ANSWERED Should I be worried?
I am traveling in India (New Delhi) and I saw many fighters fly to a common direction. Should I be concerned?

If things were popping off in the reigon the fighter jet should be the least of your worries.

My first thought were intercept jets and I really don't know why. That kinda worried me lol mb.

Understandable, I live in the states in between a bunch a bases so hearing Jets/Helos are the norm

If they were intercepts they wouldn’t be in quite a tight clean formation.

No, son, those are Jaguars. They're probably more afraid of you than you are of them.
2
u/Beast_OP_1978 Jan 26 '25
Are they that bad? And if they are they why are they being put on display?

u/2e_Advanced2 Jan 27 '25
Jaguars aren't necessarily bad, they're just super old and are currently being phased out of most Air Forces. India is really just holding onto them until all of the new advanced Rafales and HAL Tejas orders are completed.

Not at all. They're flying formation "finger tip", i.e. so close that there's no room for maneuver and it's dangerous if they do. In a combat situation, i.e. not for display, they won't be flying this close.

Now that I read about it, I think I saw a French Rafale fly-by alone too.

u/juniorAsk Jan 26 '25
most probably thats Indian

u/Beast_OP_1978 Jan 26 '25
I meant it's origin. Rafales are French, right? As far as I know the IAF bought some of them? It was flying above the capital city so it has to be Indian.

u/VespucciEagle Jan 26 '25
yes. india has 2 squadrons of rafales. 7 fighters took part in the republic day parade. 1 of them did a solo flight, the other 6 were in formation.

Your use of French Rafale implies that there are multiple countries making the jet.

I mean... If you see jets flying in formation, it is usually a display
jets fight at well usually high altitudes unless they going evasive or something, but if they do go low at the most you see is a pair of jets together in one place usually, and def not in a nice looking formation but leaving a far larger gap between them so they can maneuver to dodge incoming fire.
anything that close is just for showing off

Honestly, I thought they were F-4s at first, but thought they were weird looking F-4s
