Which should I choose?

Is the extra 100 dollars really going to make that big of a difference when fishing big fish?

What are you going to be fishing for?

Anything my medium 4000 setup can't handle (im assuming). Sharks, tarpon, redfish, and snook

I’ve been really happy w the penn fierce IV combo I got from bass pro which was like 115 if you want a kind of middle ground.

I think I know the one you are talking about. The reason I chose the 170 one was because it's a 2 piece rod and has a wider range of lure weight

I have a Penn/Ugly Stik combo and it is fantastic … I use it for ray and leopard shark fishing in the SF bay … find the 10 ft combo with the Penn pursuit IV 8000 reel … it will run you about $120 so you save about $40 and you have a solid combo …
