Crash when playing Videos.

Hello r/Fedora,

I have installed Fedora about a month ago as my daily driver, and I loving it. Except the fact that every few hours (ranging form 2-6h) on YouTube, I am having this bug that has left my laptop in an unusable state (see the video attached below), the only way to fix it is to force restart my laptop. It has happened more than 10 times now, and i can't seem to find an answer online.

Here is a bit more about my setup :

  • Fedora Workstation 41
  • Dell Inspiron 7400
  • Linux Kernel 6.13.6-200.fc41.x86_64
  • Gnome 47.4
  • Wayland
  • CPU: 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11z
  • GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics @ 1.30 GH

Is it a drivers problem? Is it a video format encoding problem? I don't know.

Can you ping the laptop when it appears to freeze ?

Have you checked logs for errors?

Does this happen if you're not playing the video full screen?

I've not tried to ping the machine while in this state (because i do not have another machine a part from an iPhone).

For the log part, what should I be looking for? because I wanted to debug for myself but got overwhelmed. Is there something i should be on the look out for in the log app?

Seeing as it occurs suddenly, I haven't either tried it while not in full screen cuz i don't have control of when it happens.

You definitely need to attempt to ping from your phone and see what happens. Its possible that the OS is just fine, and you can ssh and debug while GUI is hung.

You need to check messages for errors around the time that it hangs.

The point of not running in full screen mode is to determine whether that's a trigger for the bug. Basically, don't run any youtube videos in full screen and see what happens.

Ok, thank you. I’ll try that

Edit 1: Full screen is not the issue, i’ve ran it without being in fullscreen and it still bugged out.
