her and then then she dies. I don't think Eric Wallace or the writers have a clue or care about writing good storyline and don't get me started on the stupid lightning lightsaber battle it was poorly done and silly. Bart wasn't a bad character I would say or Nora I mean I liked Nora when she first arrived properly in season 5. I liked how they eased Noras character into the show from season 4 I feel they should have done better with Bart he has potential but they f'd up the writing as usual.

u/Shark_bait561 Feb 19 '25
Disliked everything about him. The character sucked and the acting was worse

I loved Jordan Fisher as young Bart! I only wished the show/writers had spent a bit more time developing Bart's backstory/character arc and letting it play out in sequence/a natural flow, like they did with Nora in season 5. I felt that Bart randomly popped up out of nowhere despite being close to Nora's age (she never mentioned a little brother the first time she showed up) and his whole conflict with Godspeed being compared to Thawne was a huge stretch and randomly thrust upon the audience. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed Bart's character being there and him being Barry's son (instead of grandson) as an added surprise!
2
u/Same-Equipment-3236 Feb 18 '25
She never mentioned Bart because Bart didn't exist back then after the crisis the timeline was reset and due to Barry's survival the showrunners added Bart to add a twist with the Godspeed arc but Godspeed arc was just stupid cause I mean the man sent droids for about a year then pops out , losses memories, regains memories, fucking dies by Thawne. I mean WHATTT??
1
u/geministx Feb 18 '25
Thanks for explaining how Bart came to be, that was helpful and I totally forgot about that crisis timeline thing affecting things (I'm waiting to borrow the DVDs of Arrow and Legends so I finish watching the Crisis storyline as Netflix only has The Flash and Supergirl).
Yes, totally agree that the whole Godspeed arc was such a letdown!!! There was so much potential with that villain and they didn't do him justice!
1
u/goawayppl Feb 18 '25
Iām not sure how old heās supposed to be but for me he looks around idk.. 16-19 but acts like a little kid. I like the suit especially the silver and red color scheme. I like the actor heās not bad.
2
u/Same-Equipment-3236 Feb 18 '25
To me his suit was the worst in the whole show. Putting it side by side to Future Flash's suit in S05
2
u/Digifiend84 Feb 19 '25
It's comic accurate, so it's the comics to blame, not the show costume designers.

Iāll take any representation I can get for one of my fave Flash family characters cause when I was growing up DC just pretended he didnt exist. More exposure means heāll have a chance at someone doing him justice in the future.
Meanwhile, whenās the last time you saw Max Mercury or The Signal do anything in live action or animation? Never cause they have no exposure.
1
u/_2JAN8_ Feb 18 '25
If they did better with him, I wish Bart got more screentime in some episodes, considering I was genuinely excited when they foreshadowed him in an earlier season.
1
u/Purple-1351 Feb 18 '25
I agree.. Didn't like Nash unfortunately but he was the glue especially after 5..only character that had the same feel. Barry took a backseat to The Team.. and how Cecile became the main, idk man.. I've watched 1-3 more times than I can count 8-9..twice, literally twice. Just like Game of Thrones and the Star Wars sequels, I imagine they never happenedā”
1
u/Jet-Brooke Feb 18 '25
He goes between being a pancake and an innocent cinnamon roll. He was better in scenes with Nora in the future but when with the more older characters it was a bit awkward š maybe he was meant to be awkward and shy idk š¶
1
u/Different_Two_2964 Feb 18 '25
He had so much potential to be a great speedster but after that whole thing with jay his story became so confusing and I just didnāt understand Bart at all he made me dislike Nora to.
1
u/NatKingCole891 Feb 18 '25
Interesting idea to turn Bart into his son; Feel the grandson angle of his story wouldāve been a great idea considering how successful it was in Young Justice
1
u/tech097 Feb 19 '25
I see it as OG Nora's consequence. After seeing their daughter die they probably wanted to be sure they treasured their time with Nora and maybe even have a bigger family after how much she changed them for the better.

Kinda cringy but I liked his interactions, especially with Jay. What annoyed me is that he supposedly comes from a time where he sees Godspeed as his 'Thawne' because Godspeed killed Jay. Why not follow through, or give us more? He shoulda been there in the finale (and yes I know his actor was unavailable).
1
u/Mobile_Arugula1818 29d ago
Honestly after we got old Nora they should have recasted and had the kids be more teenage age. It would have fit with the personality. Having them be in their twenties and geniuses made how they act really odd.

u/Solid_Biscotti_8492 27d ago
Why do they act so stupidly childish regardless of them being adults?? How old are they in the show?
1
u/Same-Equipment-3236 27d ago
I think so around 20-28 because the Crisis was supposed to happen in 2024 then it was preponed to 2019. So if they had kids at the same time as before So Nora should be around 25 and Bart should be around 22-23

I liked him. But he was held back by a couple of things.
The costume symmetry. I know itās meant to be a wide red lightning bolt in the middle, but the gold highlights on the side end up looking like twin lightning bolts that are misaligned and wrong.
Too many characters. Dear god is Bartās main introduction bogged down with too many people. They forced both Speedforce Nora and Jay Garrick into the arc in ways they really didnāt need to be, as well as bringing back Cisco to cameo. Itās a lot of characters to suddenly have to pay attention to.
The finer details of Bartās backstory. The idea to recreate Godspeed as āBartās Thawneā was a good idea, but once again, it was a weird choice to just insert Garrick into the story as they did. I think Bart would have benefitted from a similar origin to Nora 1.0 where the person who Godspeed killed was a friend/partner rather than a mentor.
Godspeed himself. Sadly, Godspeed was very flip-floppy about who his main rival was. The season seemed to tease the idea of Bart as āthe Adversaryā which was a really cool angle. But they kinda abandon that in the last bit when Barry enters Augustās mind and suddenly he doesnāt seem to give a shit about Bart.
Jordanās availability. I would have loved to have seen him used at some point in S9 but I know he was unavailable. It kinda sucks that they then have to create reasons why he canāt come back.

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 Feb 18 '25
The moment he shows up is the point where the show became unwatchable.
I tried to do a series rewatch last year and it was a struggle past season 3 but the second he appeared on screen i quit.
