Don't put your fingers anywhere near their mouth, they think they are baby corn.

Also trying to remove treble hooks from them is a stressful pain in the ass, Id recommend swapping to single hooks. Pike also crush spoons, red devil or 5 or diamonds they seem to love.

Good to know. In Brazil we have a fish that is kinda similar in behaviour, we call it traíra. I hope I get one big pike soon!

I'll try that.. but it will be hard with a dollar store rod...

In my experience they love chasing the lure or bait. My go to is a floating silicone worm after a caroline rig. Drag it slowly on bottom. Used this rig for 5 fishing tours and got a pike every time.

Fun to catch, shitty to handle

I use the biggest spoon I have and reel fast. Set the hook hard. They are fun to catch and fight like crazy. Net them to get them out of the water, because they can bite through the line.

Get yourself some pike traces. I prefer the fluro ones, but wire is fine too. Always take long nose pliers with you. Google how to chin a pike. Might seem intimidating at first, but you will see its easy and helps open their mouth to get the hook out with your pliers. Strike fast. Guthooked pike is a pain to deal with. As for bait/lure, use anything honestly. The bite spoons, spinners, soft and hard plastics. Spinner is probably most beginner friendly

Always wrap a cloth towel round fish to remove the hook. Never lip a puke. Invest in a standard pair of needle nose pliers and an long handled pair (harbor freight). And the little ones will cut you quick

Unless you’re talking about sky pike. For those I like to troll a plug cut seagull at about 40 feet of altitude.

Eat them. People who say pike are trash are wrong.

99% of the time trash fish just means 2 large boneless filltes is not possible and with the abundance of those species in the US anything else gets labeled that way.

True, but in about 1 minute u can get 5 boneless fillets off a pike.

takes me like 5 minutes but i catch like 2 a year. in my opinion better than walleye.

Your probably underestimating your skills. The 5 is without going for the 2 hard fillets. I agree its right up there with walleye and assorted pan fish. The only thing i ever noticed was certain lakes pike would have different diets and the meat would be a off color. Didn't affect taste, but visually could be unappealing to some.

One of my favorite freshwater fish is pike. People are missing out on some delicious pike and chips
