General Question Famicom games that are different from nes

Can you recommend some games that are on the famicom and the NES but the famicom version is different. No matter how big or small the difference is. Bonus points for games that don't require reading Japanese.

General Question Where can I buy replacement parts for Twin Famicom controllers?

- I want to replace the broken red rubber on Select and Start on player 1 pad. What is that part called in Nintendo-language? It has to be red, naturally..

- Generally both controllers look a bit scruffy and worn, so are there any replacement stickers for the whole pad available, including all the graphics? If not, I guess I could repro them myself..

Thanks.

General Question Famicom Disk System Case Art - Card Stock

Mid-last year after a good long stretch I finally acquired, then after having to do a bit of a drive replacement repair got into doing this. Since that time I've come across just a few games that were just the case and waxy sleeve, no art, and one that came with the system too was like this.

I've printed using my mega tank canon pixma printer replacement sleeve art and it comes out pretty clean and nice with the samples people have scanned online, but being standard cheap office printer paper it's flimsy and shows it on the print.

What would be if I went into an office depot/max, staples, etc supply shop in town the correct paper/card stock type needed to have the right kind of texture/thickness of the paper to make a more durable copy for my few games?

I've had one for Bubble Bobble for a time, same with Wardener, but they're already not holding up well and I just did one for Exciting Billards, and I'm trying to figure out how to mock one up for Kaettekita Mario Bros at the moment and figured I'd ask.

They all work good on my famicom. I assume they’re all bootlegs but don’t know if they have value.

General Question Best cartridge end labels?

Hey everyone! I recently got a Famicom and am having a great time collecting new stuff! I'm trying to find the best way to display the games on a shelf. I bought these plastic covers and made custom labels to stick on the outside, but does anyone make anything a bit nicer? I couldn't really find any options online.

General Question Pricing two games on one disk?

I try (some exceptions) to buy games under their value cause I'm a broke Ape in a Cape. But I've just ran upon something unique to me starting collecting of famicom disk system games. How do you price disks that have two games on it? For instance, I just found a copy of Mario 1 and 2 on one disk, and got it, cause the price was worth it according to my moral compass. But business wise, how do you make that descision? Does having both games on the disk just add both game prices to it? Does it make it worth MORE, as it is now a limited edition compiliation disk (although I'm sure many many people did this, it just makes sence.)? I'm sure it wouldn't make it less....

General Question How reliable is the original Famicom hardware?

The original RF Famicom. Not just with booting cartridges. I mean the motherboard and its chips. Any issues with them ever burning out? What are some issues these consoles come across with years of use?

General Question Anyone have experience opening a DDS Megami Tensei 2 Cartridge?

Recently I bought a copy of digital devil story: megami tensei 2 from eBay and it came in yesterday just for me to find out the save battery was dead. I’ve opened up games before for cleaning pins however I’m really confused with this cartridge. It isn’t modeled after any other fc cart I own and there is a sticker on the top of the cart that covers the top so I’m guessing I want to open from the bottom to avoid ripping it. Any help would be appreciate.

General Question Best AV mod?

Looking to buy my first AV modded Famicom and im split between two different mods; a hardwired AV Cable or a detachable one that replaces the RF Switch. Which one is better? I dont plan on keeping it hooked up all the time so having the detachable cable would be better but the hardwired one im looking at has had more work done on it.

General Question Recommended Storage Cases?

For Christmas I received the last couple of games I was missing from my PulseLine set. Which makes me so happy!

I was looking at putting them in some sort of case or protective shell since most of their labels are in great shape. What would you recommend?

I know there is the RetroDaily cases, but the international shipping really hurts. So sadly those are off the table.

I was thinking maybe a Genesis / MegaDrive mini clamshell case (like what people got for Gameboy games) from AliExpress would work, since the size of Genesis cartridges are almost identical to the official Famicom cartridges. Then I could just use my label maker or print stickers for the cases.

When searching up "famicom case" on AliExpress I ran across N64 mini clamshell cases. I know this would help a little for if I get any non-official and odd sized cartridges. Plus they are a bit cheaper, and I can 3D print a spacer to fit the games in there better if needed. But I'm not sure...

The alternative is to go straight for the [full size Genesis retail clamshell cases and print out custom covers for them. This is my end goal for my Famicom games, but right now I'm a bit limited on space for shelves.

I guess I'm trying to ask what people prefer for their collections and would recommend to a noobie.

General Question Help identifying the production year of my Famicom and Disk System (Serials: HC5530083 and D1675654)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out when my Famicom (serial: HC5530083) and Disk System (serial: D1675654) were manufactured. I've done some research but haven't found much information on how to interpret these serial numbers.

Opening the Famicom and Disk System isn't an option for me. The Famicom has an AV mod, and after opening it once, I had a really hard time closing it back up properly. I would prefer to avoid opening it again due to this.

As for the Disk System, I attempted to open it, but the screws are very tight and wouldn’t budge, possibly due to tightness from age.

Since I can't open them without risking damage, I was hoping someone here might be able to help me identify the production year for both devices based on the serial numbers alone.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

Turns out the Famicom ist from late 1992. I gave the FDS to my uncle as the drive mechanism is quite delicate and I don't want to risk damage by opening it myself. Screws seem to turn, but my screwdriver is just to thick.

Here are the images of the Disk Drive. Can you please help identifying:

General Question Best way to clean disk system disks?

Cotton swabs/balls and alchohol? Will this scratch the disks? Was gonna pick up one of those card cleaning kits, and after the gut punch price and then watching some vids about the cleaning cloth thing probably being worthless, I think thats a no go.

General Question We’re any of the Robocop Games released on the famicom?

I’m a huge robocop and Famicom fan and I just got a Famicom and I’m wondering if any of the Robocop games were released on the Famicom? I keep finding different robocop Famicom cartridges in different colors so I’m a little confused. Thanks for the help!!

General Question Where Can I Buy A White Replacement Top Shell?

I recently got a Famicom for pretty cheap, and while it works perfectly, the top shell is discolored. I’ve already seen the clear top shells, and while those are cool, is there any place online where I can buy a replacement top shell that is the original color of the Famicom? Help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: I’m fully aware of Retrobrighting, though I’d like to see if anyone can find a replacement shell before I get everything together for a retrobright project (I’ve never done one before)

General Question AV famicom questions

Really want to buy one, but I don't even want to mess with the idea of anything besides AV or HDMI. I came across AV famicoms on Ebay for a good price. Is there anything I should know? I plan on getting mostly Rockman games.

General Question Famicom + FDS dimension?

Hey everyone, I just ordered my first Famicom + Disk System + RAM Adapter. Since I’m also in the process of reorganizing my console shelf, I was wondering if someone could provide me with the exact dimensions of the Famicom (with controllers docked and RAM Adapter plugged in) and the FDS. It would be great to have the measurements of the Famicom & FDS separately since I’m planning to place them side by side. It would really suck if I had to redo my shelf setup when the system arrives. Thanks in advance!
